According to TCM, the Spleen is in charge of converting food and drink into Qi and Blood. Check for spleen dysfunction first if someone is deficient in Qi or energy. The energy that maintains our entire body, Zhen Qi, is created after the Spleen converts food and liquids into Qi. This Qi then ascends to the Lungs where it combines with Lung Qi.

Fatigue and sluggishness, loose stools or diarrhoea, poor appetite, phlegm and dampness, weak arms and legs, and prolapsed organs are all signs that the spleen is short in qi (such as haemorrhoids). Astragalus root is a Spleen Qi tonic that boosts energy, improves digestion, and can raise prolapsed organs. It also raises appetite.

 

HERBS FOR THYROID

Licorice

One of the oldest herbal treatments in use today, licorice is a native of Western Asia and Southern Europe. By lowering cortisol levels in the body and shielding the thyroid gland from oxidative damage, it enhances thyroid function.

Licorice contains strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, according to research-based information. This can ease many thyroid problem symptoms and make your life easier.

Black Cumin

What Does It Mean When We Say “No Excuses”?

 

You are an unlimited Being, born from myriad miracles. Nothing is stopping you from growing, healing, and moving beyond your current circumstances and conditions. There’s karma to contend with, but prayer and your focus on an enlightened master or God, you can burn through karma. There will be pain, but the pain is transforming you.

Throughout our lives, we see many people succeed and many who fail. We might worship those who reach the tops of mountains, and we might dismiss those who often suffer defeat. As we wander the planet pursuing our passions and interests, we might secretly worship one of the world’s “winners” in our mind’s eye, hoping that one day we’ll achieve a status equal to theirs. In our focus on these individuals, we forget that our karma is unique.

Our paths are unique. And as such, we must forge unique trajectories to shift, transform, or transcend. 

Amid our own victories and failures, we learn what works and what doesn’t. We either improve, pivot, or die. If we’re honest with ourselves, we might admit that we rarely learn from our mistakes. Unwilling to dissolve our stubbornness and addiction to outdated behaviors and beliefs, we fail to free ourselves from bad habits, ill-conceived pursuits, and a variety of misconceptions. It all comes down to our excuses.

The idea of “no excuses” sounds simple, but we complicate it due to our self-perceptions and exhaustion. After all, life on Earth has become quite intense and complex these days. But when it comes down to it, you either want to grow and heal and improve your conditions, or you do not.

You might feel, “well, this pain, this situation, this is the way it is,” but we can always improve our circumstances, even if it’s only one small step at a time.

If you want to truly change and advance your position in the world, it probably won’t be easy. It will most likely require self-sacrifice and hard work. It will also require you to move beyond your temporary self-identities, attitudes, false desires, mental perseverations, and ego, and into a state of humility, honesty, and wonder.

If you’re too enthused with your identity and ego, or if you’ve become accustomed to playing the victim, you’ll continue to defend the notion that excuses are real – but they are not.

An excuse is a statement that we use to justify our inability to find pathways to improved conditions. It’s often contrived out of thin air and presented within ourselves in such a way that it brings us shame, thereby lowering our vibrations.

When we have 4 or 5 excuses, we believe we have a legal, defensible case against ourselves and our potential. We then use our minds to take ourselves to spiritual court. Even with the best intentions and most innovative slights of hand, we’ll lose this battle every time. We are too smart for our own good.

So, there we sit, stuck in a cesspool of our excuses.

Here are a few reasons why your excuses are merely contrived fantasies that you’re using to defeat yourself and defend laziness:

  1. You have skin, bones, a brain, a heart, and passion. With these elements, you can accomplish nearly anything. What most often happens is that we get distracted and depressed, and we refuse to shift our behaviors toward a more enlightening feeling or position. When you add our addictions to social media to the mix, you have a stew that can only breed mediocrity and complaints.
  2. Your ideas and passions are not that complicated. It’s not like your goal is to fly to a distant nebula on a magical, nuclear, cocktail napkin. Your desires are most likely based in reality, which gives you a fighting chance at bringing them to life.
  3. You have already tried sitting around, complaining, and building a case against yourself.
  4. You already know which of the people in your life you no longer value. You’ve been keeping them around so you can feel validated. It’s within this codependent model that we grow mental and emotional infections that can prevent us from ever-evolving.
  5. You have made mistakes and you have created some unique, winning scenarios. Even with a predominance of failures, you still have enough data to thrust you forward with confidence.
  6. You’re sick of your attitude, so why not try something else?

