The Teaching

You know what I've discovered after all these years? Poetry isn't just something you read or write. It's a way of being. It's how you move through the world when you're paying attention to the sacred rhythms that pulse beneath everything.

Here's the thing about poetry... it's life distilled down to its essence. No fluff. No hiding. Just truth, beauty, and meaning woven together in ways that make your soul sit up and take notice. And honestly? We need more of that right now. We need to remember that our lives can be verses, our actions can be stanzas, our love can be the meter that holds it all together.

I've watched thousands of people over the years, and the ones who really get it, who really live fully, they're the ones who understand that poetry isn't just words on a page. It's presence. It's seeing the amazing in the ordinary. It's recognizing that washing dishes can be a meditation, that a conversation with a stranger can be a prayer, that the way sunlight hits your kitchen table at 3 PM is actually a small miracle worth noticing.

Think about that for a second. When did we start believing that poetry was something separate from life? When did we decide that beautiful language was only for special occasions, that meaningful expression was only for 'real' poets? Truth is, you're already living poetry. Every choice you make, every word you speak, every gesture of kindness... that's your verse being written in real time.

But here's what's interesting about sacred action through poetry. It's not about being precious or performative. It's about authenticity distilled. When you approach your day like a poet approaches a blank page, you're looking for truth. You're listening for rhythm. You're watching for the moments when the ordinary cracks open and reveals something luminous underneath.

Look, I'm not saying you need to start speaking in metaphors or writing haikus about your morning coffee. Though honestly, if that brings you joy, go for it. What I'm saying is that poetry as sacred action means bringing that poet's awareness to everything. It means noticing the music in conversation. The imagery in your daily walk. The deep metaphors hidden in simple tasks.

Are you with me? Because this is where it gets really good. When you live poetically, you start to see connections everywhere. That argument with your partner isn't just conflict... it's two hearts trying to find harmony. That deadline at work isn't just stress... it's creativity under pressure, like coal becoming diamond. That difficult family gathering isn't just chaos... it's all your origin stories colliding in one room, each person carrying their own unfinished poem.

Seriously. Poetry teaches us that everything is connected. Every line relates to every other line. Every image builds on what came before and sets up what comes next. And your life? Same thing. Each moment is connected to every other moment. Each choice echoes forward and backward through your story.

Here's what I want you to really understand: when poetry becomes your sacred action, you stop living reactively and start living responsively. You pause before speaking, not because you're censoring yourself, but because you want your words to carry weight. You choose your actions not just for their immediate effect, but for the story they're telling about who you're becoming.

Wild, right? You become both the poet and the poem. The writer and the written. And suddenly, everything matters more because everything is part of your masterpiece in progress. That doesn't mean everything has to be perfect... have you read much poetry? The most beautiful verses often come from the broken places, the struggles, the messy human moments where we're just trying to figure it all out.

This is your invitation to live as if your life is the most important poem ever written. Because honestly? It is. Your story matters. Your voice matters. The way you move through the world creates ripples that become verses in other people's poems too. Know what I mean?

How to Embody This Teaching

So how do you actually live this? How do you make poetry your sacred action? Start simple, honestly.

Every morning, before you check your phone or get into your day, take three deep breaths and ask yourself: 'What verse am I writing today?' Not literally... though if words come, write them down. But really ask what story your actions are going to tell. What rhythm you want to establish. What beauty you want to create or notice or share.

Then, throughout your day, practice the poet's pause. Before you respond to emails, before you speak in conversations, before you make decisions, take that tiny moment to consider: 'Does this add beauty to the world? Does this honor the poetry of this moment?' Right? It's not about being perfect. It's about being intentional.

Here's something I do that really works: every evening, capture three moments from your day that felt poetic. Maybe it was the way your child laughed. Maybe it was how the barista smiled when you said thank you. Maybe it was the satisfaction of completing a difficult task. Write them down. Just a line or two. You're training your awareness to notice the verses as they're being written.

And look, if you feel called to write actual poetry, do it. Even if it's terrible. Even if it's just fragments. Even if it's just your shopping list written with attention and care. The act of putting words together thoughtfully is practice for putting your life together thoughtfully. Are you with me on this?

The goal isn't to become a published poet. The goal is to become someone who lives with the awareness that every moment is both ordinary and amazing, depending on how you look at it. That's the essence of sacred action through poetry.

When This Card Appears

When Poetry shows up in your reading, it's time to remember that your life is art in motion. This card is asking you to step back from the rush and noise and really look at what you're creating with your daily choices and actions.

Maybe you've been feeling disconnected from meaning lately, like you're just going through the motions. Poetry is here to remind you that there's sacred rhythm available in even the most mundane moments, if you're willing to tune in and pay attention. You don't need to change everything... you need to see everything differently.

This card often appears when you're being called to express something that's been building inside you. Not necessarily through writing, though that might be part of it. But through living more authentically, speaking more truthfully, choosing more consciously. Your soul wants to create something beautiful, and it's asking you to be both the artist and the art.

Truth is, Poetry showing up usually means you're ready for a deeper level of presence in your life. You're ready to notice the connections, the patterns, the meaning that's always been there waiting for you to see it. This is your invitation to live like the poet you already are, even if you've never thought of yourself that way.

Pay attention to what wants to be expressed through you. Listen for the rhythm that wants to guide your choices. Trust that your authentic voice, your genuine way of being in the world, is exactly the poetry this world needs right now.
