The quiet flame that burns without smoke
By Paul Wagner
Affirmation
""I honor my truth and speak with the fierce sincerity of an unguarded heart.""
You know that feeling when someone's talking to you and every word lands with the weight of truth? There's no performance, no agenda hiding in the corners. Just... sincerity. Raw, unfiltered authenticity. That's what we're talking about here, and honestly, it's become rare as hell in our world of picked everything.
Here's the thing about sincerity: it's not just about telling the truth. It's about being the truth. The Tao Te Ching talks about this beautiful concept called 'pu' – the uncarved block. It's the idea that our most natural state, before we pile on all the social conditioning and fear-based masks, is pure authenticity. Think about that. You were born sincere. Wild, right?
But somewhere along the way, we learned to edit ourselves. To say what people wanted to hear. To perform versions of ourselves that felt safer, more acceptable. I've been doing readings for thirty years, and I can tell you this: the moment someone drops their mask in a session, the energy in the room completely shifts. Suddenly we're not talking to their representative anymore. We're talking to their soul.
Advaita Vedanta teaches us that all separation is illusion. When you're truly sincere, you're not just being honest with others – you're aligning with the fundamental truth of existence itself. You're dropping the story that you need to be anything other than what you are. Are you with me?
Look, I get it. Sincerity feels vulnerable. When you speak from that deep place of truth, you can't control how people receive it. You can't manipulate the outcome. But here's what's interesting: that vulnerability is actually your strength. When you show up authentically, you give others permission to do the same. You create space for real connection, real healing, real growth.
Truth is, most of us are exhausted from wearing masks. We're tired of performing our lives instead of living them. Sincerity is the antidote to that exhaustion. It's coming home to yourself. It's the relief of not having to remember which version of yourself you're supposed to be with which people.
But sincerity isn't just about external expression. It's about internal integrity first. It's about being honest with yourself about your motivations, your fears, your desires. It's about looking at your shadow without flinching. It's about admitting when you've been lying to yourself, when you've been playing small, when you've been hiding behind stories that no longer serve you.
I remember a client who came to me completely burned out. She'd been saying yes to everything, agreeing with everyone, keeping the peace at all costs. She thought she was being kind, but really she was being dishonest. With everyone. Including herself. The moment she started speaking her truth, her whole life transformed. Not because everyone loved what she had to say, but because she finally respected herself enough to say it. Know what I mean?
Sincerity is a practice. It's choosing truth over comfort, authenticity over approval. It's the willingness to disappoint people in service of your integrity. And yes, it's scary. But it's also freedom. It's the end of the exhausting game of being what others want you to be.
When you embrace sincerity, you become a lighthouse. Your truth becomes a guide for others who are lost in their own performance. You show them it's safe to be real. You demonstrate that authenticity isn't just possible – it's the only way to truly live.
Start where you are, right now. Take a breath and ask yourself: where in my life am I performing instead of being? Where am I editing my truth to make others comfortable? Don't judge what comes up. Just notice.
Here's a simple practice I've been using for years: before you speak, pause for just a moment and check in with your intention. Are you about to say what you think they want to hear, or what's actually true for you? Are you trying to impress, please, or avoid conflict? Or are you speaking from that deeper place of authentic expression?
Try this for one conversation today. Just one. Feel the difference between performed words and sincere ones. Notice how your body responds when you speak from truth versus when you're managing an image. Your nervous system knows the difference, even when your mind doesn't. Trust that wisdom.
And here's something crucial: sincerity includes being honest about your uncertainty. You don't have to have all the answers to be authentic. Sometimes the most sincere thing you can say is 'I don't know' or 'I'm confused about this.' Truth isn't about having perfect clarity. It's about sharing what's actually alive in you, messiness and all.
Practice sincerity with yourself first. Journal without editing. Meditate without trying to be spiritual. Feel your feelings without justifying them. The more honest you become with yourself, the more naturally that honesty flows into your relationships with others.
When Sincerity appears in your reading, it's time to drop the masks and speak your truth. This card is calling you back to your authentic self, the one beneath all the social conditioning and fear-based editing. You've been performing your life instead of living it, and honestly? It's exhausting.
This card often shows up when you're at a crossroads between comfort and authenticity. Maybe you're in relationships where you can't be yourself, or a job where you're constantly pretending to be someone you're not. Sincerity is asking: what would it look like to show up as who you really are?
Look, this isn't about brutal honesty that hurts people for the sake of it. It's about aligned authenticity. It's about speaking from love, but speaking nonetheless. It's about respecting yourself enough to take up space with your truth, even when it's uncomfortable.
If you're dealing with a specific situation, this card is encouraging you to choose sincerity over strategy. Stop trying to manage outcomes through performance. Trust that your authentic self is not only enough, but exactly what's needed. The people meant for you will appreciate your realness. The ones who don't? Well, they weren't your people anyway.
This card is also a reminder that sincerity is magnetic. When you show up authentically, you attract authentic connections. You create space for real intimacy, real friendship, real love. Are you ready to stop settling for surface connections and step into something deeper?
Where in my life am I performing instead of simply being authentic?
What truth have I been avoiding because I'm afraid of how others might react?
How would my relationships change if I showed up with complete sincerity?
