Personality Cards: The Meaning Behind the Symbols PT 2

In our second part of exploring the Personality Cards and their meanings, we continue to discover the symbolism of the unique card series and most importantly, how to interpret these cards when you draw it. Have an open heart when you pull from the cards and always remember, be kind and loving to yourself while you’re looking for answers!

The Cowboy  

The Cowboy of my personality cards is simple and authentic, someone who knows who they are deep down. The Cowboy values honor and loyalty; striving to see the good in people and is therefore not afraid to give them the benefit of the doubt. Their focus is doing right and being a protector of others. They are also very good at taking charge and leading the way in any situation, attracting good people and holding on to them. The only way to get there is if you have honor and integrity, starting with striving to remove complications and keep things simple because this simplicity will help you see things how they truly are. The Cowboy wants us to seek to be healthy and productive people, follow commitments through and avoid emotional dialogue.

The Interrupter

The Interrupter often sees no harm in jumping into other people’s activities without giving it much thought. The reception for this is usually not positive, but the Interrupter usually has no ulterior motives or ill intentions when they do this. People are very different, and so are their reactions to things; some may find this very annoying, while others may see nothing wrong with the Interrupter’s actions. This card encourages us not to take anything personally, but instead focus on the insightful things we have gotten from the interactions that we have participated in. The goal is to always be receptive and slow down to allow you to receive what you need.

The Squeeze    

The Squeeze is very manipulative; they know your weaknesses and what makes you vulnerable, tapping into those aspects of yourself to make things work in their favor. It is often quite challenging to realize the manipulation because their actions seem very harmless, but therein lies how manipulation works. In the real sense, the Squeeze is using wit and strategy; most of the time, they come in the form of something disruptive or service. At times we get into situations hastily, and The Squeeze reminds us to do our research before getting into situations that may not work out in our favour. You need to demand transparency, be very protective, and think critically; this is the only way you will see things from a fresh and clear perspective. This also serves as a reminder that no blessing comes from rushing into things and therefore, guard yourself. This card encourages us to stop playing games with others, and instead be authentic to enjoy our own freedom.

The Covert

The Covert is a curious soul that questions everything and reminds us that everything is not what it seems to be; there is always something hidden if we have the courage to look. The Covert believes that honesty serves in seeking light even in the shadows by being forthcoming about what you do, choosing to live in the light, your energy intensifies. The Covert makes us question and rethink our whole being; it forces us to get rid of the mentalities we have about humanity and other illusions we have in us. It encourages us to be alert because there are many things unknown to us in existence. It also urges us to embrace honesty, clarity, and transparency with people around us, especially when we are fond of having secret dealings. This does not mean that you reveal everything you are doing, but it wants you to be truthful, avoid being shady and manipulative, and live in the light and this light will shine your energy brighter and more radiant.

     The Yesterday

Letting the past remain in the past is easier said than done; it is a challenge for us to let go. The Yesterday in my personality cards wants you to live the moment and let the past be. We tend to hold on to what happened to us before, thinking of what could have been having something happen differently. The truth is that we cannot change what happened and the more we are adamant about letting the past be the past, the more we miss out on living the moment. What joy is there to being alive if we can’t live it? We can get stuck in a vicious cycle that prevents us from moving forward, carrying the past with us and dragging us down with it. The Yesterday asks us not to dwell on the past, to focus on the present and create room to make new memories because if we don’t, life will pass us by.

The Innocent Rascal

When people repeatedly point out that you are guilty, it eventually settles in you, and you start to believe them.  This is the case for the Innocent Rascal in my personality cards, who often has an energetic body, that is constantly under scrutiny and appears very untrustworthy. This personality card is encouraging us not to be hasty in passing the guilty judgment on the Innocent Rascal, and for the Rascal, the message is an encouragement to release all the negativity that people have them about themselves over and over; instead, they should focus on the positive traits they have and things that speak of inner love for them to let go of the shame and guilt.

The Socializer

The Socializer finds their joy in sharing information with anyone willing to lend a listening ear. Information, in this case, varies from facts and data to gossip and secrets; as long as the information will either educate or excite the listener, then the Socializer will share it with them. Socializers are often quick to share the information they get, ensuring that their audiences stay informed. This gives them the responsibility to ensure what they share with their audience is positive. The downside to being a Socializer is that your following often believes in what you feed them, and you might be an instrument of destruction and discord if you feed people with half-truths, secrets, and gossip. Therefore, it is up to the Socializer to ensure they exercise love and kindness in what they share with others.

The Hermit

The Hermit’s message for my personality cards deck is that people should take a step back and reconsider what we are addicted to, what we are obsessed with, and what we possess. When we seclude ourselves for long periods of time, this tends to dissolve how we connect to ourselves and how we connect to the light. It is important to find a balance in how we relate to society and the norms that it has in place. We have to break free from whatever is holding our senses captive and learn to live a freer and more fruitful life. We need to be aware of who we are by fostering a balanced connection that prevents us from withering away or forgetting ourselves. Only then will you discover the actual value of things.

The Grouch

The Grouch encourages us to speak our minds just like they do and what happens when we speak up, is a teachable moment we should embrace, both positive and negative. This encouragement is that pretense is not beneficial; there is no need for you to pretend to be happy when you are not. Instead, allow yourself to be grumpy, learn from it and go on. The Grouch highlights our constant need to hide our imperfections and pulling this card to meant to encourage us to be honest when we look at ourselves and feel inspired by what we see. We should filter all the negativity from the feedback, opinions, and experiences we go through and focus on what is helpful to our growth. We do not always have to take everything said to us, only what is valuable, and ignore the rest.

The Transparent

The Transparent reminds us that life is at its simplest when we approach it with honesty, transparency, and goodness. This personality is very genuine and lovely. According to their understanding, one loses energy when we pretend, so this card encourages us to not succumb to that. We should rethink our engagement with the world by consuming less media content and being less busy; essentially, learning to consume less in general. This soul asks us to re-evaluate our tendencies and assumptions, look for what is sincere and authentic to us and connect with that to be peaceful. When we are open to all these, we feel and become free.

The Heart Collector

The Heart Collector in my personality cards is a charismatic soul who acknowledges that love can move mountains. They are generous and gracious and can see right through you. The Heart Collector wants to remind us that we should stop seeking validation from others and warns us against being full of ourselves. When we inflate our egos and make everything about us, we lower our vibration, and instead, we should remain straightforward, unselfish, and sincere.

The Little Devil

The Little Devil has built a reputation around a fascination with the dark edges of reality. They implore you to have some excitement in your life, meet mysterious people, do things you would not normally do. This is to encourage you to feel things you never thought possible and welcome new experiences into your life. However, The Little Devil warns us against letting our desires control us; we need to be in control of what we desire and what we crave because they are usually temporary and sometimes potentially dangerous. Therefore, you should ask the Divine to enlighten your shadows, let you not be consumed by your desires, and learn to control them.

The Softie

The Softie is a kind and warm soul that inspires others to be warm and show compassion and empathy to others. They are sweet and, without effort, make us warm up to them. The Softie encourages us to trust our hearts even when circumstances are upsetting and chaotic. We should not be afraid to reveal our sweetness even in situations that seem very heated. Sweetness and benevolence are very uplifting, and we should never forget that. However, this does not mean that you should let anyone walk all over you because you are kind and sweet; you should not be swayed by those who think you have no say; you should defend what you stand for and refuse to be a pushover.

The Verge

The Verge is constantly pushing and committed to success by fighting through every storm that comes their way. They are hardworking, relentless, courageous, and practices perseverance. But, this can cause stress and exhaustion when they push themselves too hard. The Verge reminds us that while success is good and achieving what you set out to do is remarkable, you should know your limits. Learn to understand that there is time for everything and sometimes, you must slow down. Pushing yourself too hard is not the way to attaining success. It is good to, at times, relax and take your mind off the pressure; it is not wasting time, and who knows, you might find the solution to your problem if you sit back and relax. You may see things from another fresh and helpful perspective if you are not always engrossed in what you are doing.