Whether you believe in reincarnation or not, this life of yours is happening. It’s ON. It’s moving forward with or without you.

Why not admit you’re blocked, and choose to change your daily routine so you can advance your life to the next level?

What is Cushioning and Back-Burnering?

Am I Being Cushioned or Back-Burnered In My Relationship?

The first days of a relationship can be intoxicating – you’re falling in love, getting to know your new partner, and floating on the proverbial cloud. Everything is amazing, and then little by little, you may start to notice that the relationship you were so happy in has changed. Your partner is distant and secretive, and you feel like you can’t connect with them.

If this sounds familiar, you may be in a back-burner relationship. Read on to learn about cushioning and back-burnering and discover the warning signs that this is happening in your relationship.

What Is Cushioning?

So before we dive into how to tell if you’re being cushioned, let’s talk about what that term even means. Cushioning in dating is when your partner has someone set up as a back-up plan in case your relationship fails. Essentially, they’re fostering a semi-romantic relationship with another person that they can transition into a full-out dating relationship if things go south with you.

Cushioning happens when a relationship is on the rocks and someone is afraid of being alone. It can happen when your partner craves more attention than one person can reasonably give them. And in any case, it shows that your partner isn’t committed to you or your relationship and is making backup plans for when things fall apart.

What Is Back-Burnering?

While back-burnering can look similar on the surface, it differs from cushioning in a few different ways. When you’re on the back burner with someone, you aren’t their main priority in the relationship. They may or may not be pursuing a relationship with someone else, but they’re not giving you their all, either.

When you’re being back-burnered, you may find that your partner doesn’t seem to have time for you or interest in being with you. You may feel like a second choice, and you might find that you don’t get to spend very much time with them. Sometimes, being in a back-burner relationship can feel even lonelier than just being single.

They’re Secretive About Phone Activity

One of the first things you may notice when you’re being cushioned or back-burnered is that your partner is suddenly glued to their phone. They don’t go anywhere without it, and they always seem to be texting, chatting, or scrolling social media. This may even start to interfere in your relationship, since you can’t seem to get their attention.

Worst of all, your partner may start refusing to let you see anything on their phone. Of course, everyone has a right to their privacy, but your partner shouldn’t be making active efforts to hide their phone activity from you. If they won’t let you see what they’re texting or looking at, it could mean they’re chatting up someone else.

They’re Hot and Cold

One of the biggest red flags in a relationship is your partner switching between being affectionate and being aloof. Everyone has bad days, and your partner may have times when they feel a little more distant or hard to read. But swinging wildly between hot and cold can show you that your partner isn’t sure if they want to be in your relationship.

Does your partner refuse to talk to you for days on end and then call you and act like nothing is wrong? Do they act like they want you one night and then barely look your way for the next week? These sorts of extreme fluctuations could be a sign that they’re pursuing other options on the side and only doing what they have to in order to keep you going.

They Won’t Make Solid Plans

The surest way to tell what someone’s priorities are is to look at where they spend your time. In a healthy relationship, you and your partner should be spending time together on a regular basis. Even if you don’t see each other every day, you should be able to count on them to show up for plans because they value that time with you.

When your partner is cushioning you or putting you on the back burner, they may start refusing to make solid plans. The truth is that by the time those plans come around, they don’t know if they’ll have a better offer from someone else. If your partner acts like spending time with you is an option that they can’t commit to, it may be a sign that something is wrong.

They Stand You Up

Even worse than refusing to make solid plans is a partner who straight-up stands you up. You may have plans for them to call, for you to have a date night, or for you to meet up. But at the last minute, they have to work, a family member needs something, a friend called, or they’re just too tired.

