Conjure

“Call forth your soul’s fire, no smoke, all flame.”

By Paul Wagner

Affirmation

"Conjure Today, I own my wild magic, the fierce power to shape my world with raw intention and honest action. No fluff, no spiritual bypass. I am the storm and the calm, the mystery and the clear eye. I call forth what serves my truth and courageously release what no longer feeds my soul. The universe doesn’t wait for perfection, and neither will I. I am the conjurer of my life’s fierce, tender reality."

The Teaching

Conjure

Conjure. The word itself catches your attention, doesn’t it? Like some old alchemist’s spell, the way it rolls off the tongue carries the promise of transformation, magic, power, raw, immediate, and true. But let’s be clear: this card is not suggesting you slap on rose quartz, whisper sweet affirmations, and expect the universe to hand you your desires on a silver platter. Conjure is about grounded, gritty, intentional creation. Not wishful thinking dressed up as spiritual ambition. This is where spirit meets real-world muscle and sweat.

Conjuring is action. It’s the art of bringing something into existence that wasn’t there before, not by random chance, not by passive hope, but by focused energy and conscious presence. We’ve all conflated spiritual practice with metaphysical wish fulfillment, and that’s a trap. The Tao Te Ching reminds us that “The Tao never acts yet nothing is left undone” (Chapter 37). This is not laziness disguised as wisdom; this is deep mastery of action and non-action. Conjuring is walking that razor’s edge.

Think of the Tao here as the ultimate conjurer. It neither forces nor delays; it simply flows and by doing so, brings everything to life. To conjure is to align your will, emotions, and actions with that downward and upward current of life’s ebb and flow, so creation itself bursts forth through you like a thunderbolt.

“In the midst of chaos, a thousand new forms take shape.”

If you read the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna’s teachings to Arjuna emphasize this exact kind of engagement. Conjure is about karma yoga, the yoga of selfless action. You don’t conjure by withdrawing into spiritualized detachment or intellectualizing your desires. You conjure by working fiercely in the world, anchored in your dharma, throwing yourself fully into your role without attachment to outcome.

Imagine a scenario: a young artist struggling to find her voice and audience. She’s frustrated, full of self-doubt, surrounded by the noise of what “success” is supposed to look like. She’s tempted to wait for inspiration to magically drop into her lap, like a lightning strike. But doing so is spiritual bypass, avoiding the grit and grind that true conjuring demands. Instead, she wakes every morning and commits to her craft. She studies form, creates relentlessly, connects with community, promotes without shame. This isn’t “waiting for the muse.” This is conjuring, calling into being her own destiny through focused, persistent effort and presence.

Advaita Vedanta teaches us about the nonduality of self and world, that there is no separate creator and creation. When you conjure, you acknowledge that you are not merely a passive observer in this theatre of existence but a co-creator with the infinite. The world doesn’t owe you reality; you must meet it halfway with your full humanness and courage. The teacher Nisargadatta Maharaj would say: “The question ‘Who am I?’ is the seed of wisdom. Look into your being and know the urge to conjure vibrates there.”

Conjuring is also fierce. It’s not soft or polite. It’s sometimes brutal to summon what needs to emerge, to uproot old habits, to break through inertia and fear. This card challenges your complacency. No more spiritual small talk or safe dreams. Conjure demands raw reckoning with your shadows as much as your light. It means calling forth your authenticity, even if it scares the hell out of everyone around you, including you.

Here’s the reality: you don’t conjure alone. Energy moves in relationship, with your attention, your voices (inner and outer), and with the unseen currents of cosmic intelligence. As the Buddha pointed out, dependent origination means all phenomena arise because of causes and conditions. Conjure by nurturing the conditions, your body, mind, heart, community. Let go of isolation as a spiritual posture and be fierce about your interconnection.

“Just as fire is not separate from the fuel that feeds it, your power to conjure is inseparable from the system of your being and environment.”

One powerful example: Amma, my beloved teacher, is a living embodiment of conjuring life. She has spent decades drawing love and service out of people who thought they had none to give. Her embrace is not just a hug; it’s an invocation. She conjures compassion, peace, and radical presence in a world desperate for both. It’s not magic, it’s relentless, no-nonsense presence backed by fierce commitment to truth.

So, when this card appears, know this is a call to rise up, stop waiting for magic, and instead become the conjurer of your moment. Look at your life and see what’s simmering beneath the surface waiting for your focused attention and raw will to bring it to life. It might be a project, a relationship, a habit, a boundary, or an inner state. Whatever it is, meet it, not with intellectualizing or vague intentions but with anchored, deliberate action.

And remember, conjuring includes the paradox of surrender. You generate the flames, but you don’t control the wind. This is not about grasping or forcing; it’s about willing and allowing. As Taoist thought reminds us again and again: when you try to force a thing, you break it, but when you move with life’s ebb, you create without effort. Conjure that dance: act fiercely and surrender wisely.

So no more hiding behind spiritual platitudes or empty promises. Conjure means power, your power, direct and unfiltered. Respect it, wield it, and transform the world by standing fully in that primal creative fire.

How to Embody This Teaching

Conjure

Listen up. Conjuring isn’t some airy fairy magic trick to distract you from the mess you’re in. It’s raw power, the ability to call forth what’s buried deep, tangled in the gut-churning chaos of your life. It’s not about wishful thinking or polished Instagram manifestos. It’s about grabbing the world by the throat and pulling what you need into the light.

Here’s your practice. Find a place where you won’t be assaulted by noise and bullshit, yes, that includes your phone. Sit down, breathe simple: in through the nose, out through the mouth. No need to hijack the breath with fantasies of enlightenment. Just breathe to remind yourself you’re still here, you’re still alive.

Now, with eyes closed, start naming something you want to bring forth, not some mystical “abundance” nonsense, but something real, something that will shove your life forward. It might be courage to say what’s true, the grit to face that nagging fear, or the strength to end what’s killing your spirit.

Say it aloud or whisper it to the empty air. Feel the tension in your chest when you say it. That resistance? That’s your own power, cracked open. Feed it your full attention, no running. Hold space for the fierce tenderness of wanting and needing, the messy in-between of surrender and fight.

Now, open your eyes. No fireworks, no immediate signs. But you have conjured. You have claimed the first breath of that thing into your world. Walk forward with that sharp edge of intention, raw and real. Magic isn’t a fairy tale, it’s your refusal to sit quiet while life howls.

When This Card Appears

Ah, Conjure shows up when life demands you stop waiting for a miracle and start birthing one yourself. This card is a fierce reminder: you are not a passive actor in your story, you are the wild, creative force at the center of the storm. The universe doesn’t just hand out blessings like candy; it responds to your intention, sweat, and unapologetic boldness. So no more sitting on the sidelines hoping “something will come through.” It’s time to stir the deep, dark cauldron of your soul, mix in the raw materials of your desire and resources, and manifest the hell out of what calls you forward.

Conjure challenges your spiritual fluff, no airy-fairy illusions here, just gritty, grounded magic that takes courage. It’s about crafting reality with fierce love and relentless action. This card invites you to trust your intuitive wisdom, use your unique power, and stop underestimating what you can create when you commit fully.

When Conjure appears, the message is clear: get off your ass, focus your fire, and bring your dream into flesh, it’s time to make magic happen.
