I have been making my own herbal tinctures for over 20 years. I share these topics as starting points for your own research.

These guides offer ideas for your own research, not a recommendation to use a product or change medical treatment. Paul's coaching focuses on life and spiritual guidance.

About Paul and his work

Look, I need to clear something up right from the start. There's been some confusion in the original content about what iron actually is. Iron isn't a homeopathic nosode made from tuberculosis bacteria, that's something completely different. Iron is a vital mineral that your body absolutely needs to function. It's one of those nutrients where if you don't have enough, you really feel it. Know what I mean?

Here's the thing: I've worked with thousands of clients over the years, and iron deficiency is way more common than most people realize. Especially among women, vegetarians, and anyone dealing with chronic health issues. Your body uses iron to make hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your system. Without enough iron, you're literally running on empty.

What It Is

Iron is an essential mineral, plain and simple. Your body can't make it on its own, so you've got to get it from food or supplements. There are two main types: heme iron (from animal sources) and non-heme iron (from plants and supplements). Heme iron is easier for your body to absorb, but don't worry if you're vegetarian or vegan, there are ways to boost absorption of the plant-based kind.

Now, with supplements, not all iron is created equal. Some forms can be really harsh on your stomach, causing nausea, constipation, or cramping. That's why I often recommend iron bisglycinate, it's chelated, which means it's bound to amino acids that make it gentler and easier to absorb. Seriously, it makes a huge difference.

Truth is, your body is pretty smart about iron. When you have enough, it slows down absorption. When you're deficient, it ramps up. But sometimes we need a little help, especially if you're dealing with heavy periods, following a plant-based diet, or your digestive system isn't absorbing nutrients like it should.

How It Supports Your Healing

Honestly, iron deficiency can make you feel like you're living in a fog. I've seen clients come in exhausted, breathless, with restless legs, brittle nails, and this deep fatigue that sleep doesn't fix. They think something's seriously wrong, and in a way, something is, but it's often something we can address pretty straightforwardly.

When your iron levels are optimal, it's like someone turned the lights back on. Your energy returns. That brain fog lifts. You can climb stairs without getting winded. Your hair stops falling out. Wild, right? But here's what's interesting: iron affects way more than just energy levels.

Iron plays a role in immune function, temperature regulation, and even cognitive performance. I've worked with students who couldn't concentrate, only to find their iron was low. Get that sorted, and suddenly they're sharp again. Are you with me?

For quality iron supplementation, I recommend Thorne Research - Iron Bisglycinate - 25 mg - 60 Capsules. Thorne makes clean, well-absorbed supplements, and their iron bisglycinate is gentle on the stomach while still being effective.

But here's the thing: iron isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Too much iron can be just as problematic as too little. Some people, especially those with certain genetic conditions, actually accumulate too much iron. That's why testing is so important before you start supplementing.

How to Use It

First things first: get tested. A simple blood test can check your hemoglobin, ferritin (iron storage), and other markers. Don't guess with iron, seriously. Too much can cause oxidative stress and other health issues.

If you do need iron, timing matters. Take it on an empty stomach if you can tolerate it, that's when absorption is best. But if it bothers your stomach, take it with a small amount of food. Just avoid dairy, coffee, tea, or foods high in calcium at the same time, they can interfere with absorption.

Here's a pro tip: take iron with vitamin C. Orange juice, bell peppers, strawberries, whatever works for you. Vitamin C significantly boosts iron absorption. I tell my clients to think of vitamin C as iron's best friend.

Start with a lower dose and work up if needed. Most people do well with 18-25 mg daily, but some need more. Listen to your body. If you get constipated, back off a bit or switch to a different form. If you feel nauseous, try taking it with food or at bedtime.

Track how you're feeling. Energy levels, sleep quality, exercise tolerance. It can take several weeks to notice changes, so be patient. Think about that: your body has been running low on this essential nutrient, it takes time to rebuild those stores.

For those interested in exploring other healing approaches, you might find Veratrum Album useful for certain digestive concerns, or consider browsing Boiron Homeopathic Remedies for complementary support.

Remember, healing isn't just about popping supplements. Good nutrition, adequate sleep, stress management, and regular movement all support healthy iron levels. But when you need that extra support, quality iron supplementation can be life-changing. Trust me, I've seen it happen thousands of times.