As with many of these warning signs, these things can happen every now and again in a relationship. It’s when a pattern starts developing that you should be worried. Getting stood up for a phone call once is one thing; missing three plans with you in a month or standing you up for an important event shows that they have somewhere else they’d rather be.

They’re Not Responsive

When you first got into this relationship, you and your partner probably talked for hours on end and texted every day. They answered your questions, reacted to your stories, and showed you that they cared. But now, you may have the sense that your partner isn’t listening or that they’ve just plain checked out.

Most of the time, your partner should engage with you, respond to your texts and calls, and make you feel heard. It takes less than thirty seconds to send a text message, and no one is so busy that they can’t manage an, “I’m busy, but I’ll call you later,” message. If your partner isn’t responding to you, it may show you that they’re busy talking to someone else.

Your Sex Life Slows Down

Of course, one of the biggest signs of trouble in a relationship is a significant change in your sex life. It’s normal for your sex life to slow down a little as you move out of the honeymoon phase of your relationship. In fact, some studies show that most Americans in happy relationships have sex about once a week.

But while a slight slowdown is normal, a full stop is something to be concerned about. If your partner used to be excited about getting down with you and now they seem indifferent, it’s a sure sign that there’s some sort of problem. They might be experiencing a physical problem that needs to be addressed, they might be working through a personal crisis, or they might be turning their attention elsewhere.

Get Out of Back-Burner Relationships

Back-burner relationships can be lonely, miserable, and deeply painful. You deserve to be with a partner who is excited about being with you, who is committed to continuing to grow your relationship, and who makes you a priority in their life. If they start checking out and you have a bad feeling, trust that intuition and consider moving on to a better relationship.

Use EFT Tapping to Free Yourself of Trauma and Fear

Mystics, scientists, and truth seekers have known for centuries that a deep and mysterious connection exists between our minds and our bodies. Some sages have described this connection as energy flowing through our bodies, connecting our minds to our physical shells and to the wider universe around us. So what happens when the stress and trauma of life interfere with that energy flow?

Disruptions in your body’s energy can have a serious impact on your life, and EFT tapping can be a great way to restore that flow. Read on to learn more about tapping and how you can use it to manage anxiety, stress, depression, and more.

What Is EFT Tapping?

Emotional freedom technique, also known as EFT tapping, is an alternative therapy technique that may be useful for anxiety, PTSD, and other fear-related disorders. This technique was developed in 1995 by Gary Craig, who believed the body has different meridians, or points where energy is more highly focused. He believed that by tapping on these meridians, a person could change their body’s energy.

EFT tapping works on the same theory as acupuncture and acupressure. Instead of pressing on or sticking a pin in this location, however, the practitioner or patient simply taps on that meridian point. During this process, the patient focuses on the thing in their life that they want to change.

Who Can It Help?

In general, EFT tapping is recommended for patients who are dealing with mental disorders. In particular, this treatment is a popular option for people living with chronic anxiety or depression. EFT practitioners say the technique is also useful for people with chronic pain, stress disorders, PTSD, and other fear-related disorders.

It’s important to note that, ideally, EFT tapping should be one part of your overall mental healthcare plan. In particular, if you have thoughts of hurting yourself or someone else, reach out to a professional immediately. EFT tapping will be most effective when used in combination with therapy and/or medication to keep your brain chemistry in balance.

How Does It Work?

EFT tapping focuses on the body’s energy meridians, points around your body where your energy converges. You can see a practitioner for a tapping session, or you can do tapping yourself at home.

Although the tapping is, naturally, a critical part of tapping therapy, much of the technique also revolves around mindfulness. As you’re performing the tapping, it’s important to focus on the issue in your life that you need resolved. This can help to focus the energy change and clear any blockages you may be experiencing.

Identify an Issue to Focus On

When you get ready to begin a tapping session, it’s important to pick one particular issue to focus on. It’s best to get fairly specific with this issue so that you can tackle larger problems in manageable sections. Trying to tackle too much at once could interfere with your focus and make the therapy less effective.

Spend some time meditating before your tapping session, bringing your focus into the body and letting go of all distractions. Begin to direct your attention to the problems you’re facing, and narrow that focus down to one particular issue that’s interfering with your daily life and happiness. Begin to anchor your attention into this issue, drawing it in as the focus of your session.

