When comparison steals your peace, return to your true nature
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
""I am already whole, and others' success illuminates my own abundance.""
Here's the thing about envy... it's actually one of our most helpful teachers, even though it feels like absolute poison in the moment. Know what I mean? I've watched this emotion play out in thousands of sessions, and honestly, the people who think they're above envy are usually the ones drowning in it the deepest.
Envy is comparison on steroids. It's not just noticing that someone has something you want. It's that burning feeling that they don't deserve it, that the universe made a mistake, that somehow their good fortune diminishes yours. Wild, right? We're literally torturing ourselves over an illusion.
But here's what's interesting... envy is actually pointing you home. Think about that. Every single time you feel envious, you're being shown exactly where you've disconnected from your true nature. The Tao Te Ching says something beautiful about this: "Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are." Not because everything is perfect, but because your peace doesn't depend on having more than anyone else.
Look, I get it. I used to be eaten alive by envy. Other healers with more clients, friends with bigger houses, people who seemed to have it all figured out while I was still struggling. Seriously. The comparison game was killing me softly.
Then I realized something that changed everything. Envy isn't really about what they have. It's about what I think I lack. And here's the kicker... what I think I lack isn't even real. It's just a story I'm telling myself about not being enough as I am right now.
Advaita Vedanta teaches us that we are already whole, already complete. There's nothing to attain, nothing to achieve, nothing to become. You are already that which you seek. Are you with me? When you really get this, envy becomes impossible. How can you be envious when you understand that there's no separation between you and what you think you want?
Truth is, the person you're envying is just another wave in the same ocean. Their success, their happiness, their abundance... it's all part of the same unified field that you are. When they win, the universe wins. When they thrive, existence itself is thriving. And you're not separate from that.
But here's what really blew my mind. Every time I felt envious, if I got really honest about it, I wasn't actually wanting what they had. I was wanting the feeling I imagined having it would give me. Security, recognition, love, peace. And those feelings? They're available right now, exactly as you are. No external changes required.
The ego loves envy because it keeps you focused on the external world, keeps you believing that your happiness depends on circumstances. It's the ego's way of staying in control. But your true nature doesn't compete, doesn't compare, doesn't need to be better than anyone else to be complete.
Right? When you're connected to who you really are, you naturally celebrate others' success because you recognize it as your own. There's no scarcity in consciousness, no limited supply of joy or abundance. Someone else's light doesn't dim yours. It illuminates it.
When envy arises, don't fight it. That just gives it more power. Instead, get curious about it. Ask yourself: what am I really wanting here? Security? Recognition? Love? Then ask: how can I give that to myself right now?
Try this simple practice. When you catch yourself comparing or feeling envious, place your hand on your heart and say: "I am already whole. Their joy is my joy. Their success is my success." Feel the truth of that in your body. Are you with me?
Also, practice gratitude for what is. Not as a spiritual bypass, but as a genuine recognition of the abundance that's already here. Look around right now and notice three things you're grateful for. Really feel that appreciation. It's impossible to be envious and grateful at the same time.
Most more to the point, whenever envy comes up, use it as a reminder to come back to presence. The ego compares, but presence simply is. In this moment, right now, you lack nothing. You are complete exactly as you are.
When this card appears, it's time to examine where comparison is stealing your peace. You're being invited to look honestly at any envy or jealousy that's been festering below the surface. This isn't about judgment... it's about liberation.
The universe is asking you to remember who you really are. You're not in competition with anyone because there's no separation between you and others. Their success is your success, their joy is your joy. When you really get this, envy transforms into celebration.
This card is also highlighting where you might be looking outside yourself for validation or completion. Truth is, everything you think you want from others' lives is already available within you right now. You're being called back to your inherent wholeness.
If this card feels challenging, that's perfect. It means you're ready to release the comparison game and step into your authentic power. The very fact that this card appeared shows you're prepared to heal this pattern once and for all.
