The Teaching

Conflict is not your enemy. Bless all conflict, and you start to see it as the raw material of transformation, the unavoidable friction that sharpens your spirit and reveals your blind spots. This card asks you to stop running from conflict or pretending it doesn’t exist. Instead, greet it like an old friend who’s come to shake up your comfortable illusions.

The Tao Te Ching teaches us that conflict arises from an imbalance of Yin and Yang, a disharmony in the natural flow of life. It is not naturally evil or something to be eradicated. Rather, conflict is a 'teaching call' to restore balance. The wise do not fight conflict head-on with brute force but practice wu-wei, non-action, that is, knowing when to act and when to allow the Tao to move through the situation. Like water flowing around a rock, flexibility and softness overcome hardness and resistance. Blessing conflict means recognizing that the apparent enemy is actually an invitation to soften, adapt, and realign with the natural order.

From the perspective of Advaita Vedanta, conflict is born from dvaita, the illusion of duality, the thought that there is a separate 'me' and 'you,' 'right' and 'wrong.' This separation is the root cause of all conflict. The Bhagavad Gita’s dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna unpacks this beautifully: Arjuna’s paralysis in battle is a metaphor for our inner conflict when we forget the fundamental truth that there is no two. Krishna advises acting without attachment to outcome, grounded in the knowledge of oneness. Blessing conflict means seeing beyond the surface clash to the underlying unity that connects all beings. When you bless conflict, you dissolve the illusion of separation that fuels it.

Buddhism cuts to the chase, pointing out that conflict arises from ignorance and the three defilements: greed, hatred, and delusion. These poisons cloud our perception, leading us to grasp, reject, or be confused by reality. External conflicts mirror the turmoil inside. The Four Sublime States, loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity, are the antidotes that dissolve the fires of conflict. Blessing conflict is the radical act of cultivating these qualities in the heat of discord, refusing to let anger or fear dictate your response.

Let me be real: blessing conflict is not some airy, feel-good exercise. It’s fierce, it’s tender, and it demands courage. Imagine a workplace scenario where two colleagues are locked in a bitter dispute over a project. The tension is palpable, productivity stalls, and resentment festers. Instead of taking sides or suppressing the issue, one person chooses to bless the conflict, to see it as a signal that something deeper needs attention. They step back, listen deeply without judgment, and invite honest dialogue. This act doesn’t magically erase the conflict overnight, but it shifts the energy from combat to collaboration, from division to connection.

Paul’s voice would be clear here: Blessing conflict means refusing to spiritual bypass, refusing to slap a smile on pain and pretend it’s all love and light. It means being with the discomfort, the anger, the fear, and saying, ‘You’re seen. You’re honored. You’re part of the path.’ Conflict is a sacred teacher if you have the guts to learn from it. It’s messy, it’s human, and it’s necessary.

So, bless all conflict. Bless the arguments, the misunderstandings, the internal battles that rage in your mind. Bless the friction that forces you to question your beliefs and stretch your heart. This blessing doesn’t mean you condone harm or avoid setting boundaries. It means you recognize conflict as a vital pulse of life, an opportunity to wake up, to heal, to align with the deep oneness that underlies apparent separateness.

When you bless conflict, you transform from victim or aggressor into a co-creator of harmony. You stop feeding the fires of division and start cultivating the fertile ground where understanding and peace can grow. This is real spiritual work, fierce, tender, and profoundly liberating.

How to Embody This Teaching

Today, when you encounter conflict, whether with another person or within yourself, pause and take a deep breath. Instead of reacting with defensiveness or avoidance, say silently or aloud: ‘I bless this conflict.’ Acknowledge the discomfort as a doorway rather than a wall. Practice wu-wei by sensing when to speak and when to listen, when to push and when to soften. Observe the emotions the conflict stirs without clinging or pushing them away.

Engage the Four Sublime States from Buddhism as your toolkit. Cultivate loving-kindness by wishing well to everyone involved, including yourself. Find compassion by recognizing the shared human struggle beneath the surface tension. Allow sympathetic joy by opening to moments of grace or breakthrough amid the difficulty. And anchor yourself in equanimity, holding steady through the waves of emotion without being swept away.

Journaling can deepen this practice, write about a recent conflict and explore what it’s trying to teach you. Where is the imbalance of Yin and Yang? What illusions of separation are at play? How can you embody the wisdom of Krishna’s counsel to Arjuna and act without attachment to outcome? Bless the conflict by reframing it as a sacred invitation to growth, not a curse to endure.

When This Card Appears

When the Bless All Conflict card appears in your reading, it signals a key moment to shift your relationship with discord. It invites you to stop resisting or fearing conflict and instead embrace it as a vital teacher. This card highlights that conflict is not a sign of failure or something to be eliminated but a natural and necessary part of life’s dynamic flow.

It calls you to practice fierce compassion, to hold space for difficult emotions and conversations without judgment or denial. The card encourages you to embody the Taoist principle of wu-wei, moving with the natural rhythms rather than forcing outcomes. It also reminds you of the Advaita truth that beneath apparent opposites lies fundamental oneness, an insight that can dissolve the roots of conflict.

In practical terms, this card may be urging you to address a brewing disagreement honestly and openly or to bless and transform inner turmoil rather than suppress it. Bless All Conflict invites you to step into the messiness of life with courage and wisdom, knowing that by doing so, you participate in the sacred dance of healing and harmony.