Rate the Intensity

Once you have your focus set, it’s a good idea to rate the current intensity of the problem in your life. In other words, how serious is the problem, and how much distress and disruption is it causing you at the present moment. This will help you to track if the tapping therapy is working for you or if you need to try different techniques.

As you focus on your specific issue, think about how much this issue impacts you, your daily life, and your happiness. Rate it on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being only mild inconvenience and 10 being debilitating. You can also assign this ranking based on how much the problem has impacted you at other times in your life.

Choose a Mantra

Now that you understand the scope of your problem a little better, it’s time to choose your mantra for the tapping session. This will be a specific reminder phrase you’ll use to reset your focus throughout the session. These words can help to direct the energy change that happens during the session.

Your mantra should be one of acknowledgment and acceptance, recognizing that the problem is present in your life and offering compassion and acceptance to yourself. There should be no judgment – only recognition that this is a problem in your life and that you are still worthy and a divine being of light.

Follow the Tapping Sequence

With your mantra and focus centered in your mind, you’ll be ready to begin the tapping sequence. You’ll need to follow a specific order as you move across the tapping points. During your first few sessions, you may want to consult an EFT tapping chart to make sure you’re hitting the right meridian points.

Tap each point in the sequence about five times with your fingertips. You can tap the points that have twin positions at the same time, or you can just tap one side.

Begin with the tapping point directly in the center of the top of your head, and then move to the beginning of your brows closest to your nose. Move to the bones on the outside corner of your eyes, then to the bone about one inch below your pupils.

Next comes the point between your nose and your upper lip, followed by the point between your lower lip and your chin. Finish with the points just below the inside ends of your collarbones and then those on the sides of the body about four inches below your armpits.

Rate the Intensity Again

Once you’ve finished the tapping sequence, take a few deep breaths, and then rate the intensity of your issue again. In an ideal treatment, you’ll notice that the intensity has gone down from where it was when you began tapping. However, you may notice that it takes a few rounds to see noticeable improvement.

Continue this tapping sequence, repeating your mantra with each point you tap. You may find that after a while, the changes to the intensity of your problem plateau. Once this happens or the intensity reaches zero, you can stop the session and return to it as needed.

Since the start of the pandemic, gardening has experienced a resurgence in popularity. For one thing, having a vegetable garden can be a great way to deal with some of the food shortages we’ve all experienced. But gardening can also have a number of wonderful benefits for your mind and spirit.

If you’ve ever thought about starting a healing garden, there’s no time like the present! Read on to learn how to start a garden and discover what you should grow in your healing garden.

Benefits of Starting a Healing Garden

Before we dive into all the ways you can start growing a healing garden, let’s talk some about the benefits of starting a garden. For one thing, gardening is great for your health. Not only does it burn a lot of calories, but it can also increase your Vitamin D levels, lower your blood pressure, and encourage you to eat healthier.

Gardening can also be an excellent respite for your mind, soul, and spirit. Gardening relieves stress, restores confidence, improves self-esteem, and can even boost your mood. You may also find a wonderful sense of community through gardening as you connect with other people who also love growing their own food and herbs.

In-Ground Gardens

When you get ready to start gardening, the first thing you’ll need to do is to decide what sort of garden you want to grow. You can choose among indoor gardens, in-ground gardens, raised bed gardens, and container gardens. Each has their own benefits and challenges, and which you choose depends a lot on your space.

If you have a large yard that gets plenty of sunshine, you may want to consider digging an in-ground garden. These can be easier to water properly and may be a little less expensive since you don’t have to buy grow pots or soil. However, you’ll have to contend with weeds, manage irrigation appropriately, and rely on the weather to keep your plants healthy.

Raised Bed Gardens

Raised bed gardens can be a great middle ground between in-ground gardens and container gardens. In this system, you build beds that are a few inches high on top of your yard; some people even choose to build large rectangular beds that sit on legs so they’re accessible from standing height. You fill these with soil and plant your garden there, rather than directly in the soil.

