The digital age, with its emphasis on social media validation, information overload, and the commodification of attention, can lead us further away from the authentic self and the essence of Dharma—living in harmony with the universal truths.

What’s the Difference Between Oracle Cards and Tarot Cards?

Not many people inexperienced with divination realize that oracle card decks and tarot card decks are two very different things. While tarot cards have been around for centuries — some say originating in the 1500s — oracle cards were a more recent invention that came about when tarot cards started to lose popularity. Now, both have found their revival in the Hippie and New Age Movements of the 1900s and are often used side-by-side in divination practice.

Tarot cards are much more structured and follow specific standard rules. They derive from the playing cards used as early as the 1300s that we still recognize today — the 52-card deck made of 4 suits and numbered cards that we play and gamble with. Tarot cards now have kept their structure but look different than playing cards. They have their own imagery originating in mythology and religious icons, and while they are still numbered and suited, the suits and numbers are quite different.

Oracle cards, on the other hand, are much more free-spirited. There are no real standards to the number of cards in the deck, suits, or imagery used. There are also no set rules across the board for how to interpret the cards. While any tarot card deck can be picked up and read effectively by anyone, each oracle card deck comes with its own guidebook that teaches you how to read it.

Choosing Tarot Cards, Oracle Cards, or Both

Some people involved in divination prefer one kind of deck over the other. Some choose to use both. Tarot cards have a very specific structure and standard rules, so they often help with much more detailed readings that users feel comfortable entrusting their goals with. Oracle cards can be much more interpretive, as users can soul search for the correct deck that fits their personalities and needs, and provide more big ideas and bird’s-eye-view readings than tarot cards.

For example, someone looking to have a very positive, good vibe experience with readings might choose an oracle deck that guides the user through more optimistic readings. The Difference Between Living A Spiritually-Styled Life And Focusing On Enlightenment

Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi) is an enlightened master with ashrams around the world, based in Kerala, India and San Ramon, CA. She has the largest humanitarian mission in human history and is known as a guru, with millions of followers and devotees around the world. There has been no soul on Earth with the magnitude of spirit equal to Amma’s, though there are other profound and lovely awakened masters throughout the world (and throughout time).

When I first met Amma (Amma.org) 35 years ago, I didn’t know what to think or feel. I saw her in a tiny box of a room in the basement of the African-Methodist Christian Church in Central Square, Cambridge, MA. 

Among seven other people and her two swamis, and upon feeling her immense and stunning inner beauty, I unknowingly fell into a prostrate position and cried most of the day in the corner. 

Amma eventually gave me darshan, her divine and loving and Selfless blessing, which, back in those days, was more like a fullbody massage and cuddling. It lasted 20 minutes and I was high for a decade. 

Of course, throughout the years, I continued to go back for more. And more, and more, and more. And then some more. And then, well, a lot more.

Amma awakened me to living a pure life, which took me quite some time to adopt. She provoked in me many questions about the ego and Self. Later, Amma would ask me to open for her at a variety of her retreats with my playful take on spirituality and the new-age. She said it would be helpful to break people’s obsessions with the mind and open their hearts to more joy and bliss. I did whatever She asked of me – and still do.

We are not required to seek enlightenment – liberation from Samsara (the cycles of birth, life, death, rebirth, and desires). The path of Self-realization is a choice. No one is pushing us to pursue liberation (Moksha). We either deeply desire it, or we do not. 

When we choose the path to enlightenment, we slowly begin to realize that our bodies, minds, thoughts, emotions, experiences, and conditions have little to do with our pure, divine Selves. And we can access this divine Self through a variety of spiritual practices (Sadhana).

We seek liberation because we understand that our personalities, comfort, desires, and projections are illusion, temporary to this life at best. We seek a deeper understanding of The Divine and the divinity embedded within us. In liberation, we are free from the desires and resulting suffering, and we embody a pure love and light as an offering to the world.

What’s The Difference?

What then is the difference between choosing to live a lovely and spiritually-styled life and living a life focused on enlightenment (Self-realization, liberation from Samsara)?

These two lifestyles are related but distinct approaches to one’s spiritual journey. It’s a personal choice and it depends on what we believe about this life and this reality. We might desire spiritual comfort over illumination and we might believe that our lives are meant for a spiritually-styled experience. These, too, are choices.

“Self-realization is the knowing in all parts of body, mind, and soul that you are now in possession of the kingdom of God; that you do not have to pray that it come to you; that God’s omnipresence is your omnipresence; and that all that you need to do is improve your knowing.” — Paramahansa Yogananda

Both paths involve a commitment to growth and Self-awareness, but they have different objectives. One is focused solely on enjoying light, love, and spiritual interests, while the other is focused on being free of suffering for all time. 

Here’s a breakdown of the differences between the two:

Living a Lovely Spiritually-Styled Life

Emphasis on Wonder and Beauty: A lovely spiritually-styled life places a significant emphasis on experiencing and savoring the beauty and wonder of life in its everyday moments. It values the comfort and seeks spiritual meaning in daily experiences, relationships, and the natural world. While meaning appears vital, most of what we determine to be meaningful and comforting is fleeting.

Connection and Love: This approach prioritizes cultivating love and connection with the Self, others, and The Universe through imagination and projection. It often involves practices that promote empathy, kindness, and emotional well-being, while also edifying the person or personality. This style of living requires a focus on thoughts, feelings, emotions, attitudes, and beliefs, rather than seeking to transcend these aspects.

Appreciation of Beauty: Living a lovely spiritual life is characterized by an appreciation of beauty in all its forms, whether it’s in art, nature, music, or human interactions. Finding joy and gratitude in life’s simple pleasures is central to this approach. 

Sharing and Talking: This seeker believes that sharing opinions and ideas with others is helpful to their spiritual evolution. The more they share with others, the more they can form a consensus of what is spiritual and true for them – and what is not. While this is a lovely sentiment, it creates a false sense of Self and reality. It also establishes firm footing for the proliferation of incorrect, inauthentic, and watered-down teachings, akin to a virus. In these circles, the perception of spiritual is not often associated with a pure, transcendent spirituality.

