The Teaching

Here's the thing about children, right? They're complete anarchists. Beautiful, wild, truth-telling anarchists who haven't learned yet that they're supposed to dim their light to make others comfortable. Watch a three-year-old for five minutes and you'll see someone living in complete alignment with their truth. They cry when they're sad, laugh when they're delighted, and have zero filter between their heart and their voice.

I've spent thirty years watching adults rediscover what they knew as kids: that authenticity is rebellion, that play is sacred, and that wonder is a superpower. Know what I mean? We spend so much energy trying to be acceptable, proper, reasonable. But here's what's interesting: the very qualities we're taught to outgrow are often the exact medicine our world desperately needs.

Your inner child isn't some cute metaphor. It's the part of you that still believes in magic, that sees possibility where others see problems, that loves without condition and trusts without proof. That's not naïve. That's powerful. In a world that profits from your disconnection from joy, choosing to stay connected to your childlike essence is an act of radical resistance.

Think about that. Seriously. When did you start believing that growing up meant growing smaller? When did you decide that maturity required you to stop dancing in grocery store aisles or asking 'what if' questions or believing that dreams come true? Someone sold you a story that wisdom means cynicism, but honestly? The wisest people I know have kept their sense of wonder intact.

Children see what adults have trained themselves not to see. They notice the way light moves through leaves, they make friends with strangers in five seconds, they create entire universes with cardboard boxes. They haven't learned yet that life is supposed to be hard, that people can't be trusted, that the world is a dangerous place. And while yes, we need healthy boundaries and street smarts as adults, we don't need to sacrifice our capacity for awe.

Look, I'm not talking about being irresponsible or throwing tantrums when you don't get your way. I'm talking about reclaiming the parts of yourself that knew how to play, how to love openly, how to be curious instead of judgmental. The parts that could spend an hour watching clouds and call it time well spent. The parts that believed you were capable of anything.

Truth is, most of our healing happens when we learn to parent ourselves the way we needed to be parented. With patience, with celebration, with the kind of love that says 'you're perfect exactly as you are, and you're also growing into something even more beautiful.' Children need to feel seen, heard, safe, and free to explore. So does the child that still lives inside you.

But here's what I've learned: you can't just think your way back to wholeness. You have to feel your way there. You have to be willing to look silly, to make mistakes, to not have all the answers. You have to be willing to let yourself want what you want, even if it doesn't make sense to anyone else. Especially if it doesn't make sense to anyone else.

Are you with me? The world needs your particular brand of magic. The way you see things, the questions you ask, the joy you bring when you're not trying to be someone else. We've got enough serious, practical, reasonable people. What we're missing is more humans brave enough to stay soft, to stay open, to keep believing that love wins and dreams matter and tomorrow could be the day everything changes.

How to Embody This Teaching

Start small, but start today. Give yourself permission to do something purely for joy. Color outside the lines, literally or metaphorically. Take the long way home and notice three things that make you smile. Call someone just to hear their voice. Wear clothes that make you feel like yourself, not like who you think you should be.

Create space for wonder. Ask 'what if' questions like you used to. What if this meeting could actually be fun? What if that person who seems grumpy is just lonely? What if this problem is actually an adventure in disguise? Children are natural scientists, constantly experimenting and discovering. Bring that curiosity to your daily life.

Practice feeling your feelings without immediately trying to fix or analyze them. Children are emotional weather systems: storms come and go, but they don't get stuck in one season. When you're sad, be sad. When you're excited, be excited. Stop apologizing for taking up space with your authentic emotional experience.

Most more to the point, talk to yourself the way you'd talk to a child you adore. With kindness, with encouragement, with the absolute certainty that you're worthy of love and capable of amazing things. Because honestly? You are.

When This Card Appears

This card showing up is your invitation to stop taking life so seriously and start taking joy more seriously. You've been playing by rules that don't serve you, trying to be acceptable instead of authentic. The universe is asking you to remember who you were before the world told you who to be.

Maybe you've been putting off something that brings you joy because it seems impractical or childish. Maybe you've been so focused on being responsible that you've forgotten how to be spontaneous. This card is permission to play, to experiment, to approach your challenges with curiosity instead of dread.

If you're facing a difficult situation, channel your inner child's superpower: the ability to see possibility where others see problems. Children don't know that something is supposed to be impossible, so they find ways to make it work anyway. What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?

This is also a reminder that healing often involves re-parenting ourselves. What did you need to hear as a child that you can give yourself now? What dreams did you abandon that are still alive inside you, waiting for you to be brave enough to pick them up again? Wild, right?
