The Teaching

Here's the thing about love: we've got it backwards most of the time. We think love is something we feel, something we give or receive, something that comes and goes. But here's what I've learned in thirty years of working with thousands of souls: love isn't something you have. Love is what you are.

Look, I get it. When someone says "you are love," it can sound like spiritual fluff, right? But seriously, think about this for a moment. What is it that's aware of your thoughts right now? What is it that experiences joy, sadness, anger, fear? What is it that remains constant through every emotion, every relationship, every heartbreak and celebration? That awareness, that pure consciousness that you are... that's love itself.

The ancient Advaita Vedanta teachers knew this. They called it Sat-Chit-Ananda: existence-consciousness-bliss. But here's what's wild: they weren't describing three separate things. They were pointing to one reality with three faces. Love, truth, and bliss aren't different states you achieve. They're what you already are when you stop pretending to be something else.

Honestly, this shift in perspective changes everything. When you realize you don't need to generate love, you just need to stop blocking it... that's when the real magic happens. You're not a person trying to become more loving. You're love itself, temporarily forgetting your true nature.

But here's where it gets practical. The Buddhists have this beautiful practice called Metta meditation, loving-kindness. You start by sending love to yourself, then to loved ones, then to neutral people, then to difficult people, and finally to all beings everywhere. What's brilliant about this isn't that you're creating love. You're remembering that love is already flowing through you. You're just removing the obstructions.

Truth is, every time you judge someone, you're blocking love. Every time you criticize yourself, you're damming up the river. Every time you hold a grievance, you're forgetting who you really are. And every time you choose kindness, forgiveness, or compassion... you're not being good. You're being real.

The Taoists understood this too. They talked about wu wei, effortless action. When you're aligned with your true nature, love flows as naturally as water flows downhill. It doesn't require effort or strain. It's just what happens when you get out of your own way.

Think about the moments when you've felt most yourself. I bet they were moments when you were giving or receiving love without any agenda. Maybe you were helping a stranger, or laughing with a friend, or holding a child, or just sitting quietly in nature feeling connected to everything. In those moments, you weren't trying to be loving. You were just being.

Here's what's interesting: when you really get this, relationships become completely different. You're not looking for someone to complete you or make you feel loved. You're two expressions of love recognizing yourself in each other. You're not needy. You're overflowing.

And this extends to everything, you know? Your work becomes an expression of love. Your creativity becomes love in action. Even your challenges become opportunities to remember who you are. Because here's the secret: nothing can actually harm love. You might forget it temporarily, but you can't lose what you are.

Look, I've seen people transform their entire lives just by shifting from "How can I get more love?" to "How can I be the love I am?" It's like the difference between trying to capture sunlight in a jar versus realizing you are the sun.

Are you with me? This isn't about becoming something you're not. It's about removing everything you think you are that isn't love. And what remains... well, that's what the mystics have been pointing to all along.

How to Embody This Teaching

Here's how you embody this truth in your daily life. Start your morning by placing your hand on your heart and feeling the love that's already there. Not thinking about it, not trying to generate it. Just feeling what's present. That warmth, that aliveness... that's your true nature saying hello.

Throughout your day, practice what I call "love first." Before you respond to anyone, especially when you're triggered or upset, take a breath and ask: "How would love respond here?" Not love as weakness or enabling, but love as truth, as clarity, as strength. Sometimes love says no. Sometimes love walks away. Sometimes love holds firm boundaries. But it always comes from wholeness, not woundedness.

Try this simple practice: when you're interacting with difficult people, silently send them love. Not approval of their behavior, but recognition of the love they truly are beneath their pain or confusion. It's amazing how this shifts the entire dynamic. You're not trying to change them. You're just refusing to buy into the illusion that they're anything other than love temporarily in disguise.

And here's something powerful: practice loving yourself the way you'd love a dear friend. Notice how you talk to yourself internally. Would you speak to someone you cared about that way? Every time you catch yourself in self-criticism, pause and choose love instead. This isn't about being soft on yourself. It's about being real.

When This Card Appears

When Love appears in your reading, it's time to remember who you really are. This isn't about romantic relationships or emotional states. This is about returning to your fundamental nature. The universe is reminding you that you don't need to earn love, achieve love, or find love. You ARE love.

If you're struggling with relationships, this card suggests the issue isn't about the other person. It's about remembering your own wholeness. You can't give what you think you don't have, and you can't receive what you believe you don't deserve. But when you know yourself as love, everything changes.

If you're facing challenges or conflicts, Love is asking you to respond from your highest self. How would pure love handle this situation? Not love as doormat, but love as wisdom, as courage, as truth. Sometimes the most loving thing is to walk away. Sometimes it's to stand firm. Sometimes it's to forgive. Let your inner knowing guide you.

This card often appears when you're being called to love more unconditionally, starting with yourself. You might be holding grievances, judging yourself harshly, or withholding forgiveness. Love is inviting you to let all of that go. Not because you should, but because that's who you really are when you stop pretending otherwise.
