“Courage blooms where pride falls, embrace the mess to move the soul.”
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
""I own my truth with courage, knowing that my mistakes are stepping stones to wisdom.""
Look, I've been doing this work for thirty years, and here's what I've learned: the people who grow the fastest are the ones who can look you straight in the eye and say, "Yeah, I messed up." No drama. No excuses. Just truth.
But here's the thing... most of us were raised to believe that admitting mistakes makes us weak. Wrong. Dead wrong. It takes more courage to own your stuff than it does to hide behind justifications and blame. Think about that.
I remember working with this client who spent six months telling me why everyone else was the problem. His marriage was falling apart, his kids wouldn't talk to him, work was a nightmare. But it was always someone else's fault, you know? Then one day, something shifted. He came in and said, "Paul, I think I've been a real ass." That was the beginning of everything changing for him.
Honestly, there's something almost sacred about that moment when someone drops their defenses and gets real. The air changes. The energy shifts. It's like watching someone take off armor they've been wearing so long they forgot it wasn't their actual skin.
Here's what's wild: we think admitting mistakes will make people respect us less, but it's the opposite. When you own your stuff, people lean in. They trust you more, not less. Because finally, finally, they're talking to a real person instead of a carefully constructed image.
Truth is, your mistakes aren't your enemy. They're your teachers. Every screw-up is showing you something about yourself, about your patterns, about where you still need to grow. But only if you're brave enough to look.
I've made some doozies in my time. Said things I shouldn't have said. Made assumptions that hurt people. Acted from my own pain instead of my wisdom. And you know what? Each one of those moments was a gift, even though it sure didn't feel like it at the time.
The practice isn't about being perfect. It's about being honest. It's about catching yourself when you're about to make excuses and choosing truth instead. It's about saying "I was wrong" without adding "but you were wrong too." Are you with me?
There's this beautiful Japanese art called Kintsugi where they repair broken pottery with gold. The cracks become the most beautiful part of the piece. That's what happens when you admit your mistakes with grace. The breaks become golden lines of wisdom and strength.
Seriously, some of the most powerful people I know are the ones who can laugh at their own foolishness, who can say "Oops, that didn't go well," and then figure out how to do better next time. They're not walking around carrying the weight of pretending to be perfect.
But here's what's interesting... there's a difference between healthy accountability and beating yourself up. When you admit a mistake, you're not signing up for a guilt party. You're just saying, "Okay, that happened. Now what?" It's clean. It's clear. It's got forward momentum.
The people who can't admit mistakes? They're stuck. They keep repeating the same patterns because they can't see them clearly. They're so busy defending their actions that they can't learn from them. Wild, right?
Start small, because this is a muscle you need to build. When you catch yourself making a minor mistake today, practice saying "I was wrong about that" out loud. No explanations. No buts. Just clean ownership.
Notice what happens in your body when you think about admitting a mistake. Does your chest tighten? Does your mind start spinning stories? That's your ego trying to protect you from imaginary danger. Breathe through it.
Here's a powerful exercise: think of a recent mistake you've been avoiding or justifying. Write down exactly what you did wrong, without any mention of what anyone else did. This isn't about blame... it's about clarity. Then practice saying it out loud to yourself in the mirror.
When you're ready to take it further, choose someone you trust and practice admitting a mistake to them. Watch how it changes the dynamic between you. Most people will actually respect you more for your honesty.
The key is to stay in your body while you do this. Don't let your mind take you into shame spirals or defensive stories. Just stay present with the simple truth of what happened. Right?
When this card shows up, it's time to get honest about something you've been avoiding. There's a mistake you've made that needs acknowledging, and your soul is ready to handle it with grace.
This isn't about punishment or shame. It's about liberation. Something you've been carrying around is ready to be released through the simple act of honest ownership. The universe is saying: you're strong enough now to face this truth.
Look for where you've been making excuses or blaming others for something that's actually your responsibility. The card is pointing you toward a specific situation where clean accountability will set you free and open the door for real healing.
This might also be about forgiving yourself for past mistakes you've already acknowledged but are still carrying guilt about. Sometimes admitting mistakes means admitting you've learned and it's time to let go of the self-punishment.
Know what I mean? The energy around you is ready for this level of truth. Trust that you can handle whatever needs to be faced.
What mistake have I been avoiding or justifying that's ready to be honestly acknowledged?
How has refusing to admit past mistakes kept me stuck in old patterns?
What would become possible in my relationships if I could admit my mistakes with grace and courage?
