About Paul and his work

Dear friend, if you’ve ever felt the weight of the world pressing on your shoulders, I want to share with you a simple, loving practice that has brought me deep peace and relief. Legs Up the Wall, or Viparita Karani, is more than just a pose; it’s a tender invitation to slow down, to reconnect with your body’s natural rhythm, and to nurture yourself with gentle care. In our busy lives, pausing like this can feel like a radical act of kindness.

What It Is

Legs Up the Wall is a restorative yoga pose where you lie on your back and extend your legs up against a wall, allowing gravity to do its soothing work. This posture helps to ease tension in your legs and lower back, encouraging a sense of lightness and relaxation. Imagine the sensation of your legs resting effortlessly, your breath softening, and your mind gently settling, a moment where you can simply be.

How It Supports Your Healing

This pose is a beautiful way to honor your body’s need for rest and rejuvenation. By elevating the legs, you may support circulation and lymphatic flow, which can help reduce feelings of heaviness or fatigue after a long day. The gentle inversion also encourages a calming effect on your nervous system, inviting a state of deep relaxation that nurtures your inner peace.

As you practice, you’re not just stretching muscles; you’re inviting your whole being to soften. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t always about doing more, but sometimes about embracing stillness and presence. Pairing this with the comforting aroma of lavender or sipping on a warm cup of organic chamomile tea can deepen your experience of calm.

How to Use It

  • Find a quiet space where you can relax without interruption. A soft blanket beneath you can add extra comfort.
  • Sit sideways next to a wall, then gently swing your legs up onto the wall as you lower your back to the floor.
  • Allow your arms to rest comfortably by your sides, palms facing up, inviting openness.
  • Close your eyes and breathe deeply, feeling the gentle stretch along your legs and the soothing sensation of gravity supporting you.
  • Stay here for 5 to 20 minutes, or as long as feels nurturing.
  • When you’re ready to come out, bend your knees and gently roll to one side before slowly pushing yourself up.

For added comfort, I love using a soft, supportive yoga bolster under my hips to enhance the gentle inversion and make the experience even more restful.

And if you’d like a little extra grounding after your practice, a touch of natural lavender essential oil can be a beautiful companion, gently soothing your senses.

Remember, this is your practice, honor your body’s signals and move with kindness.

Dear one, learning to slow down and care for yourself with simple practices like Legs Up the Wall is a beautiful step along your spiritual journey. Trust that in these quiet moments, your body and soul are weaving threads of healing and grace. Be gentle, be patient, and know that you are exactly where you need to be.