The Money

The Money reminds us that even though material wealth that not conflict directly with spiritual growth, it can blur the growth. The Money knows that currency’s purpose is the empowerment of initiatives, both business and family. This personality is good at operating what controls Money, but can also sense when it is tarnished. At time, they can forget that obsession with currency can bring conflict with happiness. This card tells us that money is not bad because, after all, we need it for our daily transactions and exchanges, but we should not expect anything from money, as it can also bring the bad in us. We should also know how to interact with it and not let it get in the way of our relationships with others and how our minds about things. Money should not make you shallow-minded, leaving you desperate for more and making you think you are better than others because the money comes and goes. The Money urges us to know how to interact and behave with currency.

The King

The King is strong, gentle, loving, fair, just and an eternal father.  The King is a seasoned warrior; assuring us freedom and safety, knowing when to strike and when to defend. The King urges us also to be confident in what we want; we should also have the courage to ask for it. This card is reminding us that it is essential to let others have their voice, especially when you are in a leadership position. As a leader, you should practice consensus, be firm and yet still practice gentleness. You should command into existence what you desire through grace and humility. Be open-minded, swift, decisive, and courageous.

    The Yearning

The Yearning is kind, understanding, and passionate; who understands pain and suffering and sympathizes with you when challenges arise. However, this card focuses on sadness more than hope. The Yearning always focuses on the distress and chooses to see the worst in all situations, preparing for the worst, which translates to attracting the worst. The Yearning is a reminder that feeling hopeless and helpless in every situation is not suitable for you. There are no miracles that will work for you; instead, we should choose to focus on the good and start at any point. Even when it still seems unclear where it is headed in short, take a step forward. The message is to ward off negativity, always have hope that things will turn out well, have courage and faith and by all means, embrace and confess positivity and you will become it; what you confess is what you will possess.

The Networker

The Networker in my personality cards enjoys social interactions, making meaningful introductions, and meeting new people. Building a network and relationships while sharing resources and exchanging value is priceless to the Networker. Through this, the world advances, and people are always quick to monetize things, reducing the value of interactions. To the Networker, it is not about the money; the knowledge, insight, and experience one can get from these interactions are very useful. The Networker seeks knowledge, especially in an ever-changing and advancing world, and we can all benefit from this as they believe there is always enough for everyone. Introductions can improve resources depths and not only limit the resources to money, so this card encourages us to be open to introductions and interactions. Therefore, we should strive to socialize and get to know others because that is how we know we are playing the game of life right.

When we seek deeper meaning and more connection with ourselves and the universe, divination through personality cards is a powerful, accessible tool that we can use for our benefit.  We can become more self-aware and learn how to better navigate how we interact with the world. The Bumble Bee reminds us that it is best to open our minds to every possibility and free our imaginations, be present and aware, take risks and let go of the need to be in control. The Feeler

The Feeler is a sensitive soul; sensitive to vibrations, words, thoughts, and sounds. They are very insightful in transforming dynamics and processes and helping people with something as small as a glance, gesture, or even a word. The Feeler believes that if you want to understand yourself and human nature, then you must practice empathy. You should practice compassion and empathy in any situation you find yourself in. You will only get to see from every perspective because you will be in harmony with everything around you. This approach will help you find the best action to take for any situation. The Feeler encourages us to be open to the energies around us, but not forget to respect our boundaries and those we want to connect with.

The Righteous Beast

The Righteous Beast is a personality that leans toward aggressiveness and assertiveness. A reminder that, at times, you require aggression to get what you want in life. You need to defend your dreams even when they seem absurd to others and what you believe in without bowing to any external pressure. The Righteous Beast encourages you to channel your focus and embrace your authentic self. Get rid of whatever is trying to restrict and confine you, the conditions limiting you from achieving what you want. We are often too scared to get out of our comfort zone, but this personality card urges us to go beyond our comfort zone and explore our most tremendous potential. The Influencer

The Influencer believes that being generous, through sharing and being helpful, is valuable when it comes to sharing information. The Influencer is charismatic and bright, encouraging others to express themselves, constantly coming up with new concepts, and can easily persuade you to like the person you are. This Personality Card also urges you to be keen on the readily available resources because they will help augment your well-being and wealth. Since the Influencer aims to impress through their speeches, clothes, and appearances, being associated with them might also improve how people view you, say elevation by association! The Influencer urges us to be generous givers with no expectations and not have a high opinion on popularity and position.

The Floating

The Floating is charming, charismatic and endearing, who makes us inherently feel safe when we’re around them. They are sweet and warm, but connecting with them is a challenge because they never seem to be grounded in one place. Touching the ground would mean establishing roots in one place, and this is something they find hard to do. The Floating flirts and flatters, but before it gets any deeper, they fly away. The message here is an encouragement to learn commitment, give yourself a chance to touch the ground, and establish roots to learn things like focus and loyalty. This way, your life is guaranteed to change.

The Hedonist

For the Hedonist, life is defined as pleasure, desire and anything with a sensory input. The Hedonist is very sensual, adventurous, and asks us to question the status quo and to expand our perceptions of what we think we want in life. At times, we are bound by how we perceive things, and we become rigid to change, and instead choose a path in life that in fact imprisons our authentic selves.  The Hedonist is reminding us that it is okay to want pleasure; after all, we are human. And, allowing ourselves to experience all this is a way to heal parts of us that want to be nurtured and seen.

The Mystical

The Mystical acts as a bridge between the physical form and the spirit, and taps into the spiritual and biological aspects passed down from generation to generation. The Mystical acts as a messenger by inviting your ancestors and guides to speak to you through them. They are open-hearted, intuitive, loving, and usually very committed to helping you cultivate clarity and happiness in your lives. This is a call to be open to receiving what the Universe is trying to communicate to you. Do not shut the doors and windows to your heart and soul to experience the energy that is vibrating around you. Let the current flowing within you embrace the forces around it and be inspired by them.

The Comedian

The Comedian is an inventive and wildly dark Shaman. Society has a lot of beliefs, philosophies, and perceptions that limit what people can do. In these beliefs, some falsehoods have been created over the years and instilled in us, so much so that they have become part of the truth. The Comedian wants you to challenge these misconceptions and false narratives; there are so many illusions that we have created in and among us, and it is high time we get rid of them too. The truth will always set you free from mental prisons, limiting beliefs that have held us captive so long that we cannot see ourselves. The Comedian wants you to strive for awareness to deconstruct all the false narratives, find the truth, and eventually find your freedom.

The Cuddler

The Cuddler wants you to experience healthy physical and emotional intimacy. They are a very affectionate soul who encourages you to get in touch with your feelings and not shut them out. They understand how valuable affection is and its power in shifting one’s mood. A small gesture like a hug or a massage goes a long way in healing a fractured or wounded heart or spirit. There is no shame in asking for a hug or a simple action like holding hands, we yearn to feel love and affection, and it is good to let yourself be loved and experience affection. The Cuddler also warns about overdependence on touch because this can limit your growth; instead, strike a balance to ensure you have a healthy attachment to others. It is also a reminder that while we expect and yearn for intimacy with others, we should practice self-love, feed our bodies, minds, and souls with love, and let that mirror how we want to be loved. There is nothing wrong with wanting affection; embrace it because that makes us human.

The Serpentine

The Serpentine is very conniving, lustful and hungry in a way that is not beneficial to you and those around you. They are very mischievous, crafty, and sneaky. The Serpentine is also very manipulative and will show you what you always desire, trick you into what you always crave, and pushes you to be selfish so that you can reveal your secrets. This card encourages us to look inside ourselves and improve what we believe, what we desire, our motivations, and what we pledge allegiance to because the Serpentine will bring out the worst in us. It does not serve us to be devilish; we need to embrace honesty, balance our desires, hunger, and ambitions so that they do not lean towards selfishness, and strive to make our desires good so that in case we are visited by the Serpentine, he does not take away the goodness in you and consume it with mischief, craftiness, and selfishness.