Raised beds can be a great option if you have plenty of space, but not very good soil. These beds generally don’t have as many weeds, and you may find that they produce more abundant harvests since roots can grow in soft soil. However, they do require some woodworking expertise and they do mean buying a large amount of dirt.

Container Gardens

Container gardens are a fantastic option for people who are short on space or appropriate growing weather. As the name suggests, a container garden is grown in, well, a container. This usually involves a grow bag, a large pot, or some other portable vessel that’s large enough to give your plant room to grow.

A container garden is the perfect option if your yard doesn’t get a lot of sun or if you don’t have enough space to set up a permanent garden. You can move your containers around and even bring them inside during dangerous weather. However, these gardens can be relatively expensive and may be a little harder to water appropriately.

Pick Your Spot

If you plan to start an in-ground or raised bedgarden, the first thing you need to do is to find a good patch of land to do it. If you’re planning to grow an in-ground garden, look for a space that will provide good drainage, quality soil, and plenty of room for plants to spread out. You should avoid growing on steep hills or anywhere where water gathers in your yard.

Begin by keeping an eye on how much sun each spot in your yard gets. You can time this manually or set out a sensor that will track how much sunlight falls on a specific spot in an average day. Look for a spot that gets at least eight hours of sun a day, and try to determine which areas get six hours and four hours.

Test Your Soil

Once you’ve picked your garden spot, you’ll need to check the quality of the soil there. You need dirt that is a good mixture of soil types and that offers all the nutrients your plants will need. It’s a good idea to take a sample of your soil and send it to your local agricultural extension for testing.

You can also run a test at home to see what types of soil you have and whether you need to mix in other types. Get a cup or so of soil and place it in a large glass jar. Fill the jar with water and a squirt of dish detergent and shake it for about two minutes.

Set the jar in a window for a few days and allow the mixture to settle back out. The soil will separate into layers based on the density of each component, and you’ll be able to see how much sand, loam, and so on you have in your soil.

Dig In

Now that you know where your garden is going and what your soil is like, it’s time to break out the shovels! If you’re doing an in-ground garden, start by marking out the boundaries of your garden. Put up any fences or barriers you plan to use, and start turning over the soil.

It’s a good idea to dig down about a foot to loosen the soil and get it well oxygenated. Based on your soil tests, decide what amendments you need (compost, nitrogen, calcium, manure, organic fertilizer, etc.) and mix those into your freshly turned soil. Make sure you remove as many weeds and grass as possible and break up any large clods of dirt.

If you’re planning a raised bed or container garden, now will be the time to fill your garden with dirt. You may be able to buy soil in bulk from your local nursery or garden center. Make sure you fill the containers all the way to the top, and consider laying in a layer of rocks at the bottom of the beds or containers to improve drainage.

Research Planting Times

With your garden prepped, you’re almost ready to start putting plants in the ground. But first, you need to do a little more homework – this time about when to plant different things. Your local agricultural extension, co-op, or gardening club can all be good resources for this, as can online almanacs and seed packets.

Different plants want to go in the ground at different temperatures and will be ready to harvest at different times. Often, planting recommendations will be based on your hardiness zone or a certain number of days after the last frost. You can look up your hardiness zone and your average last frost date online.

Gather Your Equipment

Starting an indoor garden may not involve as much soil work as an outdoor garden, but you may need more equipment. Depending on how much sun you get in your home, it may be a good idea to get some grow lights. These lights emit UV rays that mimic the sunshine and are excellent for nourishing indoor plants.

You’ll also need to get containers that give your plants enough room to grow and expand. You may choose to use large pots or grow bags, just like you would with an outdoor container garden. You can also get large trays or troughs, provided they give your plants’ roots enough space to grow.

Decide on a Gardening Style

You’ll need to decide whether you want to do a soil-based garden or grow your plants hydroponically. Hydroponic gardens skip the soil and grow plants directly in water. This can be a great way to give your plants the nutrients they need without having to deal with huge (and expensive) bags of potting soil.

Hydroponic gardens can be grown indoors or outdoors, depending on your light availability. These healing gardens may require a little more setup and equipment, but they require much less maintenance than a traditional soil garden. However, they can be more prone to diseases, especially if you allow algae to grow in your water.