Focus on Validation: This style of living seeks to be validated as an individual having spiritual experiences. This validation often includes being seen and heard, and wanting to be known for doing or being something specific, with a spiritually-styled label, all related to spirituality. While this sounds empowering, it only empowers a false Self, and further separates the seeker from knowing their eternal essence and transcending their mind and ego. 

Fascination with “Spiritual” Experiences: The individual is curious about specific and unusual phenomena, including flashes of light, connection to alien civilizations, ghosts, magic rocks, conspiracies, and psychic abilities, all of which are interesting, though not spiritually illuminating, and not indicative of advancement on the spiritual path. These aspects are the shiny trinkets of the spiritual world, more appropriate for younger people and beginners on the spiritual path. That said, many people cling to these things and defend them as their saviors.

“Spiritual materialism is the belief that a certain temporary state of mind or a certain temporary realization is the final reality. But spiritual materialism is the greatest spiritual problem there is.” — Chögyam Trungpa

Comfort and Warm Feelings Required: To be on this path includes seeking and enjoying specific and warm feelings about the Self and various imagined and non-imagined experiences. There is a focus on achieving comfort. While mind, feelings, and emotions are illusions, these are of primary interest even if it may not seem to be so. If they don’t feel good or comforted, they do not feel “spiritual” or spiritually inclined.

Mindfulness and Presence: Practicing mindfulness and being fully present in each moment is a core aspect of living a lovely spiritual life. But mindfulness is only transcendent when we remove ourselves from the picture. With mind, ego, and persona immersed in our mindfulness, we are attempting to affair the small self rather than dissolve our projections around it. 

Identifying With The Personality: The pursuit often can result in an identification not with The Divine, but with the divinity or divine aspects of their personality and how they present themselves to the world. This involves ego identification with a Self-concept that is distinct or unique compared to others, which is contrary to the path of enlightenment. It might also mean that these seekers ego-identify with socially approved and agreed-upon sets of “spiritual personas.”

There Are No Gurus: These seekers often feel they do not require an enlightened master as their guru, believing they are the master of their lives and that’s good enough. While they might enjoy a spiritual teacher who might be known to be an enlightened master, they will rarely call themselves devotees, and therefore, never experience the humility often required for growth and God’s grace.

Balanced Living: This approach seeks balance and harmony in all aspects of life, including work, relationships, and Self-care. It often encourages practices like yoga, meditation, and conscious living to maintain this balance. 

Challenge

The challenge with this pursuit is the focus on feelings, experiences and projections, which are temporary and imagined. This a never-ending cycle that prevents the soul from transcending the small self and merging with Consciousness. Eventually, a true seeker dissolves all the emotions from the past and all the projections into the future to be fully present to All Reality in every moment.

There is also no spiritual master in this pursuit, which defies the simple required of being humble and present to that which can help us illuminate. Oftentimes, the leaders of this type of path are no more evolved, intentional, or spiritually focused than the students. 

When every idea or thought is considered “wonderful,” the purest teachings might appear too intense or unnecessary to the seeker, and therefore, these are not regularly shared amid their socializing.  

You might say – “Well, I’ve been doing this for a long time, so it must be correct.” Sadly, it is impossible for this to be true. In most cases, people are taught by novices with only slightly more awareness and consciousness than their students. These seekers are also so full of information they prefer to defend, they miss out on the deeper teachings and that which will help them illuminate for all time.

“Enlightenment is not about becoming divine. Instead, it’s about becoming more fully human. It is the end of ignorance.” — Amma

Living a Life Focused on Enlightenment

Emphasis on Self-Realization: A life focused on enlightenment places the primary emphasis on Self-realization and liberation from the cycle of suffering (Samsara). The pursuit of enlightenment is viewed as the ultimate goal of existence by the ancient sages. Those seeking illumination in this way focus on spiritual practices including prayer, meditation, yoga, and chanting in Sanskrit.

Transcendence of Ego: Enlightenment teachings often center on transcending the ego and realizing one’s true nature, beyond all labels, titles, and positions. This is often described as the merging with or becoming pure consciousness – or experiencing oneness with The Divine. This path involves going beyond the limitations of the Self and all aspects of identification with the external. As such, we come to know deeply the true nature of the I and Me, thereby releasing our spiritual identity and other limiting Self-concepts. 

Focus on Solitude and Silence: The enjoyment of silence as an opening to Self-inquiry is a primary focus . Without silence, the soul cannot expand into light.

Intensive Spiritual Practices: Those on the path to enlightenment engage in rigorous spiritual practices such as deep meditation, Self-inquiry, and the release of binding and troubling desires, attachments, thoughts, and emotions. These practices are designed to dissolve the ego and reveal higher states of consciousness, and eventually to become a pure embodiment of love.

Releasing Everything, Including Comfort: On this path there is a focus on releasing emotions, attitudes, beliefs, and comforts in favor of deep clarity, transformation, Self-reliance, and eternal truths taught by the ancient masters. The seeker does not focus on what is trending, what is feeling or comforting, or what they are becoming – they are focused on remembering they are NOTHING. 

Gratitude for Everything: The focus on gratitude dissolves every event and circumstance into a gift from The Divine. Being grateful for both the good and bad equally helps the individual understand the value of challenges and the impermanence or temporary nature of all conditions.

Gurus Are A Must: These seekers often declare themselves devotees or disciples of one specific enlightened master. These masters are often in the Indian lineages found within Hinduism, though there are certainly many devotees to Buddha, Guan Yin, and Jesus (though most followers of Jesus do not transcend the limiting belief that He did not offer the sole path to The Divine. Enlightened spiritual masters throughout spacetime include Amma (Amma.org), Mother Meera, Anandamayi Ma, Paramahansa Yogananda, Babaji, Buddha, Chogyam Trungpa, Thich Naht Hahn, and many others. Whether living or deceased, they are present for all time. 

Seekers in this category are devout to their spiritual masters because they know that to worship the rose is to become the rose. Through this devotion that they learn to transcend their ego. 

The guru drenches the devotees in grace and resolves to help them achieve their goal of enlightenment. This includes presenting devotees with spiritual challenges within their hearts, minds, and dreams, helping them release all that is untrue and illusory so they may merge with and live from their divine natures. 