The Awakened

Is also called the One Who Comes into the State of Oneness, the embodiment of the spirit, energy, soul, light, force, and physical. There is no way to separate any of these elements because they are woven together in something; you! The Awakened reminds us that we are loved, and we are love; therefore, we should practice commanding love even in situations that seem impossible to teach love. The Awakened encourages us to move swiftly from one challenge to another with consciousness. Even when it seems impossible, we should not forget to practice love because it will bring miracles and light. In a world that is often very cruel, the Awakened reminds us that we should not join the cruel bandwagon to spread cruelty; instead, we learn to see ourselves in the highest life, which begins by commanding love and believing that we are love and deserve love.

The Shifter

The Shifter challenges us to change our patterns and encourages us to grow. We are always stuck in the same place with the same things out of habit with the fear of venturing into unfamiliar territories. However, being in a routine dims our innovations, creativity, and inspiration. Therefore, the Shifter wants us to step out of our routines, be daring enough to embrace the wild where we still have no formed habit, explore what is out there, and be open to inviting change in every aspect of our lives because change is inevitable and is at times exactly what we need.

The Silent

The Silent knows the value of sitting in our thoughts, in the quiet, connecting with the eternal as they find peace in the silence. Our everyday lives are filled with so much going on; at times, we must be still, keep quiet and find peace in the silence. You will quickly and easily feel tranquility if you maintain silence and practice meditation; the journey to serenity will be longer if you do not silence your mind and constantly keep analyzing things. Silence is golden, and this personality card reminds us to exercise it, make room for the Universe, deepen ourselves, and find quick, amicable, and reasonable answers to our problems.

The Healer

The Healer is pure and clear; they help others soothe the vibrations by holding intentions of flow and rejuvenation. To be like the Healer, you must accept vulnerability and not be afraid. We often build high walls around us to prevent others see us in our vulnerable states. Still, the Healer reminds us that light and sound are foundational elements of creation and make up physical matter, thoughts, and emotions. Souls embody love frequencies in their purest forms, and therefore, we need to allow external expansiveness to flow through us and align love and light with healing fractures. It is a reminder to allow ourselves to be vulnerable; only then will our prayers be answered, and we will find peace.

The Family Fable

The Family Fable loves and adores family. They use ancestral stories to validate his beliefs and desires and does well when their family thrive. The Family Fable reminds us that there are a lot of good values that we can pick from; however, the Family Fable warns us that, at times, the family can be destructive, and we have to pay attention to that. Some of us are in toxic family relationships without even realizing it. While to some, it is uncommon for a family to be wrong or toxic, we need to acknowledge that there is no picture-perfect family and at times, what is draining the zeal of life out of you is your family. You may also be picking up negative traits from them that make you toxic to others. Therefore, evaluate which family aspects are helping you grow and which ones are not.

The Harness

The Harness is a leader who wants the team members to put their skills to good use and strives to inspire them through language to help them enjoy and invest in working together for the common good. They aim to ensure collaboration and bring people together. The Harness can help teams realize their full potential, even those that seem to be mediocre. They tap into the passion and expertise of every team member with courage. They realize that people can achieve a lot if they work together; two heads are better than one, and therefore, they will succeed with each team player having a specific task custom to their area of expertise. The Harness is a reminder that collaborations bring out the best in everyone; they are very productive and ease one’s mind off doing all the work themselves. If you want to go far, walk with others.

The Whimsical

The Whimsical is a light-hearted soul who believes in the path to your freedom through magic and playfulness. It is never that serious; therefore, the Whimsical chooses playfulness over everything. They see through the barriers you have created and goes straight to the heart of the matter. We often set many boundaries and restrictions that limit us from being who we are. These restrictions cage us in a box and deny us our freedom. But the Whimsical reminds us that there is a whole world of infinite possibilities outside our cocoons. Sticking to what we know and not willing to explore anything else that is out there makes us miss out on the gift of magic that is ever present around us. This card urges you to relax, let loose, exert yourself beyond your cocoon, and see yourself expand, take that leap of faith.

Transformative rituals and ceremonies give shape to our lives and mark important moments. We may have a baptism or christening ceremony when we’re born, we go through school graduation ceremonies, we may experience coming-of-age rituals, and we mark birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and even death with ceremonies. Throughout our lives, we send out prayers for healing, forgiveness, hope, clarity, and peace.

But these practices can also be useful in our day-to-day lives to help us find peace and positivity. Read on to discover some of the best prayers, transformative rituals, and ceremonies you can practice to bring more positivity into your life.

The Heart Sutra

According to Karl Brunnhozl, the heart sutra is “the most frequently used and recited text in the entire Mahayana Buddhist tradition.” The heart sutra covers the five aggregates of human existence: rupa (form), vedana (feeling), sankhara (volitions), samjna (perceptions), and vijnana (consciousness). It then explains the Four Noble Truths, which say that human suffering arises from attachments, and that we can let go of these attachments by following magga.

The heart sutra concludes with a mantra which reads “Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha.” This translates to “Gone, gone, everyone gone to the other shore, awakening, svaha.” You can repeat this sutra as you work to release the things that are holding you back in life.

You might be surprised to learn that writing letters can be a powerful and transformative ritual in your life. When we write things down, we manifest them in more concrete ways in our lives. Writing helps us to release negative attachments, process emotions, and set positive intentions for ourselves and others.

Make it a habit to sit down and write one letter a week, focusing on positivity and light as you do so. This letter could be to a friend, a family member, a role model, a teacher, or even to yourself. Pour your love and positivity into the letter and then, if you choose, send it to the person you wrote to to pass on some of that positivity.

Change the Book of Life

The Change the Book of Life ritual is a powerful way to release people and things that are holding you back in this life. Begin by sitting quietly and making a list of everything you need to release, whether that be a person, a place, an event, an experience, or an idea. Then go out into nature alone and find a peaceful place where you can reconnect and perform the ritual.

Sit quietly and imagine your guides and deities to join you, imagining that you can see them in front of you. Speak the things that you want to release out loud, and tell the universe that you want to return all gifts that were exchanged with the thing you’re releasing. Ask for the help of your deity with this challenge, and tell them that you want the book of life to be changed for all time starting in that moment.

Smudging

Smudging sage is an ancient and powerful ritual that can cleanse your space of negative energy and bring positivity into your life. Burning can be a powerful way to remove negative influences, and you may see it used in a variety of transformative rituals. And the ancients knew that sage has powerful purifying abilities that can transform our spaces.

Begin your smudging ritual with a bundle of sage purchased from your local new age store or online. Light the end of the sage with a match, blowing it out quickly if it takes flame and allowing the leaves to smolder and release thick smoke. Use your free hand to waft the sage smoke around yourself, your home, or the object you want to cleanse.

Yoga Sun Salute

Yoga is one of the most powerful transformative rituals you can engage with day-to-day. It combines the best of meditation and connection with your body, healing you and bringing peace and centering to your life. In particular, saluting the sun each day can ground you, restore your connection to your body and the earth, and allow you to breathe in the pranic energy around you.

There are a number of sun salutations you can perform, but the simplest begins in mountain pose, or tadasana. Move through uttanasana into ardha uttanasana and then to a plank position or to chaturanga dandasana. Inhale as you move into bhudjangasana and then to downward facing dog, and then step forward into uttanasana again before rising once more to tadasana.

Ritual for Release

Letting go of things that are holding you back and of negative spirits can help you to find more peace and fulfillment in your life. For this ritual, you’ll need a candle; some loose, dry sage; a handful of cornmeal; some organic tobacco; and a bottle of water. Go into nature and find a peaceful place where you can meditate and perform your ritual.

