When purpose and consequence dance together in perfect harmony
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
""I trust the wisdom of my authentic path and welcome the feedback of my experience.""
Here's the thing about dharma and karma... most people think they're separate forces, but honestly? They're like dance partners who've been waltzing together since the beginning of time. Dharma is your soul's calling, your authentic purpose. Karma is the feedback loop, the universe's way of showing you how aligned you are with that calling. Know what I mean?
I've been watching this dance for thirty years, and here's what I've learned: when you're living your dharma, your karma becomes your teacher instead of your tormentor. Think about that. When you're doing what you came here to do, even the challenging stuff that shows up is helping you refine your path, not punish you for being off it.
Look, dharma isn't some grand cosmic mission you need to figure out through meditation retreats and ayahuasca journeys. Sometimes, sure. But mostly? It's way simpler than that. It's the thing that makes you feel most like yourself. The work that doesn't feel like work. The way you naturally want to help people. The art that pours out of you. The conversations that light you up. Seriously.
But here's what's interesting... dharma isn't static. It evolves as you do. I started as a healer working with crystals and energy, and that was absolutely my dharma at the time. But as I grew, my dharma expanded to include clairvoyant reading, then teaching, then writing oracle cards. Each phase built on the last, but they weren't the same. Are you with me?
Karma, meanwhile, is just cause and effect wearing a spiritual costume. You put authentic energy into the world, you get authentic responses back. You hide behind masks and people-pleasing, you get relationships that feel hollow. You follow someone else's definition of success, you get achievements that taste like cardboard. Wild, right?
Truth is, most of us have been taught to fear karma, like it's some cosmic debt collector waiting to bash us over the head for past mistakes. But that's not how it works. Karma is neutral. It's information. It's showing you what's working and what isn't. When you're aligned with your dharma, your karma becomes this beautiful feedback system that keeps you on track.
I remember this client who was miserable in her corporate job but terrified to leave because, you know, security and all that. She kept getting passed over for promotions, having conflicts with bosses, feeling exhausted all the time. That wasn't the universe punishing her... that was karma saying 'Hey, you're not where you belong.' When she finally had the courage to start her art therapy practice, everything shifted. Same person, completely different karmic experience.
The beautiful thing is, you don't have to have it all figured out to start. You just need to take the next authentic step. Dharma reveals itself through action, not analysis. And karma... well, karma adjusts in real time based on how true you're being to yourself.
Here's something most spiritual teachers won't tell you: living your dharma isn't always blissful. Sometimes it's scary as hell. Sometimes it means disappointing people. Sometimes it means choosing the uncertain path over the safe one. But here's the difference... when you're in dharma, even the difficult stuff feels meaningful. Even the challenges feel like they're serving something bigger.
And when your dharma and karma are aligned? That's when magic happens. That's when doors open that you didn't even know existed. When the right people show up at the right time. When resources appear from nowhere. When everything feels like it's flowing instead of forcing.
Honestly, this is the whole spiritual game right here. Not transcending your humanity, but expressing it so authentically that the universe can't help but support you. Not escaping karma, but dancing with it so skillfully that it becomes your greatest ally in living the life you actually came here to live.
Right, so how do you actually work with this dharma-karma dance? Here's what I've found works...
Start by paying attention to your energy levels throughout the day. Seriously. When do you feel most alive? What activities make you lose track of time? What conversations energize you instead of draining you? Your dharma lives in those moments of natural enthusiasm.
Next, look at your karma patterns. What keeps showing up in your life? What lessons keep repeating? What types of people or situations do you keep attracting? Don't judge it, just notice it. Your karma is trying to tell you something about where you're aligned and where you're not.
Then there's this practice I call 'the authenticity check.' Before making any decision, big or small, pause and ask: 'Is this choice coming from my truth or my conditioning?' Feel the difference in your body. Truth usually feels expansive, even if it's scary. Conditioning feels tight, even if it seems safe.
Here's the thing though... you've got to be willing to act on what you discover. Dharma without action is just spiritual fantasy. Start small if you need to. Take one class that excites you. Have one honest conversation. Make one choice that honors who you're becoming instead of who you've been.
And when karma gives you feedback... because it will... practice seeing it as course correction instead of cosmic punishment. Got rejected? Maybe you're being redirected toward something better aligned. Relationship ended? Maybe you're being freed to attract someone who actually sees you. Lost a job? Maybe you're being pushed toward work that actually matters to you.
The practice is staying curious instead of defensive. Staying open instead of resistant. Trusting that when you're committed to your authentic path, everything that shows up is somehow serving that path, even when you can't see how yet.
When this card shows up, you're being called to examine the relationship between your life purpose and the consequences you're experiencing. Look, this isn't about judgment... it's about alignment.
If you're feeling stuck or frustrated, this card is asking: are you living according to your authentic nature, or trying to force yourself into someone else's version of success? Your current karma is giving you information about how aligned you are with your true path.
This card often appears when you're at a crossroads, being asked to choose between what looks safe and what feels true. It's reminding you that living authentically might feel risky in the short term, but it's the only path that leads to genuine fulfillment.
Sometimes this card shows up when you're experiencing difficult karma and need the reminder that this too is serving your evolution. You're not being punished... you're being refined. The challenges are helping you get clearer about who you really are and what you're really here to do.
If you've been feeling disconnected from your purpose, this card is a gentle nudge to start paying attention to what naturally energizes you. Your dharma is already there, waiting to be noticed and honored.
Most more to the point, this card is telling you that it's time to trust the process. When you align with your authentic path, the universe conspires to support you. Not in some magical thinking way, but because authenticity creates coherence, and coherence attracts the right opportunities, people, and experiences.
What activities or conversations make me feel most alive and authentic?
What patterns keep showing up in my life, and what might they be trying to teach me?
Where am I choosing safety over authenticity, and what would change if I reversed that?
