Love Projection

We think of love as a transaction. A commodity to be earned, to be won, to be deserved. We are constantly seeking it, chasing it, and mourning its absence. We have been conditioned to believe that love is something that comes to us from the outside. But this is a deep and tragic misunderstanding. Love is not a feeling that you get from another person. Love is the very fabric of your being. It is the fundamental nature of reality. The practice of “Love Projection” is not about sending your love to someone else. It is about waking up to the love that you already are, and then allowing that love to radiate, to overflow, to project, without condition, without agenda, and without exception.

The Heart of the Universe: A Vedantic Perspective

Advaita Vedanta teaches that the ultimate reality, Brahman, is described as *sat-chit-ananda*: existence, consciousness, and bliss. Ananda is not just happiness; it is the boundless, unconditional, and causeless joy of being. This bliss is not something that you have to achieve; it is what you are. The only reason you don’t experience this is because of the ego, the false sense of a separate self that is constantly seeking love and validation from the outside world.

The great sage Ramana Maharshi said, “Your own Self-realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”

To realize the Self is to realize that you are love. You are the source of the love you have been seeking. The practice of Love Projection, from this perspective, is not about manufacturing a feeling of love. It is about removing the obstacles to the love that is already there. It is about turning your attention away from the ego’s endless drama of lack and longing, and resting in the vast, silent, and ever-present love that is your true nature. When you do this, love naturally and effortlessly radiates from you, not as an action you are doing, but as a state of being you are embodying.

The Unobstructed Light: A Buddhist Perspective

In the Buddhist tradition, the practice of *Metta*, or loving-kindness, is a form of Love Projection. It is the practice of systematically cultivating a boundless and unconditional love for all beings. The practice begins with oneself, then extends to loved ones, to neutral people, to difficult people, and finally to all sentient beings without exception. The goal is not to force a feeling of love, but to create the mental and emotional conditions for love to arise naturally.

The Metta Sutta says, “Let none deceive another, or despise any being in any state. Let none through anger or ill-will wish harm upon another. Even as a mother protects with her life her child, her only child, so with a boundless heart should one cherish all living beings.”

Love Projection, in the Buddhist sense, is the recognition that our true nature is like a clear and radiant light. The clouds of greed, hatred, and delusion may temporarily obscure this light, but they can never extinguish it. The practice of Metta is the practice of clearing away the clouds. It is the practice of remembering the sun of our own true nature, and then allowing that sun to shine, to radiate, to project its warmth and its light in all directions.

A Real-Life Example: The Angry Man

I once worked with a man who was filled with anger. He was angry at his ex-wife, he was angry at his boss, he was angry at the world. His anger was a poison that was destroying his health, his relationships, and his peace of mind. He had tried everything to get rid of his anger, therapy, medication, anger management classes, but nothing had worked.

I introduced him to the practice of Love Projection. At first, he was resistant. “I can’t send love to these people,” he said. “They don’t deserve it.” I told him to forget about them for a while. I instructed him to simply sit every day and to visualize a warm, golden light in the center of his chest. I told him to breathe into that light, to feel its warmth, to allow it to fill his own body. He did this every day for a month. Slowly, something began to soften in him. The hard shell of his anger began to crack.

One day, in the middle of his practice, he had a spontaneous vision. He saw his ex-wife, not as the monster he had made her out to be, but as a wounded and suffering human being. He saw his boss, not as a tyrant, but as a man who was trapped in his own fear and insecurity. For the first time, he felt a flicker of compassion. Without forcing it, he allowed the golden light in his heart to extend to them. He didn’t have to forgive them. He didn’t have to like them. He just had to include them in the circle of his own light. That was the beginning of his healing. He realized that the love he was projecting was not for them; it was for him. It was the antidote to the poison of his own anger.

This card is an invitation to stop seeking love and to start being it. It is a call to remember that you are a sun, a radiant source of warmth, of light, and of unconditional love. Stop waiting for the world to love you. Start loving the world. The love you project is the love you become.

How to Embody This Teaching

This is a guided meditation on Love Projection, a way to awaken the radiant love that is your true nature.

1. **Find a comfortable, seated position.** Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. 2. **Bring your awareness to your heart center.** Imagine a small, warm, golden sun in the center of your chest. 3. **With each inhale, imagine you are breathing into that sun,** causing it to grow brighter, warmer, and more radiant. With each exhale, let go of any tension or darkness in your heart. 4. **Feel the warmth of this golden sun filling your entire body,** from the tips of your toes to the crown of your head. Feel every cell in your body being bathed in this loving and healing light. 5. **Now, begin to radiate this light outward.** Visualize the golden light extending beyond your body, filling the room you are in. Then, extend it further, to your entire neighborhood, your city, your country. 6. **Bring to mind someone you love.** See them in your mind’s eye and surround them with this beautiful golden light. Silently wish them well: “May you be happy. May you be well. May you be filled with love.” 7. **Now, bring to mind someone with whom you have a difficult relationship.** See if you can, without forcing it, extend this same golden light to them. Hold them in this field of unconditional love. 8. **Finally, let the light expand to encompass all living beings,** without exception. Rest in this state of boundless, radiant love for as long as you like.

When This Card Appears

When the Love Projection card appears, it is a sign that you are being called to a higher octave of love. You may have been caught in the transactional, conditional love of the ego. This card is an invitation to move into the unconditional, radiant love of the Self. It is a time to stop seeking love and to start being it. The love you have been looking for is not outside of you; it is within you, waiting to be awakened.

This card can also be a sign that a situation in your life is in need of a powerful dose of love. There may be a conflict, a misunderstanding, or a place of darkness that can only be healed by the light of unconditional love. The Love Projection card is a call to be that light. It is a reminder that you have the power to transform any situation, not by changing the other person, but by changing your own energy, by choosing to project love, no matter what.