Place your candle on a flat stone and light it, and then sit down and sprinkle a circle of the sage, cornmeal, and tobacco around you. Reach out to your ancestors, deities, and helpers and ask them to fill your heart with light. Tell the negativity attached to you that you love it, but it’s time to say goodbye, and then ask your deities and helpers to remove the negative energy from your life forever.

Tea Ceremony

The tea ceremony is a sacred ritual that focuses around the preparation of matcha tea. Matcha is one of the finest green teas in the world and has a number of health benefits. A full chaji can last as long as four hours and involves a full-course meal, as well as two types of tea and confections.

A proper Japanese tea ceremony involves hosting guests, so be sure to send out formal invitations. Once guests arrive, have them remove their shoes and wash their hands before you cleanse each tool. Then prepare the thick matcha tea with three teaspoons of matcha in a cup of water, allowing each guest to sample the tea before making a thinner tea and serving it to your guests.

Morning Prayer

Morning prayers are a great way to start your day off with a focus on what’s really important for your heart, mind, and soul. There are hundreds of morning prayers you can incorporate into your morning routine, depending on your needs and your beliefs. It could even be as simple as “Good morning, fill my day with light and positivity.”

The Jewish have a beautiful morning prayer from the Modeh Ani tradition. This prayer is typically recited before one even gets out of bed in the morning to center you in your day. It reads, “I offer thanks to You, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great.”

Gandhi’s Prayer

Mahatma Gandhi was a revolutionary leader who worked for peace and equality. He was a Hindu and lived a life of dedication and focus on the truly important things in and out of this world. He wrote a prayer that we can use when we need to center our intentions in life.

Gandhi’s prayer reads, “I will be truthful. I will suffer no injustice. I will be free from fear. I will not use force. I will be of good will to all men.”

Rumi’s Prayer

Jalaluddin Rumi was a Sufi mystic who lived in the 13th century. His writings became a central part of this branch of Islam, and even today, you can find his words of inspiration all over the world. You can even find posts on Pinterest repeating the timeless words of this man who lived more than 800 years ago.

Rumi wrote many prayers, but one of his most powerful reads, “O love, O pure deep love, be here, be now – be all; Worlds dissolve into your stainless endless radiance, Frail living leaves burn with you brighter than cold stars. Make me your servant, your breath, your core.”

Buddha’s Prayer

Of course, the Buddha is still one of the most revered religious figures to ever walk this earth. He lived sometime in the 6th or 5th century BCE in India, and his teachings launched the Buddhist religion. Like Rumi, the Buddha wrote many prayers, but one of his most enduring is also one of the simplest.

One of the Buddha’s best healing prayers reads, “There is only one time when it is essential to awaken. That time is now.” You can repeat this to yourself as a mantra when you need centering or when you feel yourself getting lost in the hustle and bustle of our demanding modern life.

Hail Mary

For many of us in the West, the word “prayer” is often associated with Christianity. Although most Christian prayers for safety and protection are directed to God, some prayers from the Catholic denomination are directed towards saints. In particular, the Hail Mary is an ancient prayer to the mother of Jesus that Catholics use as a sort of meditation or mantra.

The Hail Mary reads, “Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.”

Meditation

It may seem strange to refer to meditation as a ritual or ceremony, but it is one of the most ancient and powerful traditions in our world. Meditation is a practice of being present in the current moment, connected to the body and the breath. You allow all thoughts of the past or future to drift away and focus on being fully in this moment, connecting to your body and taking in the energy of the universe around you.

Your meditation practice can look like whatever you need it to day to day. Beginners may want to start with short guided meditations that center them in their day and help them learn to release distractions. More experienced meditators may want to delve into longer sessions that allow them to dig into their innermost awareness, connect with the soul of the universe, and engage deeply with their body and breath.

Fear Healing Ceremony

Fear can be a powerful force in our lives, holding us back and chaining us to negativity. It can even begin to have a physical impact, stealing our sleep and causing problems with our digestion. Going through a fear healing ceremony can be an important first step towards wholeness and healing.

For this fear healing ceremony, get two small area rugs and place them a foot or so apart. Stand at the edge of one rug facing the second rug, and imagine you’re standing at the top of a tall cliff, feeling the fear of how terrifying it would be to fall into the gorge between the two rugs. Then steel your courage and take the step across the chasm, feeling the relief of arriving safely on the other side and the pride of having the courage to take that step.

Cleansing Self-Massage

Self-massage can be a fabulous act of self-care, as well as a wonderful cleansing ritual. Massage connects you to the body and allows you to tap into pressure points that can release negative energy. When you use essential oils in your self-massage, you can bring even more healing and power to the ritual.

Begin your self-massage by focusing in on any specific areas that are causing you pain. Mix some lavender, eucalyptus, or bergamot oil with a carrier oil and gently begin to massage this mixture into the area of tension and pain. Use long, slow movements, applying gentle pressure and keeping your breathing slow and intentional.

Cleansing Bath

A bath can be another self-care ritual that can also cleanse your energy. The warm water of a bath is great for relaxing the muscles, and there’s a natural meditative state that automatically comes with bath time. As with the self-massage, essential oils play an important role in a cleansing bath.

As you run your bath water, take time to meditate and reconnect with your body and your breath. Once the bath is full, sprinkle a few drops of essential oil over the surface of the water; lavender, bergamot, and eucalyptus are all excellent options. As you sink into the bath, focus on letting all negativity flow out of you and into the purifying water of the bath.

Crystal Ritual

Crystals can be powerful forces for positivity and good in our lives. Certain crystalline structures resonate with specific energies in the universe and can bring those energies into your home and body. Using crystals to cleanse your energy can dispel negativity from your life and bring more light into your spirit.

Visit your local new age store and get some high-vibrational crystals. Quartz, selenite, and black tourmaline are all excellent options, as they are powerful cleansers and can absorb or dispel negative energy. When you feel negativity weighing down on you, pass these crystals across your body, allowing that dark energy to flow out of you and into the crystal.

Hope Altar

Sometimes, having a physical reminder of your positive intentions for your life can be a powerful source of good energy in your life. Creating a hope altar can help to dispel sadness and despair from your life and bring your energies back into balance. You can use this altar as a meditation focus or simply touch back in with it throughout the day.

Pick an item that represents a hope for your life, whether that be physical, emotional, spiritual, or practical. This item could be a plant, a feather, a crystal, a book, a talisman, or simply a token from a beloved place or friend. As you set each item on your altar, focus on the joy and positivity it brings you, and say out loud, “I have hope.”

Regret Cleansing Ceremony

We all carry regrets, but the weight of them can drag down our lives and make us miserable. You need to free yourself from regret, and one great way to do that is with a cleansing ceremony. All you’ll need for this ceremony is a pencil, paper, a fire-safe metal dish, and matches.

Write down all the regrets that are weighing on you; include any guilt you’re carrying, unkind words you wish you hadn’t said, or harmful thoughts you’ve allowed to impact you. Once you’ve written it all out, set your list in the dish and carefully light it on fire. As you watch the paper burn and the smoke rise, feel the regrets burning away from your heart and your spirit lifting with the smoke.

The Ho’Oponopono: The Ancient Rite of Forgiveness

Do you ever get the unshakable feeling of being unwanted or unwelcome around specific people or in a certain environment? Do you ever avoid attending certain events or being around a select group of people because there is “bad blood?” Whether you are at the center of these negative feelings or removed by a degree or two, the effects of grudges and unforgiveness are strong, widespread, and life-changing.

In an unsavory situation such as this, everyone involved can own up to some responsibility. You might have been the one who made the first mistake and then was shunned. You might be the one shunning. Either way, both parties are perpetuating the issue by not taking responsibility for their actions. With both parties unwilling to confront the issue, grudges and negative feelings can last a lifetime and lead to many missed opportunities and ruined experiences.

