A star is a karma machine.
It takes the simplest element - hydrogen, the cosmic raw material, the unprocessed potential - and through the sustained application of heat, pressure, and time, transforms it into progressively heavier, more complex elements.
Hydrogen becomes helium. Helium becomes carbon. Carbon becomes oxygen. Oxygen becomes silicon. Silicon becomes iron. Each transformation requires more energy than the last.
Each product is more complex than its predecessor.