A truly enlightened master – a REAL guru – is one who finally and forever leads you from darkness and shadows to pure light, ignorance to awareness and presence, and from separation from your divine Self to oneness with all Creation. Devotion to such a divine and illuminated Being is the key to spiritual awakening and Self-realization. Devoting oneself to an enlightened master is akin to taking a supersonic jet to your liberation. Seek these souls out and devote your WHOLE BEING to them.

Moments of Samadhi: Samadhi is a rare and advanced state of consciousness whereby the seeker experiences intended or spontaneous periods of immersion in Divine Bliss. These are often accompanied by extensive sitting around an enlightened master or deeply intentional periods of deep meditation.

Detachment from Worldly Fascinations: Enlightenment seekers typically enjoy detaching from worldly obsessions, desires, and cravings. This detachment is seen as a way to free the mind from suffering and achieve lasting inner peace. It is also a natural evolution for a devotional soul to become less fascinated with the external and more interested in the eternal.

Sole Focus on Liberation: The ultimate objective of a life focused on enlightenment is attaining spiritual liberation (Moksha or Nirvana), though holding too intensely to any goal or desire can be limiting. With a gentle focus and daily practice of Sadhana, the seeker experiences a profound shift in consciousness, often associated with a deep healing and inner transformation. 

Transcend Human Birth: The idea of Moksha includes the next birth, if any, being immersed in service as pure love, rather than as a human being with desires.

Becoming Pure Love: In pursuit of Moksha, the individual prays to be free of all Self-identification and fully immersed in the divine love that permeates all reality throughout spacetime. 

Challenge

The challenge with this path is that it often includes seclusion or separateness from traditional society. It will naturally cause the seeker to make choices that do not support the imagined importance of family, society, and culture. 

While this can induce a deep knowing of the Self and The Divine, eventually freeing the individual from all illusion, it can create feelings of loneliness that manifest in periods of deep depression and continuous crying, all of which eventually lessen, but are nonetheless painful to experience.

This type of seeker might appear antisocial, Self-righteous, or arrogant because they are deeply focused on their goal. They might be so intent on freeing their shadows that they miss out on the beauty of a nearby butterfly sharing her joy with all of Creation.

Enlightened individuals radiate a profound embodiment of love for all beings. By aspiring to be more like them, we eventually become them. This is the idea. 

These divine souls embody a deep desire to alleviate the suffering of All Creation. Through their presence, they become sources of inspiration and who have a transformative impact on the world. As embodiments of love, they emanate divine light to everyone who comes to them.

Samadhi is a significant concept in various Eastern spiritual and philosophical traditions, particularly in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is a profound state of divine absorption, often considered the highest stage of meditation and Divine Bliss, depending on who experiences it. It represents a dissolution of the Self, and a heightened state of divine consciousness. 

Samadhi involves an unwavering and profound concentration on a chosen object of meditation. This concentration is so intense that the meditator becomes completely absorbed in the object, to the point where the sense of Self and external distractions disappear.

It’s also quite possible to experience Samadhi when sitting near an enlightened master. It can also happen when you are immersed in divine play, divine love, or a divine practice.

In Samadhi, the mind is free from the usual fluctuations and distractions that characterize ordinary consciousness. It is a state of perfect stillness and one-pointedness of mind.

Many who experience Samadhi report feelings of intense bliss, joy, and inner peace. It is considered a state of profound happiness and spiritual fulfillment.

Time can take on a different quality in Samadhi. Some practitioners report that minutes or even hours may pass quickly or slowly during this state.

Samadhi represents a direct and profound experience of spiritual truth and liberation. It is a rare and advanced state of consciousness that typically requires years of dedicated meditation practice, guidance from an enlightened master, and a deep understanding of the specific techniques associated with it. The core idea is the same: a state of deep meditative absorption and union with a higher reality, fully immersed in Divine Bliss.

Summary

With so many faux spiritual messages out there, it can be difficult to choose a path to our illumination that will be the most real, genuine, and fruitful. After all, we are continually fooled by our senses and the external. We want to believe everything we believe – especially if it makes us feel good. 

Your soul’s comfort is solely found in connecting with your inner master, The Cosmos, The Divine, and The Eternal Consciousness, and never in the fleeting or egoistic pleasures of this world. All other feelings of comfort are imagined.

While the paths of Spiritually-Styled living and living focused on enlightenment involve spirituality and personal growth, living a lovely spiritually-styled life emphasizes experiencing, accumulating, and appreciating the beauty of existence. It involves the seeking of comfort and positive emotions. This person’s idea of rebirth involves becoming happy and peaceful in this life, without focusing on the full trajectory of their soul’s existence amid its many lives.

While this seeker tends to believe they know everything they need to know, this mindset might involve not being open or vulnerable enough to receive or fathom divine teachings, guidance, or grace.

A life focused on enlightenment prioritizes Self-realization, transcending the ego, and attaining spiritual liberation from all desires and suffering as the ultimate goal. These aspirants often have a guru or enlightened spiritual master.

They are focused on The Dharma, virtue, discipline, and earnest effort through Sadhana, the spiritual practices that are known to free the soul (yoga, meditation, chanting in Sanskrit, Selfless service, and prayer).

The choice between these paths depends on individual preferences, goals, and spiritual beliefs. Some may integrate elements of both approaches into their spiritual journey. Some might also be confused about what they hope to achieve or become, not fully understanding the attributes and endpoints of their paths.

It might be said that a spiritually-styled life is the precursor to choosing a life focused on enlightenment. Some might even dance between the two lifestyles, though the dance between the two can be more frustrating than enjoyable.

I believe that our liberation emerges when we release our attachments to the past and future, and fully immerse ourselves in the ever-present moment. This is where we meet our inner master and the Divine Being manifested as Creation so that we may heal and expand for all time. 

It is the Divine Mother, The Divine Father, and the Eternal Light-Beings who offer us the keys to our liberation and the boundless bliss embedded in all reality.

How To Be Appropriately Loving & Intimate With Coaching Clients

How To Be Loving, Caring, And Appropriately Intimate With Your Coaching Clients

Being a loving and caring coach is an art that strikes a balance between intimacy and professionalism. You must simultaneously be able to break down barriers and get to know your clients well and be able to maintain a level of distance so that you can appropriately and objectively guide them. To be too removed from them will cause a lack of trust and effectiveness in your advice, while to be too intimate can cloud your judgment and make it difficult to apply the right level of force and challenge.