What Is Hydroponics?

So how does hydroponics work, and should you consider it when you’re planning your home garden? In general, plants need a few things to grow and thrive: sunlight, water, nutrients, and oxygen. While traditional healing gardens rely on soil to provide the latter two things, hydroponics add these into water.

Hydroponic gardens grow plants directly in a nutrient-rich water bath that uses an air pump to infuse oxygen into the mixture. Your plants can get everything they need from this water (except sunlight, of course), no soil needed. But it is very important to make sure you get your nutrient mixture right and provide plenty of oxygen to your plants when you’re growing hydroponically.

DIY Hydroponics

There are a number of hydroponic systems you can buy online, but these can get somewhat expensive. Instead, you may want to build your own hydroponics system to nourish your plants. You’ll need to start with a deep, opaque storage container or large bucket, an air pump, and proper nutrients.

Drill a series of holes into the lid of your container for your plants to sit in, and then assemble your air pump outside of the container. Fill your reservoir with water and add hydroponic nutrients according to the directions on the container. Place the air stone of your pump in the reservoir, turn on the pump, close the lid, and get ready to add plants!

Simplest Vegetables to Grow Indoors

When you’re picking vegetables to grow indoors, you want to look for plants that are more shade-tolerant. Leafy greens can be a great option for this, since their large, broad leaves tend to absorb every little bit of light. Kale, leaf lettuce, spinach, and arugula are all great options for beginning gardeners.

Root vegetables can also do well in shadier environments. Beets, carrots, and radishes are all good choice for indoor garden vegetables, and you might even be able to grow some potatoes! You can grow cherry tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers, but these plants will likely require grow lights, as they need plenty of sunlight.

Simplest Herbs to Grow Indoors

There are a number of different herbs that can thrive in your indoor herb garden. In general, you’re going to want to stick to some of the leafier herbs, since they can handle a bit more shade. Basil, sage, mint, and parsley are all good options for an indoor herb garden.

Chives, oregano, and thyme are also fantastic options when you’re planning your indoor herb garden. All of these herbs add plenty of flavor to food and thrive in an indoor environment. You’ll want to avoid rosemary, bay leaves, and cilantro, as these can be a little more finicky indoors.

Simplest Vegetables to Grow Outdoors

When it comes to planting a garden outdoors, what you grow will depend a lot on where you live. If you live somewhere very cold, warm-weather crops like squash and melons may not do as well. Likewise, if you live in a warmer climate, you may have a hard time getting your broccoli and lettuce to thrive.

In general, there are a few vegetables that are easy to grow and safe bets for beginning gardeners. Lettuce, green beans, peas, and radishes are all good starter vegetables, as are carrots, cucumbers, kale, Swiss chard, beets, and zucchini. Make sure to check your local agricultural center for recommended planting and sowing dates.

Simplest Herbs to Grow Outdoors

Much like vegetables, there are some herbs that will grow better in warm climates and others that will thrive in cold weather. Looking up hardiness zone recommendations for the herbs you want to grow is a good idea if you’re planning an outdoor herb garden. But there are a few tried-and-true herbs that should be able to thrive anywhere.

Sage, parsley, and oregano are all good options for the beginning herb gardener, especially since oregano comes back every spring. Mint is a famously aggressive plant, and thyme does well even in dry soil. Dill, chives, cilantro, lemongrass, basil, bay laurel, and tarragon are all simple to grow and a great choice for beginning herb gardeners.

Nutritious Foods to Grow

It should come as no surprise that many of the most nutritious foods you can grow are leafy greens. Kale, spinach, Swiss chard, red cabbage, kohlrabi, and collard greens are all packed with vitamins and other nutrients to fuel your body. This can damage multiple organ systems and may even result in death, especially in young babies.

Lactoferrin can help to fight infections due to bacteria, viruses, and even fungi. Because it’s a natural substance, it can be relatively safe to give newborns, as long as it’s administered in the right doses. Giving lactoferrin to premature babies might help to prevent serious blood infections, but it does not seem to prevent death among these babies.

