When we think of miracles, we usually think of supernatural events, like the parting of the Red Sea or walking on water. We think of something outside of ourselves, something that defies the laws of nature. But what if a miracle is something much more simple, and much more deep? What if a miracle is simply a shift in perception?

A Course in Miracles

A Course in Miracles is a spiritual text that redefines the concept of a miracle. It teaches that a miracle is a shift in perception from fear to love. It’s not about changing the world, it’s about changing your mind about the world. It’s about choosing to see with the eyes of love instead of the eyes of fear.

The Course says, “A miracle is a correction. It does not create, nor really change at all. It merely looks on devastation, and reminds the mind that what it sees is false.” In other words, a miracle is a moment of remembering the truth. It’s a moment of waking up from the dream of separation and remembering our oneness with God, with love, with all of life.

Miracles and Advaita Vedanta

This understanding of miracles is very similar to the teachings of Advaita Vedanta. Advaita teaches that the world as we see it is an illusion, or maya. It’s not that the world doesn’t exist, but that we are not seeing it as it truly is. We are seeing it through the filter of our minds, our egos, our conditioning. We are seeing a world of separation, of duality, of good and bad, right and wrong.

The goal of Advaita is to see through this illusion, to realize our true nature as Brahman, the one, undivided Consciousness. This realization is the ultimate miracle. It’s the shift from seeing ourselves as a limited, separate self to seeing ourselves as the limitless, eternal Self.

A Real-Life Example: The Forgiveness Miracle

Let’s say you have been holding a grudge against someone for years. They hurt you deeply, and you have not been able to let it go. You think about them all the time. You replay the story of what they did to you over and over again in your mind. You are trapped in a prison of your own making.

Then one day, you have a shift. You realize that your unforgiveness is not hurting them, it’s hurting you. You realize that by holding onto this grudge, you are keeping yourself stuck in the past. You make a conscious choice to forgive them. You don’t do it for them, you do it for you. You do it to set yourself free.

In that moment of forgiveness, a miracle occurs. The world doesn’t change. The person who hurt you doesn’t change. But you change. You shift from fear to love. You shift from separation to oneness. You shift from being a victim to being a creator. This is a miracle. And it is available to you in every moment.

How to Embody This Teaching

Embodying the teaching of miracles is about cultivating a willingness to see things differently. Here are some practices to help you invite more miracles into your life:

• The Miracle Prayer: The Course in Miracles offers a simple prayer that you can use anytime you are feeling stuck in fear: “I am willing to see this differently.” Say it to yourself throughout the day. Say it when you are feeling angry, or sad, or afraid. It is a powerful way to open yourself up to a new perception.
• Forgiveness Practice: Make a list of all the people you are holding a grudge against, including yourself. One by one, go through the list and say, “I am willing to forgive you.” You don’t have to feel it. You just have to be willing. The willingness is the miracle.
• See the Love: Make a conscious effort to see the love that is hidden behind every appearance of fear. When you see someone acting out in anger, see the fear that is driving them. When you see someone who is suffering, see the love that is there, waiting to be expressed.

When This Card Appears

When the Miracles card appears in a reading, it is a sign that you are ready for a shift in perception. It is a sign that you are ready to let go of fear and to choose love. This card is asking you to be open to a new way of seeing things. It is an invitation to forgive, to let go of the past, and to step into a new reality. A miracle is waiting for you.