If you are ready to take control of your side of the situation, it’s time to learn from the masters of forgiveness. Whether or not the other side is ready or willing to move on, you can begin practicing Ho’Oponopono, the ancient Hawaiin rite of forgiveness.

What is Ho’Oponopono?

In Hawaii, “Ho’Oponopono” means “to make things right” or to “move things back into balance.” Unlike other understandings of “making things right,” this ancient ritual is focused on the self and introspection. Many people might think that confrontation with the other party and working things out verbally is the only way to reach forgiveness, but the Hawaiians believe that self-love is at the center of life’s balance in this ritual.

Without any intervention or knowledge of the other party, you can practice Ho’Oponopono by yourself. This ritual cleanses the body of all those negative feelings left over by unfortunate events and helps you to rid yourself of your guilt. This ritual is especially powerful for those who need to forgive themselves, even if the only wrong they committed was to themselves.

How Do I Do the Ho’Oponopono Ritual?

Forgiveness can seem extremely complicated, but the beauty of the Ho’Oponopono ritual is that it’s simple. The ritual is a manta made of four phrases that you can repeat to yourself as much as you need, as often as you need to. Find comfort in a still position, and close your eyes. If you think you need more confrontation with yourself, I like to look at myself in the mirror! Do what you’re comfortable with and go at your own pace.

The next step is to really visualize who you need forgiveness from. If you have wronged someone a long time ago, it’s time to confront them in your mind. You might never be able to face them again, but this ritual will allow you to ask for that forgiveness, and on some level, that person will feel the effects of this powerful ritual, too. If you need forgiveness from yourself, this ritual is an extremely powerful way to begin that healing process and jumpstart your journey towards wholeness and gentle self-love.

When you’re ready, repeat this mantra:

“I love you. I’m sorry. Please Forgive me. Thank you.”

This mantra might come in different forms for different people. If you are struggling to forgive yourself because you don’t have any self-love, it’s important to begin this ritual with “I love you.” Make sure you say it over and over until you start to feel its effects. Make sure you really mean each phrase as you say it.

For others, saying “I’m sorry” might be the biggest struggle. Having a hard time admitting guilt is common, so focusing on “I’m sorry” first could be most important. It is only by breaking down the first wall that we can continue to the next.

Repeating this mantra will help you dive deeper into the meaning of the mantra and slowly cleanse yourself of the guilt and pain. Now, you can begin to heal.

Benefits of the Ho’Oponopono Ritual

Beyond getting past an awkward or unfortunate mistake in the past is just one reason why you should practice the ancient rite of forgiveness. There are so many benefits to performing frequent forgiveness rituals that even fairly content and healthy people should still consider trying Ho’Oponopono!

Self-Love

At the center of this ancient Hawaiin rite of forgiveness is self-love. Learning to love yourself is the first step of many aspects of your life’s journey. Without self-love, every effort and action you take is rooted in hurt and a misunderstanding of yourself. You won’t ever get to know your needs or embrace your true self. How can you ever reach your goals and enjoy life without first discovering and loving yourself?

Sitting quietly in reflection or staring yourself in the face while repeating these mantras can help you delve into yourself and begin breaking down walls. Extend yourself an embrace and accept every edge and corner. By being more loving to yourself, you can also more fully give of yourself to others.

Letting Go of the Past

Many of us live in our past. We think too much about where we’ve been, what we’ve done, and who we’ve met along the way. Because of this, we are creatures of habit and tend to sulk in the darker corners of our minds. We struggle to break the chains of past faults and broken relationships.

Forgiveness requires us to let go of the past, and ultimately, the past doesn’t exist! The past is made up of our memories, many of them faulty and distorted due to our emotions and perceptions. The sooner we accept that the past doesn’t exist and cannot come back to do us any more harm, the sooner we can move on from our guilt and negative experiences.

Improve Mindfulness

Mantras and meditation of any kind are wonderful ways to improve our mindfulness. Not only does Ho’Oponopono help us to forgive ourselves and move on from the past, but it helps us to better root ourselves in the present. Making a point to set an alarm or stop to reflect each day pulls us from our busy routines and forces us to live in the present. The Ho’Oponopono ritual forces us to reflect on ourselves and be with ourselves in the now.

While we’re practicing this ancient ritual, we’re also given the opportunity to check in with ourselves. How do we feel when we tell ourselves “I love you” or “I’m sorry?” Are we uncomfortable, squirmy, unable to make eye contact without ourselves?

How about asking ourselves for forgiveness? Do we feel ready for forgiveness?

Ask all these questions throughout your forgiveness journey so that you can track your progress and understand where you’re at in your development.

Beyond Covid: A Chance for Spiritual Renewal, New Identities & Rebirth

When the earth is sick, sickness spreads in ways that affect people. In this case, we have been treating Mother Earth poorly for so long, She is acting out our own projections, abuse, and anger. Covid-19 is exactly that.

The coronavirus has been around for a long while now. It’s had an indelible impact on our lives and world. This pandemic sent friends and family members to the hospital at record numbers. However, as with every other terrible event or situation, humanity will pick up the pieces and emerge ready for change.

What will most likely not change very much is how we abuse the planet. Sadly, most Republican and right-wing conservatives, and their counterpart governments, might have a wonderful handle on fiscal responsibility and infrastructure management, but they do not understand emotions, love, and how connected we are to all of the elements, planets, bugs, bunnies, each other – and the myriad of etherial realms. C’est la vie!

In the meantime, you can love yourself by loving the planet.

You can love others by first loving yourself.

And you can effect changes that improve your life, attitude, perspective, and conditions.

Are you ready for that life-changing transformation?

If the planet has left you isolated or emotionally and spiritually strung out, you can choose to pursue peace and balance.  

Declare this out loud: It’s time for me to have a lovely spiritual renewal. It’s time for me to accept, own, and celebrate my life. I will make changes and invite new light and love into my life!

COVID: The Affect on Our Spirit

The coronavirus is certainly a physical ailment, but the effects reverberate beyond just the physical body.

For many of us, this was our first experience with a widespread infectious disease – one that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. Amid all this, we’ve all had no firm reassurances from the medical community on the illness or treatments.

Some of us took the vaccine and it harmed our health. Others ignored protocol and were selfish – and chose to avoid the vaccine – becoming harmful petri dishes that put everyone else’s lives in jeopardy. 

While governments and health organizations were rightfully keeping an eye on the numbers of infections, hospitalizations, and casualties, much fewer eyes were on the numbers of mental ailments resulting from the stress, uncertainty, and isolation. 

Statistics have revealed increased drug use, suicide rate, and other concerning issues surrounding wellness.

Thoughts of suicide and symptoms of anxiety and depression were on the rise, especially among health care workers.

The Kaiser Family Foundation reported global adverse mental health effects such as disturbed sleep, abnormal eating behavior, worsening chronic illnesses, and increased alcohol consumption. With an already worrying mental health crisis sweeping the world, COVID-19 was the last straw for many still struggling to function in their daily lives.

Luckily all of these things are improving! 

Spiritual and emotional ailments are a reality, pandemic or not. COVID-19 created an opportunity for us to open our eyes to the severity of the crisis and the lack of connection within ourselves.

As we all stood still amid lockdowns that kept us frozen in our homes, we were suddenly forced to reassess the states of our minds and spirits without the distractions of our regular routines.

The pandemic will always be an event we remember as one of the lowest points for our planet, but we can look forward in a positive light.

Beyond Covid, we have a chance to be reborn. We can reinvent ourselves, explore new identities, and heal our spirits.

An Opportunity for Spiritual Renewal

In every dark and low moment of our lives, we have a choice. We can wallow in the pain and find comfort in unhealthy habits, or we can seek transformational experiences big and small that will help us cope and climb out of the darkness.

These transformational experiences will be different for everyone.