Managing Acne

On a much lighter note, some people found that taking lactoferrin helped to improve their acne. Oftentimes, acne is the result of small infections in the skin, although there can be a number of factors that contribute to these breakouts. Lactoferrin’s antibacterial properties make it a reasonable treatment option for acne.

Studies on this use of lactoferrin are limited, and more research is needed. But one 2010 study showed that patients who took lactoferrin had fewer acne lesions than people who took a placebo. If you’re struggling with acne, talk to your doctor about if lactoferrin can be a good part of your treatment plan.

Preventing Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a serious condition impacting more than 44 million Americans and more than half of those over the age of 50. Osteoporosis causes your bones to weaken and become brittle as calcium levels decrease over time. It can cause even minor falls to be serious threats, as your risk of broken bones goes up significantly.

Because lactoferrin is a milk protein, scientists are hopeful that it could be effective in preventing osteoporosis. Studies on this potential benefit are still in the early stages, and there are no definite answers yet. But the results are promising, and we can hope to see more positive results in the coming years.

Possible Side Effects

As with any medication or supplement, taking lactoferrin can have some side effects, especially depending on the dose you take. In general, the amount of lactoferrin found in food is considered safe. However, if you’re taking lactoferrin as a supplement, overdosing can lead to some unpleasant side effects.

Taking too high a dose of lactoferrin can cause fatigue and constipation, as well as a loss of appetite. Some patients report developing a skin rash, and others experience chills. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking lactoferrin immediately, and call your doctor.

Can Lactoferrin Treat COVID?

So now we get to the big question on everyone’s minds: can lactoferrin treat COVID-19? COVID is an infection caused by a virus, and we know lactoferrin can help to fight viral infections. So it would make sense that lactoferrin could be an important part of treating this terrifying disease, right?

There have been some preliminary studies that have showed promising results for lactoferrin. Doctors know that lactoferrin can fight some coronaviruses in test tube studies, but they don’t know how effective it is in the human body. We need to do more research before we’ll know how effective this really is as a treatment option for COVID-19.

Talk to Your Doctor

If you’ve been diagnosed with COVID-19 or you think you may have it, do not try to treat it at home on your own. Your first step should be to test for the virus, either with an at-home test or at a local testing site. If your test is positive, you and anyone you’ve been in contact with during the last two weeks should immediately quarantine.

Talk to your doctor about the best option for managing COVID-19 symptoms as long as you’re well enough to stay home. Ask if lactoferrin is a good treatment option and if you should take it as a potential preventative measure. And if your condition gets serious, go to the hospital immediately, as you may need more intensive support.

At this time, the single most effective way to prevent COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. Vaccines are safe, free, and effective, and they protect both you and everyone around you. You should also wear a mask in all public areas and limit your exposure to the virus as much as possible.

How to Use Lactoferrin

In general, you should not plan to take lactoferrin (except for what you get through food) for more than twelve weeks in a row. Most adults take doses between 100 and 400 mg by mouth every day. You can also find some topical products that contain lactoferrin.

You can also find lactoferrin in a number of different foods, beginning with animal milk. In particular, cow’s milk has a relatively high level of lactoferrin. If you’re lactose intolerant or vegan, you might be able to find lactoferrin supplements that are made with rice protein instead of animal protein.

The World of Quantum Computers and Time Crystals

If you’re dialed into the tech world, you may have heard some recent buzz about time crystals. A team of scientists from Stanford, Google, and some of the best physics laboratories in the world recently announced that they were able to use a quantum computer to make a time crystal. But what is a time crystal, and what are quantum computers?

Time crystals represent some fantastic potential for the future of both quantum computing and physics. Read on to learn more about time crystals, quantum computing, and what this means for our understanding of our world.

What Are Quantum Computers?

Quantum computers use a new approach to computing that employ the laws of quantum physics to solve problems. Quantum entanglement theory says that certain particles can become linked in irrevocable ways. No matter how far apart in the universe those particles get, they are still intrinsically connected to one another.

Quantum computers take advantage of this entanglement theory to create complex networks of qubits, which store information much the same way that bits in a normal computer do. These networks allow programmers to solve problems much more efficiently than they could with normal computers. In fact, a quantum computer can solve a problem that would take a computer a week in about a second.

