There is a knowing that is deeper than thought.
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
"I trust the wisdom that lives in my bones and speaks through my heart"
Here's the thing about knowing... there's the kind you get from books, from teachers, from experience. And then there's the kind that just IS. You know what I mean? That deep, unshakeable knowing that doesn't need explanation or proof. It's like... you just KNOW.
I've sat with thousands of people over the years, and honestly? The most powerful moments happen when someone stops trying to figure it out and starts trusting what they already know. It's wild how we'll trust Google before we trust our own inner guidance. But here's what's interesting... that knowing has been there all along.
In the Advaita tradition, they call this direct knowing 'gnosis.' Not knowledge about something, but knowing AS something. When Krishna speaks to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita, he's not giving him information. He's pointing him back to what Arjuna already knows in his deepest being. That recognition of who we really are.
Look, your mind is brilliant. I'm not dissing the mind here. But the mind deals in concepts, comparisons, analysis. It's like having the most sophisticated GPS system... but sometimes you need to feel your way home, right? Sometimes the heart knows shortcuts the mind has never mapped.
Truth is, we've been trained to doubt this inner knowing. Society says 'prove it,' 'where's your evidence,' 'that's not logical.' But seriously... how do you prove love? How do you evidence beauty? How do you logic your way into the feeling of rightness when you're on your true path?
I remember this client, brilliant woman, PhD in psychology. She came to me completely stuck about a major life decision. We talked for an hour about pros and cons, logical frameworks, risk analysis. Finally I said, 'What does your gut tell you?' She was quiet for a long moment. Then tears started flowing. 'I already know,' she whispered. 'I've known all along.' Think about that.
This knowing isn't separate from you. It's not something you have to achieve or download from somewhere else. In meditation, when the mind finally gets quiet, what remains? That spacious awareness that's been watching all your thoughts, all your doubts, all your seeking. That's the knower. That's what you are.
But here's what trips people up... they think this knowing should be loud, dramatic, obvious. Sometimes it is. But mostly? It's subtle. A gentle nudge. A quiet sense of rightness. A door that opens when you stop pushing. Are you with me?
The beautiful thing about this kind of knowing is that it's always available. Right now. In this moment. You don't need to meditate for twenty years or study ancient texts (though those things are beautiful too). You just need to get quiet enough to hear what's already singing in your bones.
And honestly? Life keeps giving us opportunities to practice trusting this knowing. Every choice point is an invitation. Do I take this job? Move to this city? Trust this person? Your thinking mind will make lists. Your knowing will give you a feeling. Both have their place, but knowing... knowing cuts through all the noise.
Here's how to tune into that deep knowing that's always been there. First thing... get quiet. I mean really quiet. Find a space where you won't be interrupted. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and just breathe. Let your mind do its thing for a few minutes. Don't fight the thoughts. Just notice them and let them pass.
Now, bring to mind something you're seeking clarity about. Nothing huge to start with. Maybe what to have for dinner or which friend to call. Hold that question gently in your awareness. Don't think about it. Just hold it like you're holding a sleeping bird.
Drop your attention down from your head into your heart space. Some people feel this in their chest, others in their belly. Where do YOU sense your center? Rest your awareness there. Now, from this place of centered calm, ask your question again. But this time, you're not looking for an answer... you're feeling for a response.
Notice what happens in your body. Does one option feel expansive? Contracted? Light? Heavy? There's your knowing speaking. It's not dramatic. It's not mystical. It's just... clear. Right? Trust that first gentle response before your mind jumps in with all its 'but what ifs.'
Practice this with small things first. Which route to take home. Which book to read. What your body needs today. Build trust with your inner knowing on the little stuff, and it'll be there for you when the big decisions come. Because honestly? The same wisdom that knows if you need water or rest also knows if that relationship serves you or if it's time for a career change.
When Knowing shows up in your reading, it's time to stop seeking answers outside yourself. Seriously. You already know. Maybe not in your thinking mind, but in that deeper place that doesn't need proof or permission. This card is your reminder that the wisdom you're looking for isn't hiding... it's been patiently waiting for you to get quiet enough to hear it.
Look, if you're feeling confused or stuck right now, it's probably because you're overthinking something that your heart already understands. This isn't about having all the information or making the 'perfect' choice. It's about trusting that inner compass that always points toward your truth.
Maybe you've been asking everyone else what they think you should do. Maybe you've been researching and analyzing until your head hurts. Knowing says... pause. Breathe. Drop into that still place inside and listen. The answer isn't out there. It's in there.
This card also suggests that you're being guided by something larger than your personal will. Call it intuition, call it Spirit, call it your Higher Self. Whatever name feels right, there's a wisdom moving through you that knows exactly where you're headed and what you need. Trust it. You don't have to understand it. You just have to follow it.
What do I already know that I'm pretending I don't know?
When have I trusted my inner knowing and it led me exactly where I needed to go?
What would I choose if I knew I couldn't make a wrong decision?
