The gentle art of letting energy pass through you

The Teaching

Here's the thing about deflection: most people think it means building walls or pushing things away. But that's resistance, not deflection. True deflection? It's like water flowing around a rock. The rock doesn't fight the water. It just stands there, and the water naturally flows around it. Know what I mean?

I've been doing this work for three decades, and I can tell you that the people who suffer most are the ones who think they have to take on every bit of energy that comes their way. They're like spiritual sponges, soaking up everyone else's drama, emotions, and chaos. Then they wonder why they feel exhausted all the time. Sound familiar?

Look, you're not responsible for absorbing other people's stuff. You're not a dumping ground for their anger, their fear, their negativity. But here's what's interesting: deflection isn't about becoming cold or disconnected. It's about developing spiritual discernment. It's about learning to say, 'That's yours, not mine.'

Think about a mirror for a second. When light hits a mirror, it doesn't absorb the light. It reflects it back. The mirror stays clean, stays clear. That's deflection. You can acknowledge what's coming at you without taking it into your energy field. You can witness someone's pain without making it your pain. You can be compassionate without being a collector.

Truth is, deflection is actually an act of love. When you deflect negative energy instead of absorbing it, you're not only protecting yourself, you're also not feeding the cycle. You're not adding your own reaction to the mix. You're staying clear so you can respond from a place of wisdom rather than react from a place of overwhelm.

I've seen so many people who think being spiritual means being a doormat. They think if they're truly evolved, they should be able to handle anything anyone throws at them. Honestly? That's spiritual bypassing. That's ego disguised as enlightenment. The most enlightened response sometimes is simply stepping aside.

Here's what I've learned: your energy is sacred. It's your life force. And just like you wouldn't let someone randomly take money from your wallet, you don't have to let them randomly dump their emotional baggage into your energy field. You have permission to deflect. You have permission to protect your peace.

But deflection isn't just about other people's energy. Sometimes the hardest energy to deflect is your own. Your own negative thoughts. Your own harsh self-judgment. Your own patterns of worry and fear. Learning to deflect these internal energies is just as important as deflecting external ones.

When a negative thought comes up, you don't have to wrestle with it. You don't have to analyze it to death or figure out where it came from. You can just let it pass through. Like a cloud moving across the sky. You notice it, acknowledge it, and then let it go. The sky doesn't grab onto the clouds. Neither should you.

This is where the practice gets really interesting. Deflection becomes a form of meditation. A way of staying present without getting caught in the drama. A way of maintaining your center no matter what's swirling around you. Are you with me?

The beautiful thing about mastering deflection is that it creates space. Space for your own authentic responses. Space for genuine connection. Space for the energy you actually want to cultivate. When you're not constantly processing everyone else's stuff, you have room for your own wisdom to emerge.

How to Embody This Teaching

Start with your breathing. Seriously. When you feel energy coming at you that doesn't belong to you, take three deep breaths and imagine a gentle force field around your body. Not a wall, but something permeable that only lets in what serves you.

Try the mirror visualization I mentioned. When someone's anger or negativity comes your way, imagine you're a mirror. Their energy hits you and bounces right back to them. You're not being mean. You're just not absorbing what isn't yours. Practice this during conversations, in crowded places, even when reading intense news or social media.

Here's a simple daily practice: before you interact with people who tend to drain you, set an intention. Say to yourself, 'I acknowledge whatever comes my way, but I only take in what serves my highest good.' Then imagine yourself surrounded by light that deflects anything that isn't love or truth.

Pay attention to your energy levels throughout the day. When do you feel depleted? Who or what situations tend to hook you? Once you notice the patterns, you can start practicing deflection in those specific moments. It gets easier with practice, trust me.

And remember: deflection is gentle. It's not about becoming hard or closed off. It's about staying open to love while being wise about what you allow into your energy field. Think of yourself as a skilled gardener who knows which seeds to plant and which ones to let blow away on the wind.

When This Card Appears

When Deflect appears in your reading, it's time to examine your energetic boundaries. Are you absorbing things that aren't yours to carry? Are you taking on other people's emotions, problems, or negative energy as if they're your responsibility?

This card is often a gentle reminder that you have permission to protect your peace. You don't have to be a sponge for everyone else's stuff. You can be compassionate without being a collector of chaos. You can care without carrying.

Look at the areas of your life where you feel drained or overwhelmed. Often, it's because you're absorbing energy instead of deflecting it. This card suggests it's time to practice the art of letting things flow through you rather than into you.

Deflect can also indicate that you're being too hard on yourself. Maybe you're absorbing your own negative thoughts and giving them more power than they deserve. The card reminds you that you can observe your thoughts without becoming them. You can witness your emotions without being consumed by them.

This is ultimately about sovereignty. About claiming your right to choose what energy you engage with and what energy you let pass by. It's about remembering that being spiritual doesn't mean being defenseless. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is simply step aside.