You’ll find ancient ceremonies, lovely prayers, and encouragement that you might find helpful during times of change and transition. Taking on a New Identity

Amid a spiritual renewal, we don’t need to change our appearance or behavior inauthentically. Instead, we need to dig deeper within ourselves to find what lives within us. Times like these can inspire us to make a firm commitment to becoming more in line with our authentic Selves

You may have recently realized that you’ve never been your true self. Maybe you’ve put on a mask or followed certain socially-acceptable behaviors under the guise of a false identity for a fair portion of your life. Realizing this and committing to a new life with an authentic identity can feel challenging but – on the other side of it – it can be wonderfully freeing.

Following this path requires that we be truly bold and courageous. To find our true Selves and commit to a life of honesty and freedom is the ultimate journey.

A choice like this might require that you try on a few different hats–so to speak–before you find one in which you’re entirely comfortable. Thankfully, there are so many tools and resources out there to help you on your journey.

Throughout humanity’s existence, there have been divine masters who walked among us and changed the way we saw life and the Cosmos. How To Build Intentional Lives As Empaths


As a coach, clients and friends will often seek my counsel. While each of their challenges appears to be unique, I believe many of the problems, especially the recurring ones, stem from one simple idea: We have yet to release the past, forgive everything, and construct new, durable personas (temporary self-identities) – ones that can establish and sustain an enjoyable, stable life.

Instead of plunging into forward movement, we tend to repeatedly reaffirm the past and go in circles.

We can change this. We can recreate our lives with the purest, clearest, and most focused intentions. Living an intentional life is not for everyone, but it’s the only path to liberation and peace.

Even amid being pummeled by karmic repercussions that stem from prior lives, if we establish a strong and deeply rooted self-concept, we can withstand any storm.

Let’s Dive In, Empaths!

From the moments of our births, we begin to build temporary self-identities or personas to maneuver through our lives. These personas are most often born from outdated beliefs, confused family dogma, codependent social paradigms, and limiting religious doctrine. Along the way, we weave guilt, shame, and regret into the fabric of our personas to the point of imprisoning ourselves in loops of repeated behaviors, decisions, and addictions.

Because of this, most of us live as if we’re strapped to rollercoasters, whereby we continuously react to external stimuli as if we have no control. In the short term, we enjoy the results of our impulses. In the long term, we find ourselves in complex situations that erode our senses of Self and peace.

Over time, consequences and complications emerge. We cope, medicate, and try to assemble a quick-fix response to it all. 

We try everything but eventually find that quick fixes do little to address the deeper issues. We look at every aspect of our lives and realize that our marriages, jobs, and environments are not aligned with who we know ourselves to be. 

In a moment, we understand that we are not self-aware, and therefore, we are not free.

This is the moment of decision. 

Do we continue to shrink and hide or do we choose the road less traveled, finally embracing our true Self as beautiful empaths?

If we choose the latter, we begin to wake up!

We soon feel or sense deep-seated emotions and regrets. We might feel anxious or panicked, feeling unable to source remedies. We finally see the weight that we’ve amassed atop our souls. We remember the stories and justifications we used to keep our outdated personas in charge and in motion for so long.

In a pure moment of delight, we decide enough is enough!

Intentional Spiritual Living is a decision and commitment of the mind and heart to live a fully conscious, pre-meditated life according to our deepest values, ethics, and beliefs, without story or excuse. 

We build an intentional life through self-inquiry, ritual, ceremony, and forgiveness. We own and acknowledge every aspect of our choices amid our tumultuous lives. We own it all – from every teensie bit of minutia to every decision we’ve made.

Empaths! We take responsibility for EVERYTHING. 

We blame NO ONE.

Beginning an intentional life often comes with a year or more of crying a few hours every day. It requires complete transparency with our core Self, God, and the eternal consciousness. We can no longer hide. We refuse to hide. We are now on a mission to unearth every truth about ourselves and the nature of the Universe.

We begin to imagine a new persona, one that is built upon virtue, transparency, vulnerability, and truth. We no longer carry regret or shame. We no longer blame. We own it all – every molecule of every instant.

We process it all, pounding the earth in anger and crying for every lost moment. We cry to God and the Universe to nurture and save us. We do this until we are drained of all projection, attitude, and ego. We realize we know nothing and we are nothing. 

From there, we build our new, more durable, more holy persona – not from the rubble, rather, from the truths we’ve uncovered and become.

We grow our personas into emotionally, psychologically, and financially stable warriors – through whatever means. With meditation, mantra, and Divine grace, we begin to strengthen and stabilize. 

We continually release emotions, attachments, and the past.

After some time, we realize that we’ve become warriors of self-care, self-responsibility, and self-awareness. 

Having built an intentional spiritual persona, we can now build an intentional spiritual life.

How Do We Do This as Empaths?

      • We are careful welcoming people into our lives
      • With a new friend, we are careful when choosing to engage in sex. While sex is certainly wonderful, it can be distracting and harmful. Get to know your friends before jumping into bed with them.
      • We are careful before solidifying a marriage. According to the rishis, it is best to know and live with someone for 3 years prior to committing to a marriage.
      • We carefully research and plan job and home changes
      • We don’t “jump” into anything, instead, we pause, reflect, and consider
      • We refrain from feeding our addictions
      • Less screen time and more prayer time, like letter-writing
      • We pray as often as we can
      • We continuously have faith hope
      • We forgive everything
      • We own everything
      • We do not dwell on our negative feelings
      • We remember that we are never a victim
      • We work to completely dissolve our egos
      • We choose our food carefully (organic, grass-fed, no chemicals, lots of greens and vegetables)
      • When we are able, we strive to find the balance between western medicine and naturopathic medicine, knowing that pure food is our best medicine
      • We realize our thoughts sustain us, so we choose them carefully
      • We learn to place our attention on aspects that truly serve and uplift us because we know what we contemplate is what we become. Mediate on the rose and you become the rose.
      • We realize that our self-esteem can only come from ourselves
      • We decide to be happy because happiness is a choice
      • We say goodbye to people and events that do not serve our liberation and peacefulness
      • We say goodbye to deep attachments, except GOD & THE DIVINE
      • We have boundaries
      • We only speak lovingly about ourselves
      • We stop all projection
      • We maintain a healing attitude
      • We find ways to selflessly love and serve others while also not hurting ourselves
      • We root ourselves in self-inquiry, honesty, and love
      • You might enjoy releasing processes and modalities like The Sedona Method (search it, it’s awesome)
      • When we’re ready, we can seek out living enlightened masters like Amma, Karunamayi Ma, and Mother Meera
        • We can ask to receive a mantra from one of them
        • We can ask Her to be our guru or spiritual master which can expedite our pathway to liberation.
      • If we feel so inclined, we honor the purest and most non-judgmental tenets of our birth religions
      • We enjoy our fellow empath birth masters, including Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad, and others

IN ALL THINGS, PLEASE KNOW …

You are more than you realize. You have resources far beyond your wildest imagination. It’s time to commit to a more eternal game. It’s time to release it all and become your most vibrant, eternal, and empowered Self. SURrender!

How to Make the World Lovelier

You are the embodiment of love and light.

Your heart is far bigger and far more expressive than you might realize.

You have stardust in your bones. You’re on a rock that’s spinning thousands of miles an hour, and somehow you have a refrigerator, phone, and loved ones.

If you’re looking to make the world lovelier, that’s just amazing. Let’s explore how!

1. REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE A MIRACLE!

It might be challenging to stay positive when bombarded by news, gossip, and social media. It’s time to take a deep breath! Exhale the negativity. Infuse your mindset with warm and positive light. Want to make the world lovelier? YOU GOT THIS!

To fully embrace your depth of light and love, decide to help the world become a lovelier place to live, both for yourself and those around you!

Are you having difficulty digging yourself out of a rut and don’t know where to begin?