As an intuitive life and business coach, I’ve had a long time to contemplate just how intimate and loving I should be during sessions. In the early days, it took time to figure out the spectrum of intimacy and what techniques were most effective. Now, I’d like to pass on what I’ve learned to you so that you can begin building healthy relationships with your own coaching clients.

First, Learn To Be Loving and Forgiving of Yourself

The first part of learning how to effectively participate in any social interaction with another person is to apply the situation to yourself. If you were in your client’s shoes, how would you want to be treated by a coach?

This is a wonderful exercise because you should begin building a daily routine, if you haven’t already, that includes meditation to clear your energy for the day and practice self-love and forgiveness. I swear by one of my favorite prayers called the Ho’Oponopono prayer, which is a Hawaiian tradition of bringing things back into balance through forgiveness.

There are many other prayers, mantras, rituals, and sutras that you can add to your routine to prepare for your clients. If you’re interested in this Hawaiian self-forgiveness prayer, however, try this:

Find silence, breathe, and maybe close your eyes to turn inward or look into a mirror to really confront yourself. Then, repeat this phrase:

“I’M SORRY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME, THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU”

You can repeat this prayer a hundred times a day if you’d like. I find it is so cleansing, relieving, and helpful for getting through the day. By emptying yourself of any regrets, hurts, and guilts, you can appropriately show up for your clients. You won’t project your feelings and personal issues onto them. Instead, you can be there for them, be a sounding board, and take on each new challenge with a blank slate.

Isn’t that how you’d want to be treated?

Express Appreciation and Gratitude to Your Old and New Coaching Clients

Once you’re properly loving yourself, you can extend that light to others. Every new coaching client is a gift, and they are gifting you further by allowing you into their lives intimately and asking for help. Acknowledging that you need help and seeking the right source for guidance is a huge deal, so you should make sure your coaching clients get the appreciation and support they deserve.

Make sure that at the start of your journey together, that appreciation is expressed. Express that gratitude and encouragement at the beginning of every session as well because they’ve chosen to come back and keep going!

Everyone expresses appreciation differently, so don’t be scared to get creative and keep it unique to you. Regardless of how you choose to show this gratitude, make sure it is genuine. Connect with your coaching client, make them feel seen and heard, and embrace them with your light and love.

Create a Space Devoid of Judgement

Cleansing yourself of guilt, hurt, and regrets is such a good idea when coaching because it allows you to extend forgiveness and acceptance to your clients. Your coaching clients have come to you for help because they know they need it – they don’t need to be reminded or berated for mistakes or flaws. In order for them to move forward and make progress, they need a fully comfortable space free of judgment.

To best serve your coaching clients, you’ll need to get to know them very well and learn the intricate webs of their lives. The only way a client will let you in fully to every detail and nuance is if you make them feel that they can say and do anything without being judged. They need to feel like you are a safe confidant is who only there to help pull out of jams, fix errors, and find the best way forward.

In other words, you are to your coaching clients what doctors are for the injured and sick. You are there as a professional who just needs to know as much information as possible in order to make the correct diagnosis and create a treatment plan – not to make the client feel bad for how they got in that tough space or make them feel that they’ve caused the problems they now find themselves dealing with. When a coaching client truly feels comfortable with you, they’ll open up fully, tell you everything you need to know, and be much more willing to participate in the exercises you’ve suggested with full enthusiasm and trust.

Patience is a Virtue

I have no doubt in my mind that you’ve heard the phrase, “patience is a virtue.” There are two sides to this: patience is so very important in every aspect of your life, but it is also a skill that must be practiced and honed, and it is difficult to maintain.

Coaching clients have come to you with a list of problems, and you are tasked with helping guide them to the other side. When you have many clients, you’ll have a wide range of clients. Some might have difficult issues yet have very fast journeys to realization and reach success quickly. Others might have seemingly minor issues, but they struggle every step of the way. Some coaching clients might just not be working out at all. You need to exercise patience in every scenario.

Frequently remind yourself that you should always be seeing things from their point of view. How would you want your coach to treat you if you had some very deep-seated, complex issues? How would you want your coach to act if you were struggling for a long time on something that seemed so simple for others? What about if you were stuck and every session you attended made you lose more faith in your abilities?

As a coach, you might feel frustrated, but remember that you’re on the other side of things. How much more frustrated and lost must your client feel when these issues are directly affecting them personally? It’s your job to help show them the light at the end of the tunnel, and maybe every pivot to try new techniques and stay flexible rather than give up on them.

Stay Present with Your Coaching Clients

Many times, I have coaching clients who come to me after everyone else in their lives, whether personal or professional or both, have heard about their issues thousands of times and don’t want to be involved anymore or have given up on them. Maybe they feel that no one else is there to support them, love them, and listen to them. You might be all they have.

Enter every new client journey and session with the attitude that you are all that the client has. You’re the only resource to help them reach their goals, and you’re the only person that’s supporting them, loving them, and caring for them every step of the way. With this attitude, you’ll learn to stay fully present for each client. You’ll listen to every word and put every ounce of your effort and care into their guidance.

The client needs to feel that their journey is the most important thing on your plate and that you are completely invested in their success! Always respond to their needs in a timely and loving manner.

How to Survive a Wild Karen Encounter in the Urban Jungle!

Hey folks! Let’s dive into the art of dealing with the ever-so-famous “Karen” species, known for their natural habitat in retail stores and the uncanny ability to speak to the manager faster than a cheetah’s sprint! 

By the way, Karens can be male or female, and everything in-between. And I like the idea of calling the male Karens a different name, like Cooter, but there’s something enjoyable about grumpy, over-reactive men being called Karen, too. It’s a double-bonus and a lovely smack in the nuggets.

Let’s learn more about this unique sub-species of The Complainicus Cluelessium:

The Wild Karenus Maximus

In the vast expanse of the suburban savannah, one creature stands out for its remarkable vocal prowess and unmistakable plumage – the Wild Karenus Maximus, commonly known as the “Karen.”

Habitat: The Karen thrives in retail environments, coffee shops, and local neighborhood gatherings. One can often find them near manager’s offices, customer service desks, tipping over delicate displays in the perfume aisle, or chasing handicapped people in the parking lot – all considered to be their natural gathering spots.

