When you strip away the masks, what remains is radiant truth
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
""I trust my authentic self and allow my true nature to shine without apology.""
Here's the thing about authenticity. We spend so much energy trying to be who we think we should be that we forget who we actually are. Know what I mean? We pile on layers of expectations, other people's opinions, societal conditioning, and before we know it, we're walking around in a costume that doesn't even fit.
I've been doing this work for three decades now, and honestly? The most powerful sessions happen when someone finally drops the act. When they stop performing their life and start living it. That's when the real magic begins.
Your Pure Self isn't some perfect version of you waiting to be discovered. It's not the you who has it all figured out or the you who never makes mistakes. Your Pure Self is the one who exists beneath all the trying. It's the part of you that knows things without being taught, that feels truth in your bones, that responds to life from a place of genuine knowing rather than learned behavior.
Think about when you were a kid. Before you learned to second-guess yourself. Before you started monitoring your reactions to make sure they were socially acceptable. You laughed when things were funny. You cried when you were hurt. You said what you meant. You moved your body the way it wanted to move. That wasn't naivety. That was purity.
Look, I'm not saying we should all act like five-year-olds. We've learned things along the way that serve us. But somewhere in the process of growing up, we also learned to distrust our own instincts. We learned that our natural responses might not be welcome. We learned to edit ourselves in real time.
But here's what's interesting: your Pure Self never went anywhere. It's been running in the background this whole time, like software quietly operating while you use other programs. Every time you've had a gut feeling about someone, that's your Pure Self talking. Every time you've known something was right or wrong without being able to explain why, that's your authentic knowing speaking up.
The question isn't how to find your Pure Self. It's how to stop hiding it. How to peel back the layers of conditioning and remember what it feels like to move through the world without apology. To speak your truth even when your voice shakes. To make choices based on what feels right in your core rather than what looks right on paper.
Truth is, this takes courage. Because when you start showing up authentically, not everyone's going to like it. Some people are invested in the version of you that makes them comfortable. They might resist when you start setting boundaries or expressing opinions that don't match their expectations. But that's their work, not yours.
Your Pure Self knows things. It knows which relationships nourish you and which ones drain you. It knows which opportunities align with your path and which ones are distractions. It knows when to speak and when to listen, when to act and when to wait. But you can't access this knowing when you're busy performing who you think you should be.
I've watched clients transform when they finally give themselves permission to be genuine. Suddenly they're making decisions that actually make sense for their lives. They're attracting people and opportunities that align with their true nature. They're spending energy on things that matter to them instead of burning it up trying to maintain an image.
This isn't about being selfish or inconsiderate. Your Pure Self isn't separate from compassion and connection. In fact, when you're operating from authenticity, your relationships become more real, more intimate, more nourishing for everyone involved. Because you're not asking people to love a performance. You're asking them to love you. Are you with me?
The world needs your Pure Self. Not the polished version, not the version that has all the answers, but the real you with your unique perspective and gifts and way of being in the world. We've got enough people trying to be perfect. We need more people willing to be real.
Start small, because authenticity is a practice, not a destination. Tomorrow, notice one moment where you're about to say what you think someone wants to hear instead of what you actually think. Pause. Take a breath. Try saying something closer to your truth. See what happens.
Pay attention to your body throughout the day. When do you feel expansive and when do you feel contracted? Your Pure Self has a physical signature. It feels different in your body when you're being genuine versus when you're performing. Learn to recognize that feeling.
Give yourself permission to like what you like, even if it's not cool or sophisticated or what people expect from you. Your Pure Self doesn't care about trends. It knows what brings you joy, what feeds your soul, what makes you feel alive. Honor those things.
Practice saying no without elaborate explanations. 'No, that doesn't work for me' is a complete sentence. Your Pure Self doesn't need to justify its boundaries or preferences. It simply knows them and honors them.
Spend time alone without distractions. No phone, no music, no agenda. Just you and whatever comes up. Your authentic self emerges more easily in silence, away from the noise of other people's expectations and the world's demands. Listen to what wants to surface when you're not busy being anyone for anyone else.
When Pure Self appears in your reading, it's time to drop the mask. You've been performing a version of yourself that isn't quite true, and it's exhausting you. This card is permission to stop trying so hard to be what you think others want and start being who you actually are.
Maybe you're in a situation where you're compromising your values to keep the peace. Maybe you're staying quiet when you have something important to say. Maybe you're making choices based on what looks good rather than what feels right. Pure Self says enough. Your authentic voice is needed now.
This card can also indicate that you're ready to step into a more genuine version of yourself in some area of your life. Perhaps in your relationships, your work, your creative expression. You've outgrown an old way of being and you're ready to show up more truthfully. Trust that process. Right?
Sometimes Pure Self appears when you need to examine where you've been editing yourself out of fear. Where are you dimming your light or hiding your gifts? Where are you pretending to be smaller or different than you are? This card encourages you to reclaim those lost parts of yourself and integrate them back into how you move through the world.