Looking to shed layers of ego and self-abuse so you can feel and affirm your value and divine gifts?

This list will help you nurture and server the world. Every time you roll out of bed, commit to at least one of these things – and you’ll become an even brighter beacon of light.

2. Share Your Positivity to Others

Positivity is contagious! If you encounter other people today, whether they are friends, family, or strangers, you can be sure that they need a positivity boost.

Intentionally share your positive energy and outlook with them by helping them see things in a better light.

Happily share your warm, loving presence.

Whether it’s a hug, a phrase, or just a sweet smile, we always have the ability to add goodness and make the world lovelier with incredible power. 

3. Learn To Listen With Empathy

Are some of the people around you in the middle of a chaotic or challenging situation? Is someone you know hurt, confused, or frustrated? If you love them, do you feel you can help them by lending an ear?

If you can, lend these loved-ones a few minutes out of your day. Listen to them with your heart and help them approach their feelings from a new perspective.

Your loving attention can be life-changing for them. When you help and pray for others, the Universe does the same for us.

For an extra spiritual boon, try to inspire them to pray, meditate, or forgive someone near and dear to them. 

4. Nurture Yourself So You Can Be A Vibrant Light

When we heal ourselves, we send healing vibrations out to the entire Cosmos. Even a subtle shift in our mind and heart can inspire other Living Beings throughout All The Worlds to do the same.

When you deepen or self-acknowledge, you open doors for every soul to transform and transcend their challenges and ego into bright bursts of light.

If you’re finding it challenging to share your goodness with others, you might need a positivity boost, spiritual ceremony, or healing ritual. You might just need to journal and cry. 

Evaluating and attending your own needs first means that you want to practice what you preach. Start your day with prayer and meditation so that you can align your spirit with love and expand yourself.

5. Practice Forgiveness

For many people, forgiveness is a mystery. In many religions, it’s become a cliche catch-phrase that most people don’t truly understand.

You can forget someone, but truly forgiving someone requires some effort. To start, open your heart and owning every lesson that you needed to learn from that person or event. Once you own all of your part in these experiences and relationships, you can begin to grow. With a little growth, you can more easily release what you feel is an infringement on you and your life.

Forgiveness is acknowledging that you are a Divine Being and that no one is responsible for your happiness. You are the only one in every intersection. There is no OTHER.

When we fuel our negativity and hold grudges, we are delaying our personal growth and spiritual expansion. When we identify as a victim, we are telling God, “hey, you fucked up.” God did not fuck up. You had an experience and you are denying the deeper lessons and holding onto the past.

The past does not exist. It’s a canceled check. It’s gone.

You cannot resurrect the past.

Since everything has changed, why have you not changed?

The most advanced path to world peace and love is learning forgiveness and practicing it in our daily lives. Forgiveness is the key to making the world a lovelier place for ourselves and humanity.

The Steps To Forgiveness

One: Acknowledge the real-world cost of the experience and your pain.

Two: Own your challenges and shortcomings.

Three: Acknowledge what you need to learn.

Four: Accept those who harmed us as perfect.

Five: Accept that our experiences as perfect.

Six: Ask God/Universe/Divine-Mother to awaken us to our own power to become whole.

Seven: Allow yourself to feel into the pain until it’s unbearable. Notice the pain the body and related pains in your heart, nerves, and mind.

Eight: Accept this pain, own it, love it, and honor it. Speak it’s name. Shout to heavens and celebrate its existence. This is your doorway to transcendence.

Nine: Now – release it all – again and again and again – release ALL OF IT.

Ten: If you have not struck a chord aligned with forgiveness, begin this process again – and repeat it until you arrive at forgiveness.

Take the time to sit with yourself and go through this process being fully vulnerable and open.

6. Offer Healing And Selfless Gifts

Is there someone specific in your life right now who is experiencing spiritual and emotional turmoil? As a loving friend, I bet they would love your support. A great way to help others is to surprise them with healing gifts!

Are they in need of spiritual renewal and self-discovery? There are tons of gift choices, big and small, which can help them on this journey. You might consider gifting them crystals, chakra energy jewelry, self-care gift baskets, or even self-development courses. And there’s always my beautiful Personality Cards!

If they’re more receptive to self-help books, gift them a set of self-renewal and spirituality books like The Power Of Now or A Course In Miracles. You can find some lovely spiritually healing books by Amma at Amma.org.

If they’re looking to get more in touch with their mystical self, you can offer them courses in intuition, rituals, and tarot readings

You can also gift someone a massage or you can be their masseuse!

7. Do Favors & Perform Small Acts of Kindness

While the former recommendations require forethought, more extended periods of effort, and sometimes money, there are many quick, easy, and free ways to improve the world. There are millions of opportunities every day to do the little things that make a huge difference, even if you never leave the house!

Acts of kindness, and every other altruistic and self-developing practice, require a layer of sacrifice. All kinds of belief systems, religions, and lifestyles rely on selfless service as a way to clear the heart, align one’s spirit with love & light, and truly help others.

What can you do today to share your time and energy in service to others?

Is it someone’s birthday that you haven’t spoken to in a while? Send them an email or text message, and consider striking up a conversation to learn about how they’re doing.

Is there someone that seems lonely, bored, or in need of friendship? Set up a meet over coffee, food, or some other mutual activity that they can look forward to and enjoy.

Do you notice someone that usually gets left out or ignored? Go out of your way to throw them a party on a special day, invite them to events, and engage them in conversation regularly.

Buy a drink or pay for the groceries for the person behind you.

Endeavor to pick up something when dropped by another.

Tell a stranger that God loves them.

When you like someone’s outfit or hair, share the compliment aloud. 

At the very least, show a smile! Smiling is proven to be contagious and uplifting for our moods, even if it’s intentional or forced! Smiling is the most significant small act of kindness you can offer. It can truly make the world a lovelier place to be.

8. Share Some Love When Traveling

When we travel, even if only to a restaurant, store, or to grab a quick bite, there are multitudes of things we can do to improve the conditions and feelings of others. Try a few of these on for size:

Give a humungous tip to someone who appears a little sad or broken – or who is working hard.

Carry small gifts in your car to share with others, a box of Kleenex packets, crayons, and chocolates. When you see someone like a fast-food check-out person who looks a little grumpy, give them a gift!

Carry used clothes, bottles of water, and single dollar bills in your car just in case you see a homeless person who needs some love.

When staying in a hotel, remember to leave at least a $5 tip for each night you stayed in the hotel – and add a loving note to brighten someone’s day! You might even clean the room a little bit by prepping your sheets and towels in easily portable piles. You might also pour all of the trash buckets into one bucket and place it near the door.

Buy a stranger a meal by giving the server some cash. This way they cannot find you to return the favor – which makes it part of the fun.

Help others at airports, especially in security lines! Take your time, make sure those around you know what they’re doing. Ask if you can help them. When you move through the machines, tell the security personnel that you appreciate them.

Clean up public bathrooms to make it more palatable for others. I always wipe off toilet seats and pick up the trash on the floor so that others might feel less uncomfortable when entering.

If you’re feeling naughty, write a little graffiti on the bathroom wall, like, I LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! AND SO DOES GOD! You can also remove the paintings in hotel rooms and write loving messages on the back. Yes, these things are naughty, but they’re loving and fun!

Make eye contact with everyone you meet, especially those who are clearly working their butts off.

WHAT IS BREATHARIANISM? OH MY!

When we list the things humans need to survive, most of us come down to three basic requirements: food, water, and shelter. But there’s a movement that claims two of those three things are holding us back.

Some of the most extreme Breatharians claim to survive off of the life energy of the universe alone, no food or water involved. Others who believe themselves to be One With The Breath appear to drink water and snack once in a while – and somehow remain healthy. 

One might wonder which of these Breath devotees are telling the truth – and which ones are projecting an image that no human could ever embody.

Is it possible to go months or years without eating or drinking?