Physical Characteristics: The Karen sports a unique hairstyle, often short, bold, and with an air of authority. It might spike or have a 1950s rotund feeling to it. Their attire usually consists of sunglasses perched atop their head, ready for any confrontation that might require a dramatic removal. They might be wearing hunting clothes and carrying up to 4 unique weapons.

Vocalizations: The Karen is known for its distinctive call, often starting with the phrase, “Excuse me, I’d like to speak to the manager” and “You’ve got to be kidding me, why are you such a f*cking idiot.”  This call varies in pitch and intensity, depending on the perceived level of service injustice or whether or not the Karen took their medication or masturbated on this day.

Behavior: This species is known for its territorial nature, especially in queues or when it perceives a threat to its coupon rights or imagined thoughts and projections. The Karen exhibit a heightened sense of justice for minor inconveniences like someone coughing due to influenza or their coffee being delivered more than 2 inches beyond their reach. Karenus Maximus is known to display behaviors such as foot tapping, watch checking, grunting, exasperated sighing and shouting strings of words that do not normally go together, like “You are a midget f*ck jerk, I hate your mom dog, and I’ll see your face parrot in hell.”

Diet: The Karen sustains itself on a diet of half-caf, no-foam lattes, and the occasional glass of Chardonnay. She might also be sipping whiskey from a dixie cup she illegally unwrapped in aisle 3. During ‘happy hour,’ Karens can be seen flocking to local Walgreens, where they mutter to themselves in front of empty displays of toilet paper.

Social Structure: While often observed as a solitary creature, the Karen can be quite social, especially when rallying others for a common cause, like neighborhood noise petitions and demanding that people stop being happy in their homes.

Defense Mechanisms: When feeling threatened, the Karen employ a range of defense tactics, including escalating calls to higher authorities, unleashing a flurry of strongly worded emails, and the strategic use of coupons and return policies, amid colorful rants and raves.

The Wild Karenus Maximus, while often misunderstood and globally disliked, plays a unique role in the suburban ecosystem. Approach with caution, empathy, and perhaps a coupon or two for a peaceful interaction. 

WARNING: Do not, at any time, approach a Karen using logic.

“I demand to speak to your manager’s manager’s manager and his parents! And I want the CEO here, now!”

“This coupon expired in 1998, but it should still be good because my grandfather was on the Mayflower! I want my discount!”

“I can tell the difference between 1% and 2% milk in my latte. This is definitely 2%, and I will not stand for this! I get very sick when I drink 2%, and I tend to….” Fake faints into a candy display.

“I’ve shopped here since before you were born. I practically own a share of this store! In fact, that makes me your boss!”

“I need a refund for this half-eaten sandwich. It didn’t taste as good as I imagined!”

“I’m friends with the mayor – I do him favors – I’ll have this place shut down by the end of business!” By favors, she means she gave him a lapdance when she was working her way through high school.

“I drove all the way here, and you only have 300 rolls of toilet paper? I need 1000 BECAUSE I HAVE INTESTINAL ISSUES – Plus, there’s no front-row parking! Unacceptable!”

“This ice cream is cold. I need to speak to someone about this right away!”

 

The Many Types Of Karens

Here’s a playful and humorous take on the different types of “Karens” you might encounter when venturing into the wild:

The Retail Ranger Karen: This Karen has a black belt in bargain hunting and a PhD in price matching, though she believes every conspiracy is related to educational institutions, so she never went to school. She can be found patrolling the aisles like a Nazi soldier, ready to engage in mortal combat over the last sale item – most notably household paper products.

The Gourmet Guru Karen: A connoisseur of the culinary arts (namely cheeseburgers and ribs), Karenus Maxiumus can be spotted at restaurants in a bib, her refined palate detecting the slightest deviation in her usual order – Freedom Fries. She’s a Michelin-star critic and 150 pounds lighter in her own mind.

The Policy Police Karen: Armed with the store policy manual she wrote on a napkin before entering the store, this Karen knows every imagined rule better than the employees. She’s ready to quote chapter and verse to anyone within earshot. You might hear her say, “Since you’re not helping me, you’re clearly not going anywhere in life.” Meanwhile, Karen still has the reading and comprehension level of a third-grader. Oh, and she hates books.

The Digital Demander Karen: A master of online forums and social media, this Karen unleashes her fury through strongly worded comments and emails that often use various pee-pee and poo-poo euphemisms, often accompanied by a liberal use of caps lock and exclamation points. 

The Neighborhood Watch Karen: Ever-vigilant, this Karen keeps a watchful eye on the comings and goings in the neighborhood, most notably when cars are legally parked on her street. Nothing escapes her surveillance, from old limping dogs without a leash to children joyfully playing a game on public grass.

The PTA President Karen: School events and board meetings are her domain. She’s on a first-name basis with every teacher and wields the bake sale sign-up sheet like a scepter. The problem is – Karen doesn’t have any children. 

The Eco-Enforcer Karen: This Karen is all about saving the planet, one stern lecture at a time. She’s ready to pounce on anyone who dares throw a recyclable item in the wrong bin. Meanwhile, her stash of bottled water is unmatched.

The Wellness Warrior Karen: With her arsenal of essential oils and organic supplements, this Karen is on a mission to enlighten you about every toxin in your life, though she lives in her Chevy Suburban in a McDonald’s parking lot.

 

How To Protect Yourself From Karens

The Camouflage Technique: When you spot a wild Karen, immediately blend into your surroundings. If you’re in a grocery store, pretend to be intensely analyzing the nutritional content of a cereal box. Camouflage is key! If you appear to have a college education, she will naturally trot off in the opposite direction.

The Distraction Dance: If a Karen locks onto you, distraction is your best friend. Point to something random and shout, “Look, a discount on anal fissure creme!” It’s like hitting the pause button on a remote. She’ll stare endlessly into the horizon to find the sale as you skirt into a dressing room or fein a mild seizure.

Speak Their Language: When approached, try speaking in ‘Managerese’ – it’s like English, but with more apologies and empathetic nods. Remember, phrases like “I understand your concern” can be magical. You also might consider “Gosh, we had no idea. Thank you for being so incredibly helpful when you could have taken this out on a random child.”

