Lecithin

A warm, inviting 1-sentence description of Lecithin

I have been making my own herbal tinctures for over 20 years. I share these topics as starting points for your own research.

These guides offer ideas for your own research, not a recommendation to use a product or change medical treatment. Paul's coaching focuses on life and spiritual guidance.

About Paul and his work

Look, I'll be straight with you about lecithin. This isn't some flashy superfood that'll change your life overnight, but it's one of those steady, reliable nutrients that quietly does amazing work in your body. Think of it as the unsung hero that keeps your cells talking to each other and your brain firing on all cylinders.

What It Is

Lecithin is basically a group of fatty substances found naturally in plant and animal tissues. Here's the thing though... your body actually makes lecithin on its own, but sometimes it needs a little backup. That's where supplementation comes in, right?

Now, you'll find lecithin in egg yolks, soybeans, and sunflowers. But here's what's interesting: most commercial lecithin used to come from soy, and honestly, that made me a bit nervous with all the GMO concerns. These days, I'm way more excited about sunflower lecithin. It's cleaner, less processed, and doesn't come with the baggage that soy sometimes carries. Know what I mean?

The star player in lecithin is something called phosphatidylcholine. Sounds fancy, but it's actually pretty simple. It's like the building blocks your cell membranes use to stay flexible and healthy. Without enough of this stuff, your cells start getting rigid. Not good.

How It Supports Your Healing

Honestly, lecithin works on so many levels that it's hard to know where to start. But let me share what I've seen over the years with my clients.

First off, brain health. Seriously. Your brain is about 30% lecithin, so when you're not getting enough, you might notice brain fog, memory issues, or that feeling like you're thinking through molasses. I've had clients tell me they feel sharper and more focused after adding lecithin to their routine. Makes sense when you think about it, right?

But here's where it gets really interesting. Lecithin is incredible for liver support. Your liver uses lecithin to break down fats and cholesterol. When you don't have enough, your liver has to work overtime, and that's when you start seeing issues with fatty liver or cholesterol problems. Think about that.

I've also noticed it helps with what I call "cellular communication." You know how sometimes you feel like your body's just not cooperating? Like your energy is scattered or your mood's all over the place? Often, that's because your cells aren't talking to each other efficiently. Lecithin helps smooth out those conversations.

And for my clients dealing with hormonal stuff? Lecithin can be a game-changer. It helps your body produce acetylcholine, which is involved in everything from muscle function to hormone regulation. Wild, right?

How to Use It

Truth is, lecithin is pretty forgiving. Most people do well with 1200-2400mg daily, but I always tell folks to start low and see how they feel. You're not trying to shock your system here.

Timing matters though. I like taking it with meals because it helps with fat absorption. Plus, it can make you feel a bit energized, so taking it too late might keep you up. Are you with me?

Here's a little trick I've learned: if you're dealing with brain fog or concentration issues, try taking your lecithin about 30 minutes before you need to focus. Some of my clients swear by this for work meetings or creative projects.

One thing to watch for... some people get a bit of digestive upset when they first start, especially if they jump in with a high dose. Just back off and build up slowly. Your body will adjust.

Here is a product you might like: NOW Supplements, Sunflower Lecithin 1200 mg with Phosphatidyl Choline, 200 Softgels.

Look, lecithin isn't going to cure everything that ails you, but it's one of those foundational nutrients that supports so many different systems in your body. I think of it as good insurance for your brain and liver. And honestly? At my age, I'll take all the brain support I can get. Your future self will thank you for taking care of these basics now.
