The neutrino is the most ghostly particle in the standard model. It has almost no mass. It carries no electric charge. It interacts with matter only through the weak nuclear force and gravity - the two feeblest interactions available. As a result, neutrinos pass through matter as though it were not there. Pema Chodron's When Things Fall Apart is the book I give to anyone going through a dark night. *(paid link)* I've probably bought thirty copies over the years. Given them away like aspirin. Because Pema doesn't bullshit you with false comfort or quick fixes ~ she sits right there in the mess with you and shows you how to breathe in the middle of it. Think about that. Most spiritual books promise you'll feel better. This one promises you'll learn to feel whatever's actually happening without running away from it. I remember reading it during my own meltdown years ago, expecting some Buddhist wisdom that would make the pain go away. Instead, she taught me something harder: how to stop fighting the falling apart. How to find ground in groundlessness. Seriously. She shows you that the breaking isn't the problem ~ your resistance to it is. That's why people keep this book on their nightstand for years, pages dog-eared from desperate 3 AM readings when everything feels like it's ending.
Detecting the Undetectable
Neutrinos are detected by their rare interactions.