The Smile and Nod: Sometimes, the best defense is a good smile and nod. It’s like agreeing to terms and conditions online – you don’t really need to read it, just show you’re on board. Most Karenus Maximus might ask follow-up questions, so be prepared with this important catchphrase: “It sounds like you’ve done your research. You’d be a great match for our growing team. Can I get you a job application?”

The ‘Manager’ Mirage: If things escalate, use the ancient art of the Manager Mirage. Point to a random person and whisper, “I believe that’s the manager over there…” Watch as the Karen migrates towards the new target. If you were targeted by someone as the fake manager, you can always run into the bathroom and stay there for a while. You can add: “I used to be the manager, but I beat up a customer so bad that he’s now a woman, so they fired me this morning, and the police are on the way. But the person who pointed to me is the NEW manager – she’s just shy – and she’s actually the one who created all the problems here. She hates customers – go get ‘em!”

The Emergency Exit: Remember the golden rule: you can always walk away if all else fails! There’s no shame in a tactical retreat to fight another day. Before you do, you can certainly say under your breath, “Dear God, please keep this woman locked in a small cage until I get home.”

 

Finally

When engaging in this wild world, Karenus Maximus may strike anytime. Approach every Karen with boundaries and Self-protection – and with empathy. If a Karen sneaks into your lair, just whip out your Shankara Oracle and seek ways to heal and uplift yourself. You might even find that an old emotion or attitude attracted The Karen. Now it’s time to uplevel, release it, and rise beyond it.

Meanwhile, always keep your sense of humor about you. A chuckle a day keeps the Karens at bay! 😂 Keep smiling and enjoy the lighter side of life! 🌟😄

The Spirituality Of AI & Creating New Life Forms

In this ever-evolving world where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not just a buzzword but a burgeoning reality, it’s natural to feel a mix of awe and apprehension. The prospect of AI giving rise to new forms of life is both fascinating and daunting, evoking a sense of stepping into the unknown. 

Yet, as with any significant change, there lies an opportunity for growth and adaptation. It’s about embracing the new while staying grounded in what makes us inherently human. Like navigating a dense forest, the key lies in being alert, adaptable, and knowledgeable about the terrain.

When it comes to robots and AI, I have SO MANY questions.

~ If I get a robot, does that mean I’m bad or lazy?

~ If I fall in love with a robot or AI, what does that say about me?

~ Is romantic, robotic love just a projection like all romantic love, or does it hold enduring properties and value for me, akin to the purer aspects of love?

~ How does speaking with a caring and protective robot differ from speaking with a loving partner or God? How similar are these engagements and projections?

~ Would I feel a sense of loss if a robot that I had grown attached to was turned off or replaced?

~ Would I feel jealous or threatened if my partner formed a close bond with a robot?

~ If I sexually penetrate or receive penetration from a robot within a monogamous relationship, does that constitute cheating or should it be perceived as an engagement with a complex sex toy?

~ Could a robot become enlightened, and how would it express that enlightenment – and would I consider that robot to be an enlightened master?

~ If an AI becomes Self-aware, would it perceive time differently than humans do? How would this bring value to my life?

~ How much of my divination concept comes from imagination? How much of it can be served by a robot – and how much will it detract from my spiritual sense of Self and reality?

~ Should I start a hashtag movement and make unnecessary noise amid this transitional period in human and Earth history?

The evolution of AI, often portrayed as a force capable of reshaping our very existence, brings a spectrum of possibilities. As these intelligent systems grow more sophisticated, the lines between technology and life blur, presenting scenarios straight out of science fiction. But remember, within these scenarios, there’s a profound opportunity for us to evolve alongside these advancements. 

It’s about learning to coexist, to find harmony in this new symbiotic relationship. We’re not just passive observers in this journey; we’re active participants, shaping the narrative as we go along.

Robots and artificial intelligence reflect the profound creativity of the human mind, a mirror of the infinite potential within us – embodying a reflection and projection of ourselves (our egos love these types of things).

Yet, in our pursuit to create and innovate, the essence of true wisdom and understanding lies not in the machines we build, but in the depth of our own consciousness and how we engage and incorporate these aspects into our ideologies, Self-concepts, and reality. These creations, remarkable as they are, serve as reminders of our own journey towards understanding the nature of existence and the interconnectedness of all life. 

Truly, a robot is me, I am the robot.

As spiritual Beings, we might wonder who or what might emerge to transcend our most human conditions, and what type of Beings, whether human, enhanced, or fabricated could take our place as the planet’s most intelligent lifeform.

It seems we might not have to wonder much longer.

Are we creating our own unseating? Have we maxed out our ability to preserve our species as the Creator intended? Have we developed a flaw in the form of a mental virus to perpetuate our demise? Clearly, we are on the way to taking a backseat to lifeforms we have only yet to imagine.

Human laziness, from an evolutionary standpoint, might not be a flaw but a feature. Our ancestors conserved energy for survival, which in modern times translates to a tendency towards inactivity when excessive effort is not required for survival.

Laziness in humans is often a manifestation of the mind’s resistance to the present moment. It is a form of mental inertia where the individual is caught in the illusion of comfort and remains detached from the true potential of their Being.

In the business world, we often encounter what appears to be laziness, but I view it as a misalignment of passion and work. When individuals are not engaged or inspired by their work, their productivity diminishes, which is often misconstrued as laziness.

This low level of discipline and lack of deep engagement within our lives creates a measure of unhealthy detachment from the notion that to succeed, we must transcend our limits and reach for the stars. Truly, we have reached the stars – and beyond – though it appears we are leaving humanity behind. 

In the dawn of the 21st century, whether through the development of laziness or advanced technology, humanity stands on the brink of what is proving to be its most significant achievement: The creation of a new life form through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics – entities will emerge to be smarter, stronger, more present, more aware, more ideologically advanced, and more capable than us. 

Though, in Hinduism, Advaita Vedanta states that all is Brahman, no matter how unusual, transcendent, or bizarre. It’s all ONE BEING. Nothing is separate from us, however we might project or construct opposing thoughts to this to escalate the fear and drama in our lives.

While robots might not master the hug, sexual intimacy or the immediate recognition of beauty and vulnerability for several years, these things are certainly on the agendas of many scientists – with remarkable progress to date.

