Energy Leak

The Thousand Little Deaths

We are all leaking energy. We leak it in our worries, in our resentments, in our unspoken truths. We leak it in our mindless scrolling, in our gossip, in our constant need for distraction. Each of these little leaks is a small death, a tiny abdication of our own power. And over time, these thousand little deaths can leave us feeling depleted, exhausted, and empty.

Energy Leaks as a Spiritual Practice

In many spiritual traditions, the practice of sealing the energy leaks is a fundamental part of the path. It is the recognition that our life force, our *Qi* or *Prana*, is a precious and finite resource. It is not something to be squandered on things that do not matter. It is something to be cultivated, to be conserved, to be directed towards our own awakening and the service of others.

The Tao of Energy Leaks

In Taoism, the concept of *Jing* is often translated as "essence." It is the deep, foundational energy that we are born with, and it is the source of our vitality and longevity. The Taoist sage is a master of conserving his Jing. He avoids excessive emotion, excessive desire, and excessive activity. He lives a simple, quiet, and balanced life, and in doing so, he preserves his own life force and extends his own life.

A Real-Life Example

I once knew a man who was a successful businessman. He had a big house, a fancy car, and a beautiful wife. But he was always tired. He was always stressed. He was always on the verge of a breakdown. He came to me for help, and I asked him to make a list of all the things that were draining his energy. He came back with a list that was three pages long. It included everything from his toxic relationship with his business partner to his addiction to the news. I told him to pick one thing on the list and to let it go. He chose to end his business partnership. It was a difficult and painful decision, but it was also the beginning of his healing. He began to reclaim his energy, to simplify his life, and to focus on the things that truly mattered to him. He is a different man today. He is calm, he is centered, and he is full of life.

How to Embody This Teaching

• The Practice of the Energy Audit: Take some time to make a list of all the things that are draining your energy. Be honest with yourself. What are the relationships, the activities, the habits, the beliefs that are leaking your life force?
• The Practice of Sealing the Leaks: Pick one thing on your list and make a commitment to let it go. It may be a difficult conversation that you need to have, a boundary that you need to set, or a habit that you need to break. But whatever it is, do it with courage and with love.
• The Practice of Cultivating Your Qi: Find a practice that helps you to cultivate and to conserve your own life force energy. It may be Qigong, it may be yoga, it may be meditation. But whatever it is, do it every day.

When This Card Appears

When the Energy Leak card appears in a reading, it is a sign that you are being called to pay attention to where your energy is going. It may be a sign that you are feeling depleted and exhausted, and that you need to take steps to reclaim your power. It can also be a sign that you are being called to a more conscious and intentional way of living, to a life that is in alignment with your own deepest values.