How Standard Computers Work

Standard computing works off a two-option system called binary. In standard computing, something can be off or on, an answer can be yes or no, a glass can be full or not full. This system is expressed through binary, a system of ones and zeros that indicates whether the switch in question is on or off.

In essence, all computers operate through a series of yes/no questions called logic gates that connect together to form complex strings of thought. Think of this as the world’s biggest, most complex decision tree. Each answer leads you down a different branch of the tree to get to your eventual solution.

The Problems of Normal Computing

Imagine you’re sitting in your car with no map or GPS trying to figure out the best way to drive from Wedderburn, Oregon, to Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina. You have to begin by deciding if you should turn left or right at the end of the street, and then left or right off of the next street, and so on. You might find your way to Murrell’s Inlet, but finding the best route using this method would take you more time than you have left in the rest of your life.

This is effectively the problem quantum computing resolves. Normal computing requires problems to be solved via those logic gates we discussed, which means each route has to be explored one question at a time. Even with computers that can perform billions of operations per second, solving complex problems could take tens of thousands of years.

How Quantum Computing Resolves These Problems

Quantum computing is a whole new approach to computing that sidesteps the tedium of these traditional logic gates. Quantum computing allows you to consider all possible options for a problem at one time, rather than examining each one decision at a time. This allows you to arrive at solutions much faster and more efficiently than with traditional computing.

To go back to our cross-country navigation example, quantum computing is the equivalent of handing you a GPS to help with your route planning. Now, rather than deciding the best route by driving all possible routes, you can look at all the options at one time. From there, it’s much quicker to narrow down the most direct route from Oregon to South Carolina and even determine which ones will include the most Cracker Barrel stops along the way.

What Are Time Crystals?

Now that we know a little more about quantum computers, let’s talk some about time crystals. Far from being a sparkly gemstone that you can hold in your hand, time crystals are a new state of matter. Until very recently, they’ve been a hypothetical concept, impossible to actually design and create.

Crystals are defined by their structure; the molecules that make up a crystal are organized into specific patterns that repeat across space. This is what gives these gemstones their unique shape and some of the remarkable properties we value them for. In fact, part of the reason we use quartz crystals in our watches is because of the way their molecular structure resonates.

Time crystals have particles that are structured in similarly repeating ways. The difference is that these structures don’t repeat across space to form a physical object – they repeat across time. For all intents and purposes, a time crystal is a perpetual motion machine (with a few minor caveats).

The simplest example of a time crystal that you’ve seen in your day-to-day life is the pendulum of a clock. This pendulum swings back and forth in an established pattern, always returning to the same places in the same time. The only thing that differentiates this from a true time crystal is that there has to be a source of power driving that pendulum; time crystals use no external power.

A New State of Matter

We mentioned that time crystals are a new state of matter, much the same as solids, liquids, and gases. The difference is that, rather than dealing with how particles are organized in space, this state of matter deals with how they’re organized through time. The repeating pattern is based in movement, not molecular structure.

Time crystals do differ from perpetual motion machines in a few aspects. For one thing, perpetual motion machines produce work from no energy, while time crystals don’t produce any physical work. And time crystals aren’t actually perpetual; even the best time crystal that we can build right now will eventually fall prey to outside influences and the pattern will decay.

Why Quantum Computers Can “Create” Time Crystals

So how can quantum computers create time crystals and why have standard computers not been able to accomplish this feat? In simplest terms, quantum computers can be much more accurate and efficient than standard computers can. Their logic gates don’t have to be managed one at a time, and they can be calibrated much more precisely.

As you might imagine, creating a material so perfectly structured that it can continue moving in its established patterns ad infinitum is tremendously complex. Only the birds-eye-view computing ability of quantum computers are able to perform the necessary calculations quickly enough.

New Research Avenues

The invention of time crystals has a number of amazing implications, although most of us will never see their impact. Rather, this discovery opens up new avenues of research for experts in quantum computing and condensed matter physics. The most significant part of this discovery for us is knowing that time may, in fact, be just another element of our physical world, as easily manipulable as space, given the right tools.
