I have been making my own herbal tinctures for over 20 years. I share these topics as starting points for your own research.

These guides offer ideas for your own research, not a recommendation to use a product or change medical treatment. Paul's coaching focuses on life and spiritual guidance.

About Paul and his work

Look, I'm going to be straight with you about dry brushing: it's one of those ancient practices that sounds too simple to actually work, but then you try it and you're like, "Whoa, where has this been all my life?" I've been recommending this gentle detox method to clients for years, and honestly, the feedback never gets old.

What It Is

Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like. You take a natural bristle brush and gently sweep it across your dry skin in specific patterns before you shower. That's it. No fancy equipment, no expensive creams, just you, a brush, and about five minutes of your morning routine.

Here's the thing though: this isn't some modern wellness trend. People have been doing this for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks did it. Scandinavian cultures have their own versions. Traditional Chinese medicine has used similar techniques forever. There's something to be said for practices that stick around that long, you know what I mean?

The brush itself matters. You want natural bristles, not synthetic. The bristles should be firm but not scratchy. Think of it like a good friend who tells you the truth but does it with kindness. That's your dry brush. It needs to stimulate without irritating.

How It Supports Your Healing

Your skin is your largest organ, right? And it's doing SO much work for you every single day. It's filtering toxins, regulating temperature, protecting you from the world. But sometimes it needs a little help moving things along. That's where dry brushing comes in.

The gentle stimulation gets your lymphatic system moving. Think of your lymphatic system as your body's cleanup crew. It's constantly collecting cellular waste and moving it toward elimination. But unlike your circulatory system, it doesn't have a pump like your heart. It relies on movement and pressure to keep things flowing. Dry brushing provides that gentle pressure.

I've had clients tell me they notice their skin feeling softer within days. That makes sense because you're sloughing off dead skin cells, revealing the fresh skin underneath. But here's what's interesting: many people also report feeling more energized. Some say they sleep better. Wild, right?

The blood circulation boost is real too. When you brush toward your heart, you're encouraging blood flow. Better circulation means more nutrients reaching your skin cells and more efficient waste removal. It's like giving your skin a gentle wake-up call.

Truth is, I think there's also something psychological about it. Taking five minutes to care for your body, to be present with yourself before the day starts... that's healing in itself. Are you with me?

How to Use It

Start at your feet. Always brush toward your heart. That's the golden rule. Long, sweeping strokes up your legs. Circular motions on your torso, always moving toward your heart. Up your arms from your hands to your shoulders.

Don't go crazy with the pressure. You want stimulation, not irritation. Your skin should look slightly pink afterward, not red or angry. If you're leaving marks, you're pressing too hard. Back off a bit.

Timing matters. Do this on dry skin before your shower, not after. The whole point is to stimulate circulation and remove dead skin cells, then wash it all away. I tell clients to start with just three times a week. Your skin needs time to adjust.

Here's a pro tip I learned over the years: pay attention to areas that feel tender. Those spots often correspond to areas where your lymphatic system needs extra support. Go gently there, but don't skip them entirely.

After brushing, take your shower. Some people like to alternate between warm and cool water to further stimulate circulation. Then moisturize. Your skin just got exfoliated, so it's going to drink up whatever you put on it. Use something natural if you can.

Replace your brush every few months. Those bristles wear out, and you want them working at their best. Clean it weekly with a little soap and water, then let it dry completely.

Seriously, five minutes. That's all this takes. But those five minutes of intentional self-care? They can shift your entire day. And your skin will thank you for it.
