Your truth needs no permission from anyone else
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
"I validate my own truth and trust my inner wisdom completely"
Here's the thing about validation: we spend so much energy seeking it from everyone except the one person who actually matters. You. I've sat with thousands of people over the years, and honestly? The most suffering I witness comes from this endless chase for approval from others.
Look, I get it. We're wired for connection, for belonging. But somewhere along the way, we got confused. We started thinking that belonging meant becoming what others wanted us to be. That love meant earning it through performance. That our truth was only valid if someone else stamped their approval on it. Wild, right?
Truth is, when you're constantly looking outside yourself for validation, you're basically saying that everyone else knows you better than you know yourself. Think about that. You're giving strangers, friends, family, even enemies, more authority over your life than your own soul. Are you with me?
I remember years ago, I had this moment where I realized I was performing my spirituality. Seriously. I was teaching and healing, but I was doing it in ways that would get me the most nods, the most 'wow, Paul's so wise' comments. And you know what happened? My work became hollow. Empty. Because when you're performing for validation, you disconnect from your authentic power.
The Tao teaches us that the sage doesn't seek approval because they know their worth isn't up for debate. They're not arrogant about it, they're just clear. Like a mountain doesn't need validation to be a mountain, know what I mean? It just is what it is, fully and completely.
But here's what's interesting: when you stop seeking external validation, something magical happens. You start trusting your inner knowing. That quiet voice that's been trying to guide you all along? It gets louder. Clearer. More confident.
Honestly, I think we confuse validation with connection. We think if people agree with us, approve of us, then we're connected. But real connection happens when you show up authentically, even if it's messy, even if it's not what others expect. Because authenticity is magnetic in a way that performance never is.
The thing about seeking validation is it's like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in the bottom. You can pour all the approval in the world into it, but it'll never stay full. Because external validation is temporary. It's based on conditions. But your inherent worth? That's permanent. Unconditional. Already complete.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying feedback isn't valuable or that we should ignore everyone else. But there's a difference between considering input and needing approval to exist. One comes from strength, the other from fear.
When you validate yourself, you give others permission to do the same. You model what it looks like to trust your inner authority. And paradoxically, that's when you often receive the most genuine appreciation from others. Not because you're performing for it, but because you're being real.
Right? It's like that old saying: what other people think of you is none of your business. Because their opinions are more about their filters, their fears, their conditioning than about who you actually are. You can't control their perceptions anyway, so why exhaust yourself trying?
The validation you're seeking from others? You already have it. It's been there all along, waiting for you to remember. Your soul doesn't need a committee to approve its existence. Your truth doesn't need a vote to be valid. Your worth isn't conditional on anyone's opinion.
Here's how to practice self-validation in real time. When you catch yourself seeking approval, pause. Just stop. Take a breath and ask yourself: 'What do I actually think about this?' Not what you should think, not what would make others happy, but what you genuinely think and feel.
Start small. Pick one area where you've been performing for others. Maybe it's how you dress, what you post online, even how you laugh. For one week, choose authenticity over approval in that area. Notice what comes up. Fear? Relief? Both? That's normal.
Practice the phrase: 'I don't need your permission to be myself.' Say it when you catch yourself editing yourself for others. Say it when you're about to ask for approval you don't actually need. It's not aggressive, it's just clear.
Try this validation meditation: Sit quietly and place your hand on your heart. Say to yourself: 'I approve of who I am right now. I trust my inner wisdom. I validate my own experience.' Feel the truth of these words in your body. Let them settle in deeper than your mind, into your bones.
And here's something practical: make one decision today without seeking anyone else's input. Something small but meaningful to you. Could be what to eat, what to watch, how to spend your evening. Just decide from your own center and notice how that feels. Liberation, right?
When Validation appears, it's time to stop outsourcing your self-worth. You've been looking everywhere except the one place that actually has the answers: within. This card is saying you already have everything you need to approve of yourself.
Maybe you're in a situation where you're seeking permission you don't need. Or you're waiting for someone else to tell you you're good enough, smart enough, worthy enough. Truth is, their opinion isn't what makes you whole. You were born whole.
This card often shows up when you're on the verge of trusting yourself more deeply. It's encouraging you to validate your own feelings, your own knowing, your own path. Stop performing for the approval of others and start honoring the wisdom that's been guiding you all along.
If you're in relationships where you feel constantly judged or criticized, this card reminds you that you don't have to earn love through perfection. You can be yourself, fully and completely, and trust that the right people will appreciate your authenticity.
The timing is perfect for this message. Your soul is ready to step into its own authority. Ready to trust that inner voice that knows what's true for you. Ready to stop asking permission to be yourself.