Do Breatharians really exist?

If so, how have they managed to defy the basic scientific principles we thought we understood?

Read on to learn more about this practice and whether it actually allows people to subsist on something loftier than mere food.

What Is Breatharianism?

Breatharianism is the practice of going without food, water, or both and, instead, living from the life energy of the Universe. As the name suggests, Breatharianism uses the breath to harness this energy and nourish the body. Breatharians claim to exist only on air and sunlight, foregoing food (and sometimes water) altogether, sometimes for years at a time.

While Breatharianism is a reboot of the ancient Yogic practice, today’s New-Age Breatharianism birthed in the mid-90s, thanks in part to the work of a woman born Ellen Greve, who has since changed her name to Jasmuheen.

Our friend Jasmuheen wrote a book called Living on Light: The Source of Nourishment for the New Millennium. This book describes a twenty-one-day process that will supposedly help your body adjust to surviving only on air.

While the new-age scene has bastardized this practice, which was established by serious-ass Yogis thousands of years ago, it takes a truly Divine Master or Enlightened Being to be a totes-for-reals Breatharian.

Even Masters like Amma, who eat very little, tend to stay away from using phrases like Breatharian because it’s a dangerous practice – and it’s only meant for people who arrive at some version of Breatharianism naturally – ya know, like because of deep spiritual practices which can result in liberation – a state that is very rare.

How Does Breatharianism Work?

If breatharians aren’t getting their nourishment from food and/or water, where does it come from? Breatharians claim to fuel their body with prana, a kind of life-energy emitted by the Universe itself.

Prana is the Sanskrit word for breath. It points to the substratum and eternal substance that permeates reality throughout every level and realm, including inanimate objects. In other words, Prana is the source of all life built into all aspects of living and non-living realities.

Breatharians claim to be able to harness this energy through intense breathing exercises that connect them with this life-energy. Pranic breathing is an empowering and cleansing practice found in most yoga classes and other spiritual disciplines. 

Pranic breathing is usually performed by sitting in the lotus position, breathing into your stomach and exhaling, all through the mouth or all through the nose – and sometimes only one nostril. The pace of this style of breathing is often very fast with truncated exhales. Pranic breathing can certainly feed you for a time. It can also clear emotions and help you feel more alive and rejuvenated at a core level.

There are centuries of evidence showing the benefits of breathing exercises and meditation. Meditation and breathing can allow us to connect better with our own inner life force, the Universe, other people, and our own bodies.

The challenge with Breatharianism is that proponents claim that these practices can replace food and water. While this might be true for advanced souls, chances are pretty high that Bunny McStretchypants, who teaches beer yoga at the local gym, and Trendy Taj McKrishna, who drinks his own urine at parties, are probably not real Breatharians.

Folks like these are most often hopped-up on new-age narcissism while pretending to be the real deal, when in reality, they can barely manifest enough money to pay their electric bills. 

What is the Breatharianism Diet

On its face, the Breatharian diet seems simple: don’t eat food or drink water, ever. But when you dive into the practice, you’ll discover it’s much more complicated.

There are two basic steps to the breatharian diet: the initiation and the long-term plan. And there are two styles of Breatharians: crazy people who think they can do it forever and reasonable people who know they probably can’t do it for very long. Both types tend to eat once in a while – and most Breatharians drink water regularly.

Many of today’s Breatharian programs recommend starting with an initiation period of fasting. Fasting  gets your body jump-started into surviving off of nourishment other than food. In some protocols, this initial fasting period, during which you drink either only some or no water and eat no or very little food, lasts seven to ten days. Other programs only require you to go three days without any nourishment.

After the initial fasting period, Breatharians recommend that you move to a liquid diet. This consists mostly of fruit and vegetable juices and broths. Some wanna-bees will drink lemon water with cayenne pepper to slowly shut down their digestive systems.

Many Breatharians say they eat every now and then, either in social situations or because they want to enjoy the sensation of eating food. However, a handful of Breatharian leaders claim to go for months or years without eating anything at all. 

While this may or may not be true, it’s certainly fascinating! I have to mention here – um, please do not try this at home!

Breatharianism Doesn’t Work

Now that we know about Breatharianism and its principles, let’s get right down to the facts – it doesn’t work for 99.9999% of those who claim it as a lifestyle.

The simple truth is that the overwhelming majority of humans, aliens, and wandering spirits need food to live. More importantly, you can’t go more than a few days at a time without drinking water before your body begins to shut down. 

There’s no denying that our culture often tends to overindulge in food, and many people have unhealthy relationships with food. As we’ll discuss more later, there are some potential benefits to using breathing exercises and meditation as a way to improve your relationship with food. But the basic tenet of Breatharianism – that humans can live without food and water – has no basis in fact or science, except the occasional Enlightened Master who probably doesn’t need to promote their adherence to this practice. 

And any Enlightened Master worth their salt will probably want a cookie now and again, because cookies were made by God to make our inner-children smile. So there.

Breatharian Deaths

One of the problems with Breatharianism as a practice is that it can be very dangerous. So far, there have been five known deaths connected with Breatharian practices. The most recent death was in 2012, but the best-known was an incident in 1999 in which a woman died of dehydration and hypothermia after practicing the program described in Living on Light.

In most cases, people don’t die of starvation as a result of Breatharianism, but rather as a result of dehydration. Doctors estimate that you can only go for less than a week without water before you die of dehydration. After that point, your organs begin shutting down, your blood gets thicker, toxins build up in your body, and eventually you die. Good times!

Breatharian Leaders Eat

When you start looking closely at Breatharian leaders and the programs they claim to follow, one fact emerges: Breatharian leaders eat. They may make sweeping statements about going months or years without consuming any food. But when you start asking for details, a number of inconsistencies tend to show up.

Some Breatharian leaders admit to regularly drinking vegetable broth or fruit juice, as well as eating in social situations. Although these amounts of food may be much less than what most people consume, it’s definitely a source of nutrition other than sunlight and prana. A few Breatharian leaders have even been caught ordering in-flight meals or with whole refrigerators full of food. 

The Cost of Breatharian Retreats

In addition to being physically dangerous, some might say that Breatharianism classes and retreats are outright scams. Breatharian leaders tell their followers to go long periods of time without eating or drinking, all the while they are regularly eating food. Meanwhile, they’re raking in thousands of dollars in profits from retreats and coaching fees.

Why are they making so much money? Because New-Agers are knuckleheads. They believe trends will save them from themselves. Yeah, it doesn’t work that way.

They way it works is this: chant, pray, eat healthy, forgive, accept, release – and repeat. It’s not complicated.

Many Breatharian retreats, which are designed to get you started on the fasting program, cost more than $1,000. One-on-one coaching sessions can cost $75 an hour or more, depending on who you see. The simple fact is that too many New-Age trendsetter phonies make an insanely lucrative living off of selling dangerous lies.

Using Breath for Food Control

Although the Breatharian fasting program is dangerous, there are some helpful ideas we can take from it. Many people in our society have unhealthy relationships with food, including overeating and, in many ways, being addicted to food. We have to eat food to live, but there are definite benefits to being more conscious of what we eat and how we consume it.

Mindful eating is a helpful practice that uses meditative practices to help control food intake. You may find that using breathing exercises can be a great way to curb food cravings in times when you’re trying to cut back.

Breathing can be a great way to build a healthier relationship with food, but you have to be sure you’re managing your diet in a safe, healthy way. 

Do Breatharians Exist?

It would be easy to say that Breatharians do not exist. I’ve personally met a few Enlightened Masters who I never saw eat. And if you’re a real Breatharian or spiritual master, you’re probably not running around with a trendy book telling everybody to try it. Why? Because elevating ourselves through the most intense spiritual practices is f*cking painful – and not for everybody. 

While most of us cannot survive on life-energy alone, breathing and meditation can build healthier relationships with food and our inner Beings.