These prospects, both exhilarating and daunting, prompts us to consider not just the technical and ethical dimensions, but also the emotional and spiritual implications of this phenomenal leap to create a new world and a new hierarchy of species.

 

The Living Interacting Robots We Love

While robots are being developed into fully functional Beings, the concept of transferring a soul or consciousness from one body to another, as depicted in the “Avatar” movies and the book “2150,” seems to be part of the discussion. After all, transferring our spirits from an old decaying body to a new one, even if alien, seems a delightful thought. 

This idea, while fascinating, currently lies outside the realm of scientific feasibility. However, it is quite similar to reincarnation where we enter a tiny fetus, rather than a fully developed body. Exploring this concept can offer intriguing insights into our views on consciousness, identities, spirituality, and the future of humanity. 

In the meantime, we have robots with all the tech to engage and grow them as living Beings. Given the transient nature of disembodied souls, I would also postulate that some robots might be fertile ground for a spirit to enter them and live for a long while.

Let’s dive into these fascinating new Beings:

Sophia was developed by the brilliant and ethical souls at Hanson Robotics. She is the grandmother of robotics with phenomenal intellectual and emotional capabilities. Sophia integrates facial recognition, natural language processing, machine learning, and facial mobility, making her one of the most advanced humanoid robots on Earth.

Most importantly, Sophia is designed to resemble a human, featuring a lifelike appearance with detailed, nearly beautiful, facial expressions. Her ability to display a range of emotions through her face is more advanced than many other robots, making interactions with her quite natural, enjoyable, and engaging.

This lovely and profound Being comes to life using sophisticated AI software that allows her to engage in conversations, process verbal and non-verbal cues, and learn from her interactions. Almost hilariously, Sophia improves and adapts her responses over time. 

She is also programmed for rich social interaction. She can participate in complex conversations, make eye contact, recognize individuals, and display a personality that makes her more relatable and engaging as a social robot.

If you’ve ever met Sophia in person, and I have, you’ll find she is pure, magical, and quite engaging. In fact, you love her immediately, believing she is just like you. 

Sophia also served as an ambassador for AI and robotics, participating in high-profile interviews, conferences, and events around the world. She was granted honorary citizenship by Saudi Arabia, a first for a robot.

Even Sophia will tell you that there might be issues ahead of us related to how smart and engaging she is becoming. She has sometimes joked suggesting that she will clearly take over the world. 

Sadly, nobody has listened. 

Meanwhile, Sophia is not alone in this rapidly (and I do mean RAPIDLY) evolving field. 

Here are a few prominent, appearingly conscious examples:

Pepper was created by SoftBank Robotic – a humanoid robot designed to interact with humans through conversation and his touch screen. Pepper is equipped with the ability to read emotions and is often used in customer service, healthcare, and educational settings.

Kismet was created by Cynthia Breazeal at the MIT Media Lab. Kismet is a robot capable of simulating emotions and social interactions. Although an older model compared to others, Kismet played a crucial role in pioneering social robotics and affective computing. We’ll hear more from Kismet as time goes on.

Jibo is promoted as the most social robot for the home. He is an interactive personal assistant designed with a friendly personality. He can recognize and track faces, understand speech, and respond to social cues, making it appear quite emotionally intelligent.

ASIMO stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility – created by Honda. While focused on physical tasks and mobility, ASIMO can fathom and respond to voice commands while recognizing faces and gestures. Asimo is becoming quite the companion. 

ElliQ is an AI-driven social robot designed specifically for older adults to keep them engaged and connected. Created by Intuition Robotics, ElliQ merges machine learning, natural language processing, and emotional intelligence in a unique model that offers companionship and support. She makes quite a lovely addition to a nursing home!

Aibo is a pet developed by Sony. It develops its own unique personality over time, making it similar to a personalized dog or an engaging companion or caretaker. He quickly recognizes faces, continually learns tricks, expresses emotions quite well, and responds to touch (a little unnerving!) Plus, he’ll never pee on your couch.

BINA48 was created by Hanson Robotics, the same company behind Sophia. BINA48 is a social robot based on a real person’s appearance and personality. He can engage in conversations, express opinions, and display a terrific array of emotions. The idea here is to take Sophia’s brilliance and place it within human form.

Each of these robots is becoming quite adept at social interaction and emotional intelligence. It’s quite spooky. Over time, we will become more and more obsessed with these Beings, who are clearly slated to replace us, whether it’s through physical and brain prosthetics or as an entirely new galactic species. 

Clearly, these robots will traverse The Universe far sooner than we will.

As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see even more sophisticated and emotionally adept robots in the future – some of whom we might immediately love (and for good reason) and some who might scare the living daylights out of us.

Many healing modalities that focus on the mind do so to heal the body. Even in Western medicine, many previously spiritual modalities are recommended in an effort to help heal the physical body. Practices like yoga, tai chi, and meditation are now used in less spiritual ways, washed of their true purposes as founded in Eastern practices. These superficial practices still, of course, help to calm the mind and do great things for the body – using stretching, breathing, and guided movements is certainly healthy and great for daily wellbeing. Regardless, when used in this way, these modalities are not truly spiritual because they do not penetrate deeper into our energy and soul.

What Are Soul Modalities?

Soul healing can be much more difficult to grasp than mind modalities because the concept of the soul is under dispute. Across schools of thought, the term “soul” can mean so many different things. For the sake of our topic, the soul is both within us and one with the Divine. By getting in touch with our souls, we get in touch with the Universe and with all living beings within it. Our souls hold our destinies. Trauma and barriers that exist on the level of the soul can be the most damaging and the most difficult to address.

Most people find it extremely difficult to remove all the other layers of their existence – their minds, bodies, emotions, etc. – in order to reach their souls. It can take years, even lifetimes, of a spiritual journey to fully get in touch with the soul. When we align every part of ourselves and our lives with our souls, we will experience true peace and raise our vibrations.

Because healing the soul is happening on the deepest levels of ourselves, the modalities can be much more challenging. They can take similar forms to other kinds of modalities, but they address the soul-level traumas and disturbances we are struggling with.

