The universe does not repeat lessons because it is cruel. It repeats them because you have not yet learned what they are trying to teach. The repetition IS the compassion.

The Signs Are Everywhere
Karmic patterns are not subtle. They are screaming at you. The problem is not that they are hidden - it is that you have normalized them so thoroughly that they feel like "just the way life is."
If the same type of person keeps showing up in your life - the same dynamic, the same wound, the same betrayal wearing a different face - that is not bad luck. That is a karmic pattern.
If you keep hitting the same wall in your career - the same ceiling, the same sabotage, the same moment where everything falls apart just as it was about to come together - that is not the economy. That is a karmic pattern.
If you keep choosing the same pain - the same addiction, the same avoidance, the same collapse into the same familiar darkness - that is not weakness. That is a karmic pattern so deeply grooved into your being that it feels like identity.
The Five Diagnostic Questions
When I work with someone in a reading, I ask five questions to identify their primary karmic patterns. You can ask them of yourself right now.
First: What keeps repeating? Not what happened once - what keeps happening. The pattern, not the incident. Look at your relationships, your work, your health, your spiritual practice. What is the loop?
Second: What feeling do you keep trying to avoid? Every karmic pattern is organized around an emotion that the system is trying not to feel. Abandonment. Shame. Rage. Grief. Helplessness. The pattern exists to keep that feeling at bay - and it will keep running until you finally let the feeling through.
Third: What did your parents repeat? Karmic patterns are often inherited. The pattern you are running may be a compressed version of a pattern your parents ran, which was a compressed version of their parents' pattern. Trace it back.
Fourth: What do you believe about yourself that you have never questioned? Karmic patterns always rest on a belief - "I am not enough," "Love always leaves," "Success is dangerous," "I do not deserve ease." These beliefs feel like facts because they have been reinforced across lifetimes. They are not facts. They are karma.
Fifth: What would change if the pattern stopped? This question reveals what the pattern is protecting. Sometimes the pattern persists because stopping it would require you to face something even more terrifying than the pattern itself.
The Escalation Principle
Karmic patterns do not stay at the same volume. They escalate. Each time the lesson comes around and you do not learn it, it comes back louder. The whisper becomes a nudge. The nudge becomes a shove. The shove becomes a crisis. The crisis becomes a catastrophe.
This is not punishment. This is the universe's compassion expressing itself through increasing urgency. The pattern is trying to get your attention. And it will keep escalating until it does.
I have seen this in thousands of readings. The person who ignored the whisper about their marriage for ten years and then got hit with a devastating betrayal. The person who ignored the nudge about their health for five years and then got a diagnosis that stopped them in their tracks. The person who ignored the shove about their career for three years and then lost everything in a single month.
The escalation is not random. It is precisely calibrated to the amount of resistance you are generating. The more you resist the lesson, the louder it gets. The more you avoid the feeling, the more dramatic the circumstances become. This is not cruelty. This is karma doing its job.
From Identification to Liberation
Identifying a karmic pattern is not the same as resolving it. But it is the essential first step. You cannot work with what you cannot see. And most people cannot see their patterns because they are standing inside them.
Once you identify a pattern, the work is threefold. First, stop participating in it. This does not mean the pattern disappears - it means you stop feeding it with your unconscious choices. You notice the familiar pull and you choose differently, even when every cell in your body is screaming to do the familiar thing.
Second, feel what the pattern was protecting you from. This is the hard part. The pattern exists because there is an emotion underneath it that feels unsurvivable. Abandonment. Annihilation. Shame so deep it feels like death. You have to let that emotion move through you - with support, with ceremony, with skilled guidance if needed.
Third, practice the opposite. Not as a performance. Not as a spiritual bypass. But as a genuine, embodied experiment in being different. If your pattern is withdrawal, practice staying. If your pattern is control, practice surrender. If your pattern is self-abandonment, practice fierce self-loyalty. The practice rewrites the groove.