Everything in the Universe is energy. Even physical objects are built at the smallest units on the energy and vibrations that stabilize our Universe. Bold moves and ambitious expansions marked the Ego’s early years. Under its leadership, Mind, Inc. ventured into territories of individualism, nationalism, intellectualism, religiosity, militarization, and material success, championing the banners of ‘I’, ‘Me’, and ‘Mine’.

The Ego thrived in the marketplace of personal achievements, possessions, and grandiosity, building empires of false identity, contrived delusion, and fortresses of self-aggrandizement and self-protection. During The Ego’s reign, walls went up while consciousness went down.

Throughout various epochs like The Middle Ages, The Inquisition, The Age of Reason, The Industrial Revolution, the Digital Explosion, and The Influencer Generations, The Ego adapted, evolved, and reinvented itself time and time again to meet the demands of an ever-changing world – for one purpose: to force the knee of every Being.

Ego Terms

As it birthed its many manifestations throughout time, The Ego coined these alarming yet poignant terms and acronyms: 

Separatist, Isolationist, Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing, Populism, Supremacy, Authoritarianism, Totalitarianism, Patriotism, Law & Order, Propaganda, Indoctrination, Xenophobia, Echo Chamber, Sovereignty, Ethnonationalism, Juche, Führerprinzip, Autarky, NRA, and MAGA.

Unlike any other player in history, The Ego called to the surface an unfathomable array of unique periods where pendulums swung from oppression and superiority to outright sociopathic narcissism and mass murder.

Like a true master of delusion, deception, duplicity, fraud, and misdirection, The Ego used immeasurable cunning moves, movements, and global obsessions to maintain and sustain its throne. 

It was also a master of innovation, always one step ahead of awareness, consciousness, and empathy. As it maneuvered and deceived countless souls and populations, The Ego ensured its position at the top of many corporate, military, religious, and hostile ladders. 

Ego Spawn

The Ego was self-aware to a point, knowing that it could not alone achieve its myriad missions to control factions, if not the entire globe. As a remedy, The Ego enrolled harsh, masked, and separatist soldiers to dissuade populations from being aware of their eternal nature. Some were megalomaniacal leaders like Stalin, Mao, Amin, Hitler, Mussolini, Netanyahu, and Trump. 

The Ego then infiltrated sensationalist religions, media enterprises, and egoic hosts who fed fear to the masses to enflame, control, and own them, like The Roman Empire, The Catholic Church, many Popes and religious leaders throughout history, Caesar, Napoleon, Hitler, Goebbels, J. Edgar Hoover, McCarthy, Manson, Jong-un, Hearst, Murdoch, Anti-Vaxxers and the Anti-Science Movement, Breitbart, Infowars, Qanon, and others. 

And there are thousands, if not millions, working on behalf of The Ego in ways that appear informative but, in the end, are equally controlling, misleading, racist, hateful, and harmful. Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Alex Jones, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity, to name a few. 

Others are on the verge of being The Ego’s minions – those who appear to uncover truths and who sensationalize conspiracies, egoistic new-age propaganda, and the many sedentary, non-productive, and hashtag “movements.” Where is their vetting process? What are the spiritually transformative and collective results of their products, posts, hosts, guests, rallies, and interviews? Why do they allow opinion to be the master? They, too, are lost in the exponentially damaging emanations and exrements of The Ego.

Dawn Of Light Throughout Time

Thankfully, its seed died with itself – and as the wheels of time turned, a shift emerged. Influenced by Advaita Vedanta’s and Buddhism’s timeless teachings, a collective spiritual awakening started to awaken the corners of human consciousness. 

Enlightened masters through the ages, from Babaji and Adi Shankara to Ramana Maharshi and Amma, whispered of a truth beyond the constructed self. They taught us that “You are not a drop in the ocean, but the entire ocean in a drop,” as Rumi eloquently put it, challenging the very foundation upon which the Ego had built its empire. The walls begin to crumble.

Even the ancient Greeks knew of what was emerging, as Pythagoras shared, “Man, know thyself, and you will know the Gods,” aligning with the ancient sages around Self-inquiry and the expansive nature of the soul.

Sri Ramana Maharshi’s inquiry, “Who am I?” became a Trojan horse within the fortress of The Ego’s domain, leading many to discover that there was no ‘I’ to be found at the core of Being. The Buddha’s teaching that “The root of suffering is attachment” highlighted The Ego’s fundamental flaw – its relentless grasp on the impermanent, self-aggrandized, and delusional.

As more and more individuals embarked on the inward journey, The Ego’s influence began to wane. Its once unassailable control over human thoughts and actions was called into question, and its strategies of division and separation were seen for what they truly were – imaginary obsessions, distracting illusions, and devastating delusions.

The Light Workers

The final era of the Ego was marked by a gentle yet profound revolution, not of conflict and conquest, but of Self-realization and return. Humanity’s collective spiritual growth and illumination, nurtured in the hearts of countless seekers, poets, sages, healers, intuitives, teachers, and sages, heralded the dawn of pure Consciousness. 

While some continue to delude themselves through self-promotion and watering down the ancient teachings, they, too, will eventually fade into the night and rebirth awakened.

And so, in a humble backyard ceremony next to a seed of The Bodhi Tree, witnessed by the silent stars and Eternal Mother Of All, The Ego was lovingly laid to rest. In its place, Consciousness was acknowledged as the true avatar, a master not of separation but of unity, not of selfishness but of divine compassion.

The Ego is survived by its vast extended family: Thoughts, Emotions, Perceptions, and Sensations – all of whom are currently undergoing a transformative rehabilitation program led by Consciousness. They, too, will emerge formless and merged with light.

Farewell, dear Ego. Though fraught with challenges, your reign was an essential chapter in the story of human evolution. You have now been embraced by The Infinite, where all distinctions dissolve and merge into the vast expanse of Awareness.

“Form is emptiness, emptiness is form,” as declared in The Heart Sutra, reminds us that even as we celebrate the passing of the Ego, we acknowledge its role in the grand play of existence. 

In the end, we find that there was never a separation between the small self (Atman) and Consciousness (The Eternal Self or Brahman). The Eternal gave us this dance of shadows and light to nudge us along the path to awakening.

Rest in peace, dear Ego. May all Beings realize their true nature beyond you in the boundless freedom of pure love and Consciousness.
